Are you going to have the taxpayers pay for that also??? NDSU can't raise enough money to pay for anything on their own. i.e Fargo Dome, Newman, new Dome expansion. Just let the state and the city pay it for us. NDSU loses $16,000 for every football game they put on TV this fall. I hope you can buy your way to the "First Yellow State Playoff game in FargoDome history." It has only been 18 years since you hosted one.

Does anyone know what kind of money Bubba and Tom Dosch are getting going with Lennon? It must be pretty good I'm guessing? Anybody know or where that info is?

Apples to oranges? The fact that we are facing an unknown future is why WE NEED Dean Blais. We need games for both football and basketball and what a way to schedule than to get games with schools we already have a relationship with do to hockey. Would it be nice to have an AD that could get us some games vs. Big Ten opponents. Who could get Ron Mason on the phone faster? Gene Taylor or Dean Blais?? We have a huge fan base. Not on the same scale as some Big 10 schools but just go on the road out East and to Denver when we play hockey games. Dean could fund raise just because he's Dean Blais.

Wanless was actually a good guy but he didn't get on Ralph's bad side it was Baker. What hurt Wanless was his inability to stand up to Baker. Wanless actually wanted to make the Blackhawk logo our logo across the board for all athletics. If Wanless did anything wrong it was the way he personally handled the Gino firing. But there is to much inside information on that to discuss here.

I can not disagree with you more. Can you tell me why Michigan State hired the hockey coach (Ron Mason) or even Wisconsin (Barry Alvarez) when they needed an AD?? I'm sure their resumes were loaded with previous AD experience. These two men have what Dean has, a personality that can sell the school. I'm sure having connections all across the country while coaching hockey will not hurt his chances either. Remember a few years back in the old Ralph when Blais was able to convince Notre Dame to come to Grand Forks? How about his connection with Maine, Ohio State, and almost every other Big 10 school? How easy we can forgot that being the AD nowadays is getting more and more a selling job than x's and o's. We need Dean now to give some creditability back to UND after our disaster hiring of Buning. Plus Dean has alot of respect and could be the perfect Ambassador with the Tribes. Anyway that's my 2 cents.
-
Why would Dean Blais be not what UND needs. He was the head of the largest athletic sport at UND. Being an Associate Head Coach at the NHL level speaks for itself. I think the next AD needs to be more of a people person. We DO NOT need another person with no ties to UND. Just look at Wanless (and I knew him personally) and Buning. The coaches need to be happy or nothing else matters. Dean would just what the doctor ordered because he would be the face of UND. After the last disaster we need to bring respect back to the AD job and the University. Dean would fill this role and frankly there is no one out there that can do this. I mean no one.

Did anyone else hear Blais talking with Tim on the radio between the 2nd and 3rd periods Friday night. I could not believe my ears when Tim asked Blais if he would want the AD job and Blais said he was VERY interested!!! He was not joking either. Being here in Fargo the new UP Center has some skeletons and I wonder if Blais is worried about the future in Fargo regarding the USHL situation and the Arena that the Park Board had to bail out. He sounded very serious. He is what UND needs regarding the DI move and the current nickname debate. Anubody else hear this???

I'm part Creek Indian (I wonder if my family is considered a Tribe?) and I would give my endorsement. Plus I'm from Lakota so does that make me an expert in Indian affairs??

Board could retire name within a few weeks

Isn't that what NDSU coaches used to tell their recruit in the 90s -

We need to pressure the board in keeping to the terms of the agreement because Ron Ncneil is up for reelection in 2009. UND has until 2010. He is pressuring the Board so he does not have this as an issue because the majority of the Standing Rock members might have their voice heard by voing him out. -
But if we HAVE to get another nickname my suggestion is "The Scouts." In honor of the brave Lakota Warriors that fought and died for the United States at the Battle of the Little Bighorn. These brave Scouts have been labeled traitors by their people but I say we do the right thing and honor these great native Americans that fought and died for this country.

I just wish everybody(including the State Board Of Higher ED) would just slow dow and realize we have 3 years. Ron Mcneil is up for reelection in 2009. He does not want this for an issue then because there are alot of people at Standing Rock that are for the nickname. If we get one Tribe's aproval we will get the other. This election will really tell the correct story on the "Sioux" nickname. We just need the Board to honor the 3 years we have but anything can happen. Funny how the Herald and Forum haven't raised the question of Ron Mcneil's length of his term. But that for another post.

Nickname Letter to the Editor in the Bismarck Tribune
TheGreatSiouxNation replied to SiouxperDave's topic in UND Nickname
I wonder if Ron McNeil (Ron His Horse Is Thunder's real name) is pushing this through fast because he comes up for reelection in 2009? I wonder if he feels pressure from some "Elists" who work at UND? I would like to thank Mr. Fool Bear for his letter and would encourage him to run for Tribal Chair in 2009 and I would like to be the first to donate to his campaign. This man has added the most insight from anyone in this debate. -
Is it just me or do the Sioux look VERY slow??? We need something to light the fire!!

lol, usually I'm bashing Velcro Tech but let's be honest. UND smells better than Sheep State! And that goes for South Velcro Tech also!
-
My Dad told this fall in over 60 years of watching high school football he has never seen a better quarterback in Seth Nichols. Got it all in terms of size, speed and arm strength. And the best RB he's ever seen is Johannsen of Lakota but he says his weight might go against him. He also stated that Johannesen might well be the best athlete Lakota has ever had. And says he's better than Rick Helling. Sorry Fargo Shanley but Rick is a "true Lakota" boy.

\ It's the same at NDSU. Trust me I go there once a month for work and I have to go in the belly of this campus. And I grew up on a farm but the last thing I want in college is something to remind me of cleaning manure from the barns every second I walk to class. I've played at SDSU also and the campus is a mirror of NDSU. No disrespect but those two schools are Ag related and with that comes barns and the smell. Coach Lennon is heads above all three schools (NDSU.SDSU and USD) when it comes to a class act. And I know the Yellow lovers will bash me for this but it is the truth. Lennon with 63 full will be almost unfair!

Does anyone know what UND pays for rent?? I heard around $20,000 a game. Don't know if that's true. Sounds high to me.

The Gopher women's basketball team also plays Utah this season. So Minnesota plays Central Michigan, Florida State and Utah. What credibility does AD Joe have left? Laughable!!

Williston State's name just proves that the tribal leaders and the powers to be are not really upset with Indian nicknames. If they were the Tribal Leaders and State Board of Higher Education would have to change this name long ago. I was using it as an example of how a few can pick and choose what is offensive. Yet I hear nothing from Ron His Horse is Thunder.
-
It is also the westermost sioux tribe. But it means many things but there is no recogized Teton Tribe within North Dakota. Easy pickings if you ask me.
-
I still say we steal Williston State name "Tetons". Imagine the logo still intact and no tribal approval from either Devils Lake or Standing Rock. Plus the French muddied this word and it means "Teats". But there are also an Indian Tribe, river and mountain range. We would only need approval from a small tribe out west.
