Boutique shops and storefronts and small commercial spaces may make landowners and developers money and generate tax revenue, but for many of us they don't exactly move the QOL needle, especially when they consist of niche or non-essential goods and services.
Food and mainline retail are always going to make a bigger splash, and popular chains and familiar brands will make visitors and new arrivals to the area feel more welcome, and will diminish dependence on trips to Fargo.
There needs to be a better balance between the two.

Not sure i’d consider growing 12% from 2010 to 2020 “dying” haha
Now do Fargo.
By comparison (which is inevitable), GF feels stagnant. And I try to be optimistic. The economic growth just isn't palpable.

if GF brings people to sell GF from the airport two of the most beautiful locations they get to see are the abandoned westward ho hotel and the abandoned ideal inn across the street from subaru store....great impressions.
Many cities have unflattering areas nearest their airports...just a function of where airports tend to be, and nearby land utilization. That said, you can always head south - past the bison - and then take Demers into town. Other than a seedy concrete plant and a dumpy, old self-storage, you do get a remodeled Amtrak station, a glimpse of the western edge of UND's campus, a golf course, and the Alerus/Canad complex with ringed with newer hotels.
Drive a little further south, and 32nd gives you some bustle and promise (after a lot of nothing), but there's still some vacant retail, vacant restaurants, and a clinically dead mall.
There's not enough lipstick to dress GF up as much more than it is (a bluish-collar and proud college town with economic vulnerability and somewhat stagnant growth), and it would be hard to take someone on a 'perfect' driving tour from the airport that would leave them feeling otherwise. Maybe a helicopter?
But damn...have you seen the old Ambassador Motel site? Something is rising from the ashes!

Is that aquarium still supposed to be going in the old KMart spot?
No...that particular monorail is being built in Shelbyville.

Just looked at all the recently sold items on eBay by searching “fighting Sioux” compare to “North Dakota Fighting hawks” and the Sioux logo items outsold the hawk logo merchandise by 389-58!!!!
what does that tell you? No one wants to buy the fighting hawk garbage
Pretty non-scientific analysis, especially when you compare the retail/resale market for used and/or knockoff items (heavily favors eBay and Sioux) to that for new and officially licensed product (many more, and more reputable, outlets for Hawks gear).
Adjust for that, and then the data will begin to make sense, and potentially be more persuasive.
I still use the eye-test at the Alerus and Ralph, where the Hawks are definitely gaining ground.

Nice write-up, but, OOF...that spelling.
Although, if the game ends in a rout, they will have seemed prescient.

This is a huge nothingburger. Heck, at Hogwarts, they let the dearly departed mingle with the students in the dining hall.

Devil's advocate here, but I'd rather win without one. NIL is destined to ruin college sports anyway. Why not buck the trend and compete straight up?
Players who would come here only for the easy money are probably here for the wrong reason.

Hoping he can recapture some of the early season magic, and a little more consistency. Still likely to be a factor down the stretch in terms of a high finish for the Cup.
ND's Tom Hoge sitting at T10 heading into the final day of the Tour Championship...looks to be a very nice payday. Also reportedly in the mix for a spot on the Presidents' Cup roster.
Whether it's a bug or a feature of the system, it definitely shows that playing well early in the season and notching at least one W can offset a mediocre summer.

This caption from the Lincoln, NE newspaper caught my eye. Wonder who they'll be cheering for next week. And how they got out of GF with our airport closed.

PGA Tour announces sweeping changes re: player participation and compensation. No matter how anyone might try to spin it, LIV moved the needle, and the PGA was caught with its pants down.
My question is...will anyone give credit where credit is due? Greg Norman has now done as much for players financially as Tiger before him.

I suspect most of the population growth was young single men...not exactly families
Possibly, but the news ~10 years ago was full of stories like this.
QuoteIn some cases, increases have strained existing school district physical capacity and resources, according to the study. For example, in 2011, the Williston School District converted a library into a classroom and moved the library into a hallway.

Tonight's openers:
GFC 35 Watford City 0
GFRR 43 Williston 14
I always kind of figured that the population boom in the oil patch would generate athletic success, especially with influx of workers from FB-crazy TX and OK. Still on track, or have we seen a crest?

I haven't watched until tonight, but I'm guessing based on the advertising alone that the TV viewership may be on par with the live attendance.
I mean, woof! Bladder control, final expense insurance, talc powder feminine hygiene class actions...WhoTF do they think is watching this stuff?

Face value, I agree. TM fees on the other hand? For people who don't attend a lot of events, and are looking to stretch their entertainment dollar, watching a $20 ticket magically turn into a $26 (or more) ticket can be rage-inducing. I know some people prefer transparency, which is why the base price is shown to begin with, but the ticketing industry needs to be launched into space and we need to start fresh.
