There's not a "Duh" big enough for this statement:

Among challenges submitted, the lack of a bridge on the city’s south end received a mention,

A mention?  EGF will NEVER experience meaningful growth until it is connected to the economic heart of GFK (i.e., 32nd Ave. and, increasingly, points south).  Which kind of begs the question…with seemingly nobody being able to agree on the southern bypass along Merrifield and into MN, which mythical Red River bridge project happens first?

Not sure why, Football has never used the logo before and likely will not start, same story for basketball.

Is that a reasoned analysis, or wishful thinking? I think it's fairly clear that UND is going all-in on the new name AND logo. Athletics (not just hockey) has multiple seats on the design firm selection committee. Football helmets are a great canvas for showcasing logo art, preferable in many ways to team uniforms and other types of athlete apparel. A great design will look awesome on the huge HD jumbotrons, even if the Alerus midfield turf remains bland. Football needs a boost in both attendance and gameday presentation, and for far too long has languished in the area of merchandise availability. Branding Fighting Hawk football will be job # 1, IMHO.

  3. This thread seems as good a place for this as any.

TruGreen Chemlawn is pulling out of GF altogether. I will be looking for a new weed and feed service once the snow melts. (Optimistic, I know.)

Thanks in advance for any referrals!

Omaha might just be an exception:

Nov. 2010, Omaha, SPLIT, two 1-goal games

Jan. 2011, GFK, SPLIT, included the 8-4 shellacking (one of the worst, if not the worst, losses at REA for UND)

Dec. 2011, GFK, SPLIT, two 1-goal games including 1 in OT

Feb. 2013, Omaha, UND SWEEP (Sioux and fans embarrassed UNO at their outdoor showcase game)

Nov. 2013, Omaha, SPLIT, one 1-goal game and one 2-goal game

Feb. 2014, GFK, SPLIT, infamous Dean Blais ejection before UNO comes back and wins

Nov. 2014, GFK, UND W and TIE, includes UNO shootout Win and yet another 1-goal game

Jan. 2015, Omaha, SPLIT, both games OT

UND leads series, 9-6-1, which kind of looks deceptive.

9-7-1.  Yet another chippy game and an OT victory for the road club.

How is this not a rivalry again?

Impressive draw in terms of national scope.  Maybe a little bit surprised at the lack of local designers tossing their hat in the ring.  Was the bar set too high?

  6. Meanwhile…somewhere in Colorado:

    MARCIA:  Bob, is that you?

BOB:  [click, click, click] Yeah, honey.  Just, uh, surfing the web. [click, click, click]

MARCIA:  But it's your first day of retirement, don't you just want to sleep in?  It's very early.

BOB:  [click, click, click] I know, honey.  I'm just, um, checking on some, um, things.  [click, click, click]  You go back to sleep and I'll be there in a few.  [click, click, click]

MARCIA:  Okay, sweetie.  Oh, by the way, did you see that new English-to-Chinese dictionary arrived yesterday?  I put it on your desk.

BOB:  [click, click, click]  I did see that.  Thanks.  Good night, honey.  [click, click, click]

I had no idea they were interested in UND football.

Actually, the UND hockey and football threads were untouched.  The NCAA one got slammed (7+ pages).

1000 Degree Neapolitan opened.  Anybody been there?

Drove by around opening time today but didn't stop.  One loop around the lot told me that parking could be a problem for the foreseeable future.  Seems that many of those new hotels along 42nd have limited parking to begin with.

It's cute that we're really their only "rivalry" and it's a big weekend for them, but it's just another day for me...

You ain't kidding.  In Maverick lore, "8-4" (Jan. 21, 2011, UNO's debut at the Ralph) ranks right up there with their 2015 FF appearance and the opening of their new arena.

Who cares about the "lineage". It just shows how UND is in his blood.

Who cares? Obviously, Ray does. He name-dropped, plain and simple.

You don't need to apologize for him. Just agree with me that it was uber-tacky to do it in a professional resume.

So why not Ray Purpur? He's 46, a good age with lots of energy to take on the job. He's a UND grad, who's done well at another very good school. He's not a professor/department head from some effete eastern school. He bleeds green and sees this as a lifetime dream job, not a stepping stone, or a final run before retiring. He compares well to the last good prez we had. If I had a vote, he'd get it!

Maybe. But including your family connections in your resume is a wee bit tacky, no? I mean, a subtle, CASUAL reference in your cover letter is one thing, but to put your freaking family lineage in your resume? When it's completely obvious from your last name anyway? Sounds like something a Kennedy, Vanderbilt, or a British royal would do...not a middle aged man from Grand Forks, even though he is as close to GF/hockey royalty as people are going to get around here.

Alerus has two brand new HQ video/scoreboards.  What the heck passes for a "jumbotron" these days?
