  1. I'd rather serve time in a Soviet prison-camp as opposed to enroll in a dance class.

It would be interesting to know though who is in better shape? The 13 year old girl in dance or the 13 year old boy in hockey?
  2. I've been a rabid college hockey fan since '87 and I do not miss the old WCHA one bit. The WCHA got watered down with when it went to 12 teams. Omaha, Bemidji, Anchorage, etc. Why would I ever miss playing those schools? There is one program I miss playing and that's UND.

Now we have much more room for fun non conference series against programs like Notre Dame and BC. We still kept our in-state rivals on our schedule. We're on national TV more. As a Gopher fan I'm not sure what's not to like.

I would not call the Big10 network a national network. Not when it is only available on a sport packages for extra money. They had to create the network since they got so little coverage to start with.
  3. This is from Dobson High in Mesa and what is expected from players. "The Dobson Baseball Program requires a year round commitment by both players and coaches. A student-athlete aspiring to be a member of Mustang Baseball will enroll in 6th hour AA Baseball (Tykoski) for both the Fall and Spring Semesters of his freshman year. During that time, the student-athlete will be instructed in baseball fundamentals and strategies with the intent to refine these skills and perform them in competitive play. Off season conditioning such as weight training, speed and agility training, and physical and mental endurance are held after school. Information will also be given for participation in Fall League Baseball". (more) http://www.mpsaz.org/dobson/staff/dmtykoski/aa_baseball/outline/ This would probably get a Shanley coach fired. This is the schools website.

  4. There are a couple kinds of parents:

    1. Parents that would see this text and tell their kid they better make sure they start going to the open gym activities if they want to get better and be a leader on the team.

    2. Parents that would see this text and run to the school bitching, saying the coach is being mean and needs to be fired.

The world could use a lot more of #1 type parents.

Though there seems to be more number 2 parents the last 20 years. It really seemed to have changed as the costs went up with more private teams and leagues.
  5. The pussification of America continues.

Joel is going to be on WDAY radio this afternoon and judging by the comments and support he is getting on his Facebook page and other people commenting about the story on their own FB pages I would say Shanley is going to get run through the ringer on this and rightfully so.

The intersting thing will be the backlash this parent may feel in regards to his business dealings and interactions. I don't know him that well but know who he is, but I know quite a few people who run in his circle who may not be aware at this point that he is the one behind this mess as many of these same people also know Joel and have made some pretty disparaging comments regarding how this even happened in the first place and towards the person who put this in motion and at this point I don't think many know who caused this to happen.

That is one long sentence. Besides that I do not even closely see any problem with the text. You would think parents would be happy with a guy like this coaching your kids. Seems to be the parent who whined kid has not been attending the open gym. Now he is worried that his kid won't be playing. Why not tell your kid to hit the gym? Problem solved.
  6. They're coming to Bangor in July as well, and I definitely plan to attend. Also includes Don Felder (from the Eagles, for you youngin's out there :p )

Juke Box Hero is one of my favorite songs. And, if I remember correctly, "Waiting for a girl like you" was written in like 16 minutes.

    Sounds like it.
  7. I forgot to post this last week:

Bloomington Kennedy HS boys defeated Jefferson last week 2-1...their first victory over their cross-town rival in FOURTEEN YEARS!

The king is dead! The king is dead!

How the world changes. Kennedy had a couple of players in the mid 80's that were good. Can you remember who they were? I keep thinking one was a goalie.
  8. July 17th. The down-side is Target Center, but I'll take what I can get.

I've seen Styx five times since 2006...and have yet to be disappointed in their show.

MN State Fair (2 times), Target Center, St Paul's Midway Stadium, and Treasure Island.

MM your musical taste make me question your sanity.
  9. I can't believe Minnesota has only lost 2 games to this point. Like others have said though, they're not a dominant team and shouldn't be overly feared by many. The one thing that may help them is having been #1 most of the season they've been getting what is more than likely the best effort of every team they play against. They're a very young team, so mistakes will happen. The offense is actually the concerning part of the team to me. The defense has its own share of problems some times, but what team doesn't?

Like SiouxForce said, they haven't been a very strong puck possession team this year, which can really bite you in the butt.

Has any team in the country really been playing that great this year?
  10. Committed in November. D man from Flin Flon bombers

Flin Flon's website has him coming in 2016. That has to be a misprint since he is already 20 years old, just turned 2 weeks ago. That would make him 22 when he comes in.
  11. 740 The Fan and 101.9 are both owned by the same company that owns KFGO.

While not unheard of, it would seem unlikely that they'd both ever end up on the same Fargo station. If they did, it would have to be KFGO because they are the only one that has enough stations. But I doubt the FU flagship would ever also be a UND affiliate. In Bismarck, Clear Channel carries both on its family of stations, but again, they are an affiliate to both networks.

It will be interesting to see how hard WDAY goes after NDSU rights when their deal with KFGO is up. Forum Comm treats radio like a red-headed stepchild, for some unknown reason. But they had the TV and Radio rights to NDSU for like 60 years. It was a big loss for them. Forum Comm recently got the TV rights to ND high school athletics, and they've been putting more emphasis on broadcasting live local sports recently than ever before.

1100 The Flag would be the only 3rd option. They have a huge daytime signal, but it is crappy at night, and they are not as well known. I'm sure Hennen would love to have Sioux sports on his station though.

Hennen does not have the money to bid on it. He also does not have a great track record with UND from working with Dave Norman.
