  1. toews, duncan, porter (porter will be asked to provide more scoring than he did last year)

oshie, kozek, forney (koz will be an animal this year)

kaip, fabian, watkins (grind line that will score)

bishop, vandevelde, zajac (bishop will probably be our fastest player paired with 2 guys with a nose for the puck)

lee, chorney (look for lee to log Carle like hours on the ice an produce dbl digit goals and 50 points)

finley, jones (why break them up now)

radke, bina/genoway (look for radke to become more of an enforcer)

PP is obvious (oshie, toews, duncan, lee, chorney)

  2. my guess is that if toews has been waiting to reply this long that he will stay. plus UND doesnt have a forward that could take his place as far as i know...because of trupp's injury. without toews the forward lineup would be one too shallow as far as i know. i just feel that he has probably told the coaches what he is "actually" is planning on. if that is the case then if he was leaving i think they would have picked up another recruit, but i dont know.

I fished with one of Trupp's HS coaches in AK last week and he told me he's playing in an elite summer league in Anchorage (with the likes of Matt Carle). Evidently he needs alot of weight training before he'll be able to handle the WCHA. He didn't expect him to come in this year even if Toews signs.

  3. Sorry, can't agree with you on that. At the beginning of the season, I didn't like the idea of him being selected as team captain. However, he definitely showed leadership skills this year and changed my opinion of that. He didn't play any worse than anyone else. Greene took a terrible call in last years final, but I didn't look down on him either. Matt's done a wonderful job this year, and where I do see him leaving the team, I really would like to see him back for his senior year.

what are you? retarded? What game did you watch, women's bastketball? Sterling has it right. Go pro Smaby.....

  4. The way Stafford was limping coming out of the press box would be tough to fake and it looks serious enough. He and Fabian walked right past my seats and he was grimacing with every step. He's no Paul Crewe and anyone suggesting he's faking it is retarded. Hope he is back for the regionals. Go SIOUX!

  5. Heck, I'll take another fluke this year. Stranger things have happened. Remember DU 2 yrs ago didn't even make the final five and stole #8 from us.

All of Saturday night's goals were highlight reels. The defense still scares me a bit but if we maintain the same chemistry we had against UMD, we have a really good chance of getting 2 or more points in Denver which we desperately need.

Personally, I'm hoping for a #4 seed in the NCAAs forcing Mn out east. If we get in, I like our chances to get to Milwaukee. But if Mn is in the Ralph for the regional, I wouldn't give us much of a chance.

  6. I just want to see us start winning games consistently for a stretch and not worry about what a computer is going to do to us. But if we have to rely on backing into the tournament based on factors outside our control, I'll take it.

Anyone concerned that if we lose our nickname appeal, this could be our last chance to host a regional? And if so, it would be absolutely horrible if we didn't make the big dance.

  7. IMO. The most recent Sioux player that should have won the Hobey was Jason Blake (I believe Krog from NH won it that year. Definitly not as complete a player as Blake), then Panzer second. Miller was tough to beat that year.

There's no one on this year's team worthy of being even considered as a finalist. Stafford could have a shot next year if he returns and plays more consistently. Oshie in 2 years.

This year my pick is Matt Carle.

  8. the bottom line is wins and losses

    jordan parise 13-6-1 GAA 2.34 Save%.928

    phil lamoureux 5-7-0 GAA 2.62 save %.910

its unfortunate that phil doesn't get more goals scored for him, but bottom line i want a goalie who will put a W in the win column for me and right now that is jordan, see above stats for proof.

Maybe we should go with Walski then.......

    Goaltending is not our problem

  9. I tend to agree but it could be a combination of things. Lately, the majority of the Sioux's powerplays have had (at best) one defenseman on the ice. Usually it's Chorney which does influence shot counts. Perhaps our supposed offensive defensemen are in the coach's doghouse, or due to the importance of the last few games, they simply want their 5 best offensive players on the ice to get goals. (Seems like desperation to me) In any case, its clear that the focus is not to get the defense more involved in the offense which does concern me but what are you going to do? Our offensive defensemen are simply not getting it done and IMO, it centers primarily on Brian Lee. Big burden for such a young kid and I think its had an impact on his confidence. He needs to focus on his foot speed, develop a hard slapshot, and improve his ability to hold the offensive zone while making crisp passes. Hopefully we'll be able to work this out vesus our weaker opponents at home the rest of the season. I sure like having Oshie, Zajac, Spirko, Stafford, and Toews out there at the same time because its fun to watch, but probably not healthy long term.

