  1. Illinois State last year. A close second would be Sam Houston State in 2011.
  2. 1.) Georgia Southern no longer runs the triple option. 2.) Georgia Tech is rarely relevant and has never won a national championship. 3.) The last time the military schools were effective at winning national championships with that offense, we were just finishing winning a war against Germany. There is a reason national championship teams no longer use it. Defenses are far faster and athletic than before and can effectively manage it. When teams use that offense and fall behind, it hard to come from behind. You have to be extremely deep and athletic at every position on the field in order to be effective with it.
  3. Babich left and has been in the NFL for close to 15 years and is currently a D coordinator. Rocky left and coached a team called Northeastern who dropped football and has never coached higher than high school again. Babich was not fired, resigned. Rocky was fired. Babich brought the west coast offense and Tampa 2 defense to Fargo. Rocky kept trying to run the veer after it was clear it wasn't the offense of the future. Babich made one mistake in trying to be his own offensive coordinator for the season and it backfired. He was not a bad coach.
  4. If his team had not had horribly bad luck to significant players, you could be talking about a national title in 2000 and 2001. His 2002 season was bad but look at the players that were apart of the recruiting classes around then or young players in 2002. Steve Walker, Craig Dahl, Kyle Steffes, Joe Mays. All guys who would go on to be Bison legends and have two extremely successful seasons. Both inherited a ton of Babich talent. I guess I do feel fortunate to be a fan of a program where mediocrity isn't tollerated. Craig Bohl is extremely lucky to have kept his job after 2009.
  5. Seriously was not trying to be a smart ass. If you are going to change nicknanes, there is not a better time to do it than when your program is down.
  6. Oh that is definitely a fact. NDSU fans helped tremendously in ending that racist and abusive nickname. Look on the bright side. Once Bubba is coach of Roughrider Football, he will be able to sell a new football brand and distance themselves from the stigma that the UND Sioux/No names are a bad team.
  7. You mention 2001 around Darrell and you better find the guy a box of Kleenex and a private room. Yep you got me there. UND had a brief period of 3 out of 4 years when they had more sucess, but I would not go on to say Dominate. NDSU was ranked #1 for a good period of 2000 and part of 2001 and very well would have a national championship in 2000 had they not closed the season with a 3rd string QB. Tough to say how 2001 would have turned out if injuries had not happened with Gordon. 2002 UND clearly had a better team. 2003 IMO was a joke. I still struggle to see how an 8-3 Bison team who had beat the #3 team in the FCS did not make the playoffs. UND had a better team that year, but I wouldn't go on to say they were dominate. They beat NDSU head and got the opportunity to play in the playoffs but there was not a more impressive win in D2 that year than NDSU beating Montana. That win did a lot more for the future success of NDSU football than UND making it to the D2 title game. I still think Babich got the shaft. He had one bad season in 2002 and got the boot. Guy was a good coach.
  8. When Darrell says things like that it isn't troll baiting. That is the way the guy's brain works. Good example of Darrell's way of thinking. "NDSU dominated the 1980's in football but UND dominated the 1990's" 1980's NDSU- 4 national titles, 2 runner ups, 7 conference championships and won the nickel 9 out of 10 times. UND- Zero national championships or runner ups, zero conference championships, won the nickel 1 out of 10 times. Clearly dominated by NDSU 1990's NDSU- 1 national championship, 4 conference championships and won the nickel 5 out of 10 times UND- Zero national championships or appearances, 4 conference championships and won the nickel 5 out of 10 times. Essentially even....dominated by UND in Darrell's mind
  9. A two star recruit for any FCS team is huge. He verballed rather early but had FBS interest later on and the thought was he would be gone. He is from Florida and had an offer from Furman, which is located significantly closer to Orlando Florida than Fargo ND and has a good program. Just curious but how many 2 star recruits has UND signed recently? I know stars don't always matter, but they are usually a sign of talent. UND hasn't been exactly killing it recuiting wise in recent years.
  10. To be fair to Klieman, it is going to be significantly more difficult for him to do much better than 14-1 and winning the national championship. It would be hard for Bubba to do much worse than 5-7. Considering how hard it is to win a national championship and win 14 games, I would bet Bubba improves on 5 wins before I would bet on Klieman winning 14 games and a national title in 2015.
  11. Defending the rush against a ball control west coast style power team is significantly different than defending it against a spread offense.
  12. Not trying to be an asshole when I say this, but does anyone in the Big Sky try to pound the rock in a pro style offense like NDSU, other than what UND is now trying to do? Last year that front 7 faced one team that operated an offense similar to NDSU, Missouri State, and gave up 5.1 YPC and 235 total yards on the ground. Pretty easy to say your front 7 has strengths of shutting down the run when they didn't play anyone known for being an effective running team. NDSU had a great defense last year and everyone assumed they would shut Coastal down. That defense had not seen a spread team like them and were touched.
