  1. It's hard to believe that with our tradition and our facilities that we rank a mere fifith in the recruiting rankings in our own conference. Granted, 6th nationally is still pretty good. Hopefully we can secure some of the blue chip talent still available so we can move up on the rankings next year. With the high probability of losing another 4-5 underclassmen next summer, looks like we'll need to make the most of this season as the WCHA will continue to be extremely competitive for the next few years.

    TOP 15 FRESHMAN CLASSES

    1. Minnesota

    2. Boston University

    3. Wisconsin

    4. Denver

    5. Colorado College

    6. North Dakota

    7. St. Cloud State

    8. Cornell

    9. UMass Lowell

    10. Michigan State

  2. The rumor mill is that his parents, Pierre and Linda, are not very happy with the amount of playing time that Phillip has received and do not want Mario to go to UND. I have heard this from several reliable hockey sources from Grand Forks that know them well, but I do not know if it has any validity.

I suspect the playing time argument won't be a valid issue after this season. If he doesn't get the playing time this year, well.....yikes

  3. OH TRUST ME IM GOING TO BE AT THE GAME. WITH 20 OTHER OF MY FRIEND'S THAT ARE GOING WITH ME AND WE ARE GOING TO CHEER ON THE WARRIORS...35-28 THATS THE SCORE OF THEM GAME WILL BE...

Might I suggest staying in school to work on your grammar rather than subjecting yourself to utter humiliation in the bleacher section of the Alerus Center?

  4. I agree that the Sioux should be solid in transition and not need to dump and chase as much this year. But I'm not convinced that UW is the top team after losing Pavelski, Earl, Burish, Gilbert and MacMurchy. Yes they still have Elliott but no proven scoring depth returning. I could be wrong but IMO Mn still has to be the team to beat.

  5. I agree with Sterling. With the offensive talent we have coming back, 175 goals should be a lock. That's basically what our average goals have been over the past 7 years which includes low offensive teams from 2001 and 2004 where we scored 134 and 136 goals respectively. I also think we'll be on the power play more often than shorthanded which will contribute significantly to our offensive production.

In the words of Gov. Pawlenty, "Drop the F#$@ing Puck!"

  6. No question, the bulk of the pressure to perform will be on UND this year. Don't be surprised if we have the same number of underclassmen leave after this season as we did this year. (Oshie, Toews, Lee, Chorney, and Finley). What scares me is what we'll have left after that. The Gooofers have plenty coming in and blue chip recruits in the offing. No pressure on UW, DU, or CC. Denver and CC lost too much to put up much of a charge. Surprise teams this year will be UMD and potentially SCSU.

  7. Can anyone recap who the Sioux lost this year to the pros? I'm starting to get back into hockey mode and I need a quick refresher.

    Underclassmen

    J Parise

    D Stafford

    T Zajac

    M Smaby

    R Spirko

    Graduated

    M Prpich

    L Marvin

  8. As much fun as it would have been to see him poison the Goof locker room I am glad that we won't have to discuss Phil the Krill (formerly known as the one move wonder) again.

No need to worry about that. Hirsch will be back.....

  9. I'll give him (KR) this, he had everybody fooled (except me) about his rehab. I thought it funny about how the announcers on Monday Night Football were praising him on how he's turned his life around. :D

We're damn lucky he didn't kill somebody. What a loser....

  10. I've been called a 'beaner', insulting derogatory and hurtful to 'little girl' me. Persons of Mexican descent are called beaners because beans were a big staple in our diets.

The French are called Frogs because they eat frog legs.

Vietnamese are called Dog eaters because they eat dog.

Remember the Disney movie The Mighty Ducks? One kid called another one 'Cake Eater',as an insult, because the other kid came from a rich community.

The owner of this Quebec basketball team is well aware that the name Frogs is insulting to French people. He wants to nullify the negative term by calling his team the Frogs. Good idea, I agree in princiiple but it is an insult to thousands of people who know that being called a frog is not a compliment.

I'm not going to change any minds here, I know. I just want my opinion, as someone 'who's been there' expressed.

Oh, and one more thing, just because you didn't know a name or term is an insult doen't mean it isn't especially to those who use the term to refer to others and to the others who are subjected to it.

Although I would not be insulted if you were to refer to me as a "beer guzzler"....

  11. jackets, shirts, hats, underwear, pucks, window stickers on both cars and my 4-wheeler, shotgun and rifle cases, Fighting Sioux wallet, Fighting Sioux Zamboni on my desk, 2005 authentic game jersey autographed by the whole team in Columbus, and Sioux vs. Gophers on my SuperChex hockey game. But my favorite is a picture of the empty seats at REA vacated by the gopher fans after Holy Cross finished them off!

  12. I'm considering getting Direct TV in Fargo, ND. Does anyone have an idea of how many Sioux games I might be able to get this season? I'm guessing not a lot, but I was hoping there might be some negotiations to get more games on dish or cable. Thanks

I think you'll get more Sioux games if you go with cableone. (Channel 44 midcontinent I believe)

  13. Speaking of guys in the weight room, Brian Lee was helping out with dry land training at my son's hockey camp this summer and he has bulked up as well. With the signing of CC's Brian Salcido, Lee has the potential to rival Goligoski for the highest scoring defenseman in the league this year. Can't wait for the puck to drop! Of course that all depends on whether he stays another season too.. ???

  14. something I remember & have not seen since - was how Hrkac could have the puck behind the net & it just froze opponents & he was usually shadowed or double teamed - it was like, if we go after him, it was a sure assist - & if they left him alone, it was too ;) You get spoiled seeing a power play like that

I wonder if they show the young guns today those films ? ???

I believe the only film they are required to see is Arch and Eades fighting Wisconsin in their own beer garden. Maybe Slapshot too......

  15. I hope they all do well and it will likely be a battle for the last spot. IMHO, Vandevelde would be my guy too. Although Moorhead didn't win the state his Sr year, Chris dominated the semi-final game and was clearly the best player on the ice that night. I think he has more potential to develop into a top WCHA player than Miller does. But all we can do is speculate.

  16. I agree with your first two lines with Forney and Porter being interchangeable but Toews, Duncan and Porter played together at the end of last year when Stafford was hurt and had a pretty good Final Five. I like the third line but I believe we will have to mix and match it better spreading out the experience and youth a little bit. I like Kaip, Fabian, Vandevelde. Then Zajac, Miller Watkins. Also Finley played with Radke last year and Jones played with Smaby.

my bad about jones/smaby, you are correct. At least I didn't project a spot for Lapointe!

how about an all BCHL line (Kozek, Duncan, Watkins)?
