  1. You are correct and I would be OK with that. I guess my point is that there are plenty of players that have more offensive potential than porter. He's grind line and nothing more.

  2. Toews, Duncan, Porter Martens or Bishop or Forney or Vandevelde or Walski, basically anyone else would be better..

    Oshie, Kozek, Watkins

    Kaip, Fabian, Porter

    Zajac, Miller, Bishop

    PP1: Oshie, Toews, Duncan

    D: Lee/Chorney

    PP2: Watkins, Kozek, Kaip/Porter

    D: Radke/Finley

Porter does not belong on a top line or on the power play....period!

  3. Polls mean jack. But they obviously are of interest to many as threads across the country discuss them as we are here. Personally I think the current poll is as legitimate as it can be. Mn didn't get any respect when they lost to Maine because they were pegged as a top ranked team and Maine was not. But after Maine continued to make statements on the ice, it legitimized the gopher loss. I ask you, who deserves to be #3 ahead of Mn right now? Mn is still the team to beat.

Yes, they played a couple cream puffs but they destroyed them as they should have while getting scoring depth from multiple lines and from incoming high profile freshman. Given the fact that we have played tougher competition, the Sioux do not have anyone even listed on the statistics after 6 games. We need to find a way to score some goals because we don't have the goaltending we once had.

A league road sweep is really needed right now.

  4. I had the suite in the Shottenstein Center right next to a suite full of Maine fans during the 2005 Frozen Four. All class acts and great fans. They all were cheering for the Sioux, especially when we beat the rodents. It may well be that they hate Minnesota more than any other hockey program. Hopefully we all welcome their fans to our building with respect.

  5. Sioux-per Villan:

If you don't think Porter should be on the 2nd line with Kozek and Watkins, who should? The way I see it, those 3 players all compliment each other. They all play physical, and with Kozek being the sniper, Watkins being the Set-Up man, and Porter filling in the leadership role on the line, that line is complete. It's the type of line every team wants I think: A line that can play physical against the one of the other team's top lines and still contribute on the score board at any given moment.

All I'm saying is that I don't necessarily agree that Porter is poised to have a great year. I thought he was as a Sophmore and a Junior though. I really don't see that he has improved much since his freshman year. Stick him on a line with Fabian and Kaip and have Forney/Bishop skate with Kozek and Watkins. His manerisms on the ice tell me that when the bounces don't come his way, he seems to let it bother him more than the other players. Just an observation. I hope his play this weekend will force me to dine on a roasted crow.

  6. I think "choking" is when you play way below your capability in the big pressure games. For example, the Gophers clearly choked last year versus Holy Cross. It's not fair to Parise to only call him out. In my opinion the entire Sioux defense and Parise choked last year against BC because they played WAY BELOW their capability in the biggest game of the year.

You are right and I stand corrected. The whole team contributed to the choking with no one to deliver a proper Heimlich maneuver when we needed it most.

  7. I tend to disagree. I think Porter is poised to have a great senior year. I say leave him on that 2nd line with Kozek and Watkins, and they will produce some points this year.

Hope I'm wrong but right now I just don't see it.

  8. Agree.

I'm a game time decision. It's pheasant opener.

Dagies, birds are up 37%. Your birds will cleaned and package with plenty of time to spare to make the game. If you're from Mn, then I haven't seen a bird all summer.

I still stand by my "choke" agreement. Either that or BC was a better team which I can't agree with.

  9. Yes, JP choked in Milwaukee and I also agree our biggest question mark is in our goal. We do not historically fair well in Madison so a split for us would be huge. Recent statistics show that we're lucky to split with the Badgers on the road or at home. We only have a decided edge when playing at a neutral site. I suspect both games will be close and entertaining for all spectators.

  10. Ok, if you have a line combination that hasn't been discussed yet I think we would be open to hear what it is but, seriously, why break the ___*____line up? Porter, Watkins and Kozek has show potential too.

I have more hope in Kozek and Watkins than Porter. He should be relegated to the grind line but with the "C" on his jersey, that will probably not happen.

  11. I agree. Toews-Oshie-Duncan need to be broken up but Toews and Duncan need to stay together. They work really well together. I think TJ will soon miss Travis Z and Rastilov. Who steps up to take their place will have a lot of influence on TJ's production. I like Kozek and Fabian.

Miller defintiely has great hands and good overall skills but can't seem to finish. A little Oshie-like bull in a china shop is what he needs.

Vandy seemed really slow and somewhat tentative but in time I think he'll adjust to the speed of the game.

I can't wait to see Forney play but if he's dinged up, I hope he doesn't push it. Look what a bad shoulder did for Hagemo's carrer. Maybe we'll see him Saturday night.

  12. Anyone know the new introduction video that will be used before the players are announced? I've heard it'll be something sweet.

I just hope they do not use the pyrotechnics for the introductions. Between that and the chopper exhaust, my eyes didn't stop burning until the third period of the Manitoba game.

  13. To assume MN hockey players are the only athletes that have indulged in under age drinking is just plain stupid. I am not in ANY way sticking up for these guys (I thought mutliple game suspensions were in order for that that were caught), but the only reason that these players were caught, was because Channel 9, for reasons unknown, went on a witch hunt to find it. I am sure they could go to ANY campus and find the exact same thing.

100% correct. Especially if a recruit is coming from the Iron Range. Underage drinking begins there at the age of 9.

  14. TJ is more likely pass the puck for the sure goal than to make the play himself. I see him as having the highest number of assists the whole time we're lucky to have him here. That's why I see Jonathan as leading the team in goals.

They are both extremely unselfish. Both score 60 pts (30-30)

I just want to hear how the PA Announcer is going to call CV's first collegiate goal...here's your University of North Dakota Fighting Sioux Scoring....Scoring his first goal as a Sioux...