  13. Lol ya...for being a safety school, if that is what you want to call it, I was pretty well prepared for my career and feel like my education was as good as that of which my peers received. When you can't debate football in a football thread, you guys usually throw out something hockey or your Ivy League education. If somehow you think your UND degree hold more merit in this world than my NDSU degree, you are even more delusional than Bison fans who think they can beat Alabama.
  14. Never said that. Did meet with the chair of the department and another professor and that was the impression I got.
  15. Meh I don't know just saying every time I have been to GF it smelles horribly. I also thought the city was boring and it would have been another hour further from pheasant hunting and fishing. I also liked the professors at NDSU better. They were more approachable and seemed excited to teach as opposed to excited to write a paper to be published. Also at that time, I felt there was more of an energy at NDSU and the move to D1 really was a part of it. The men's bball team was successful and coming off season that included knocking off #13 Wisconsin and the football team was coming off a 10-1 season where they knocked off FBS Ball State and nearly upset Minnesota. All in all I don't hate UND. I thought the campus was nice and they provide a good education.
  16. I don't hate UND at all. Good university. I actually came really close to attending UND. The thought of living in GF though repulsed me. That town stinks, literally, from all the beet plants.
  17. Well Christ we all know you guys view a close loss right up there with a win. Your all time FBS record is 5 losses and 3 toe to toe moral victories isn't it? I thought it was kind of funny how a few of you were making comparisons between a double digit NDSU victory over UM and a 3 point UND loss to UM. In all honesty though if NDSU were to get beat, I think the general concensus would be that it is the most embarrassing loss in the D1 era. I would hope that it would then correspondendly result in a fire being lit in the players and coaching staff and a subsequent run to another national championship. The 2013 loss by the Bison men's bbal team to UND was completely embarrassing at the time , but that was fast erased with a conference championship and trip to the big dance and win over Oklahoma. I know you guys would be happy with the win over NDSU because after all, that is all that counts with you guys, but we have bigger goals in mind.
  18. Boom! Darrell throws out a 90's reference. Conversation is being had on why Muss era is in the past and Bubba is moving the ship forward. Saw a few 12>1 references. Personal attacks are starting. Following same path as every other thread created!
  19. I think Bubba is doing a good job. He took a horrible Muss team and made them competitive. I think going forward he has the team going in the right direction. The biggest obstacle he has is UND recruiting in a geographic area in which they do not compete in, NDSU's success in recent years, and an athletic program focussed on hockey, rightfully so. Playing and competing well against NDSU is an opportunity to jump start the program. If UND beats NDSU, it will be their biggest win in the D1 era and will help with recruiting. As far as the 2015 game is concerned, NDSU will likely win by a fairly healthy margin. I expect the 2019 game to be more competitive is Bubba is the coach you think he will be.
  20. If Bubba has or will pull quotes from Sioux Sports from some random NDSU fans to use as his player motivational tool, I seriously doubt his ability to put a team on his field that will beat NDSU in 2015 and think you guys will be fast looking for a new captain in charge of UND Roughrider football. I can assure you of two things. 1.) Comptent coaches never read this !@#$ or care what opposing fans on message forums think. 2.) Good football players have 100 other things to motivate them to play before quotes from message forums.
  21. Yes I get that to a degree. NDSU has several poor offensive performances last year. Weber State comes to mind. Defense still only gave up 7 points. That is what I call good. This all boils down to 2015 matchup. I think UND will have a good defense based on last year's average performance and continued player growth. With that being said, I think NDSU returns an offense that will be able to put a good amount points on UND's defense. I think NDSU will have an average defense that will not have a huge amount of problems containing a UND offense that doesn't return a lot of talent.
  22. I just don't generally call the 35th ranked defense who were embarrassed several times as being good. I think they had a few good performances last year but overall wouldn't call them good.
  23. Right I get it. They probably will be better. Call it what you would like, but good defenses are generally ranked higher than 35th in the FCS. They closed out the season giving up 33 points to freaking Northern Colorado. They were an average at best defense last year. When I think of the term good coupled with the word defense, I think of teams like 2000 Baltimore Ravens, 2006 Chicago Bears etc. Defenses that largely no matter how bad the offense was, largely !@#$ the opponent down. UND's defense was steamrolled last year against some very poor offenses. They had one good game against a beat up Montana team, who by the way didn't have a great offense last year. If anything, the best performance they had was against Montana State but they followed that up with several poor performances.
  24. Ya I get the two safeties but you act like NDSU has nothing to replace them. Dempsey is a good player and has started and Board was a gigantic recruit who rotated in last year flawlessly and was their best player on special teams. They could turn out to suck, but I don't think that will be the case. Deluca started the last 5 games for NDSU and during that stretch he was their leading tackler and leader in interceptions. When he was on the field last year, the second best Bison defensive player to Emanuel. I guess I don't really view him as being a new starter like you do.
