  1. I spoke with someone in the band and he said they aren't doing the "hey song" because of that reason. We spoke for quite a bit about band stuff and they are actively trying to replace Sioux cheers. I wish they would just have an absence in those times and let the crowd be the crowd. I am particularly sick of the band though for playing over "Let's Go Sioux" with that annoying "ugh" song and other crap like that.

Our discussion started on me getting upset about them changing the end of the school song. So, in admission of a band member, they were changing specifically to hide students saying the word Sioux because its the Voldemort for the administration.

  2. I strongly disagree with the hockey seating priority, and last year as a student i had perfect attendance at football and hockey. There is no reason to award your fandom in one sport in another. There are a variety of reasons which could limit attendance at one of the sports.

Interesting point on it being a dark building. Never really thought about it, but realized it when you said that. There probably is something to that.

I can understand the tailgating point brought up. I tailgate with GF guys (when I make it back now), but the student lot is pretty far away and makes you feel like you are out in the boonies. I have no idea if the student lot was closer to the building if it would help or not, just a thought.

  3. One of my favorite games was the Minnesota win this year. I believe it was the first game without the nickname, and I thought the feeling in the air was just kind of a culmination of pissed off and hate. It was electric in the building, and Big Mac's goal was the first time I haven't been able to hear the band after a goal because the crowd was so loud.

  4. There were not very many UND students who made the trip. I am sure more will this time around. I look forward to a variety of insults and chants being directed at them.

The opportunity is there but I can about imagine the reaction on here if the NDSU students got a chant about Kristo's drunken frozen feet extravaganza at a basketball game.

Yeah, I guess you got us there... we'll never be able to live the Kristo incident down. We're kind caught with our pants around our ankles on this one.

  5. I just wish they would let the students stand again... they are plenty that wait for hours each weekend who would love to lead the entire section to a more rowdy atmosphere. Also, I will never get past my "move the band out of the lower bowl" campaign. Two things that would help.

  6. To have a chance at playoffs (Jim Mora edit) we need to get this one or Montana State. The defense needs to start the game better. One thing that I've taken away is the defense has played better in certain quarters lately (in Sac State and Cal Poly), but except for the first game, they've gotten jumped on early. Portland was first play of the game. Sac's first drive was their best. The whole first quarter against Poly wasn't very easy on the eyes from the Sioux sideline. However, in Sac, they got a lead and we able to do some ballhawk and get some turnovers. After the first quarter last week, the defense stood tall and was actually making plays, not just stopping them. The 4th wasn't good, but I think being on the field for so long was an issue there (which in fairness is something Poly gameplans to do). If the Sioux defense can get an early stop or two, and the offense can get a quick lead, it plays to the defense's strengths. Mersereau can do some ballhawking, which is his strength, and we can let Ross Brenneman and blitzing linebackers loose to add to the population of Sack City. There is your recipe.

  7. I'm coming all the way from wild wild williston for both NAU and the Griz, so +1 on both those... I think its just going to take time for attendance to be consistently greater. Football attendance is compared often to hockey on this board, but I think that's pretty unfair to compare to a program which is at the pinnacle of it's league, has the history it has, and has a venue like it has. Football will never have a Ralph type stadium. We could say outdoor would be cool, but that's not going to happen in the near future. If the athletic department keeps up the current promotions it will eventually pick up, it just doesn't happen over night. Besides in-game/pre-game videos and stuff like that, I don't know what else they can do to promote football. It will just just time and word of mouth for people to realize the games are a great time and a great value.

Now if they'd sell standing room tickets for the concourse...