  10. Milwaukee? Can't get to the frozen 4 without getting into the tournament for God's sake. And from the looks of it, we'll need alot of help. Our PWR could go down even if we sweep teams like Duluth and Tech. Losing to Denver will hurt too. We'll probably need to win 5 of our remaining 6 league games and face a TUC team in the 1st round of the WCHA playoffs and win a game at the Final Five to get in. This weekend will be interesting with CC going to SCSU, Providence @ BC, UNO @ No Mich, Mich St @ Ohio St, Ferris @ ND, and Princeton @ Harvard. If the right teams lose, we can move up by not playing. It sickens me that we need to rely on scenarios to get in. However, once we get in, I do think we have a chance to make it to Milwaukee.

  11. TJ brings it every night and every shift! Too bad that grit and determination hasn't been contagious. WCHA rookie of the year to this point IMO.

As far as our chances to get into the NC$$ tournament, I'm not that optomistic. Although I've yet to sell my West Regional ticket package to my Gopher friends. I bought a lottery ticket today and the odds of winning may be better than a full road sweep in the state of Colorado (1:146,107,962) So "I'm telling you there's a chance".

We may well have to win the final five.

  12. Nice sarcasm, but you're conveniently ignoring a few facts. SCSU tied Wisconsin and played them tough when the Badgers were flying high. They've defeated Minnesota and Denver. The Huskies also beat and tied Colgate, the team currently leading the ECAC.

I hate getting swept at home as much as anyone, but SCSU isn't a bad team.

Sorry PCM, I couldn't resist and yes, I did conveniently ignore a few facts. But my point wasn't that SCSU was a bad team, but rather that other average and high caliber teams have been able to score more than 1 goal against them. We certainly should have been able to as well (certainly in our own building) but "our effort was good enough". BG played great but early on he was giving up a lot of rebounds that we didn't take advantage of. My biggest problem is that in nearly every post game interview after a loss the coach speaks to a lack of effort which IMHO rests mostly on his shoulders. Saturday night Hackstol contributes the goal to a lucky bounce! 18 seconds into the OT of a must win game and its a lucky bounce? please... they never should have had that chance. Give them credit, they wanted it more.

What's worse, my wife graduated from SCSU! Try and live with that for a whole year....

  13. I just think we need more NHL draft choices, including more #1s. Hack just needs more to work with. St.Cloud was able to shut down powerhouse programs like AA, Mich Tech, Robert Morris, and Brown too, not just North Dakota. Just takes a little more time. It'll come around.

  14. If the team's goal is to be in the top 3, it may be that the Sioux need to win all their home games and split on the road. Has anyone used the "what-if" calculator lately? I know this is rather premature and far from accurate, but here's where I think the finish could be if the Sioux sweep at home and split on the road:

    WCHA Final

    Team GP Pts

    UW 28 48

    UMN 28 37

    CC 28 36

    UND 28 36

    Denver 28 34

    UMD 28 21

    SCSU 28 21

    Mankato 28 19

    MTech 28 15

    AA 28 13

  15. How many butt chewings is it gonna take? Please, these guys are either not that good and NHL scouts have made remarkable errors in judgement, or the coaching sucks. WTF? I spend thousands of dollars every year on this team and university and I must say, the product we're getting ain't worth it. Chew butt all you like Hack-stool and remember to have the janitor at Mariucci retrieve your tidy whities from the rafters before you leave.

Sorry about this Ralph, you deserve much better.

  16. I've said this before, if the talent level of this team is so great, its up to the coaches to figure out how to utilize it and get them ready to play with intensity and grit. Only TJ Oshie plays hard every shift. Too many times this season the rest have been nothing more than lackluster in their effort, especially in crucial games (Harvard, Mn, Wis). At least they played with a sense of urgency in the 3rd period last night and hopefully they will try and maintain it for an entire game. If the Sioux expect to finish in the top 3 in the league, they now have to sweep the rodents. Unfortunately, Minnesota is playing at a higher level right now and if the Sioux don't get it together, they'll get blown out in Mpls next week and be traveling during the WCHA playoffs. I sure hope we make the NCAAs so I don't have to sell my tickets to a Gopher fan. Hakstol doesn't have the defensive horses to ride down the stretch this year.

Sorry to be so critical here but what I've seen so far this year is a big disappointment and embarrasing for all the hoopla the recruiting classes receive. Get it together guys and lets start playing some real Sioux hockey!

    GO SIOUX
