Unpopular take, but here it is:

    No more destination games.

It's too much about the destination and not enough about the game.

But, if we're being completely honest here, will it ever not be incredibly sweet how UND spoiled UNO's baseball stadium game to take the indoor/outdoor weekend sweep?

  2. And speaking of criticism, if NIL collectives are by definition an external endeavor by fundraisers and boosters, why are people blaming UND for the lack of one in the first place? Several posters here are calling out Chaves, but for what?

Something like this needs to be a top priority and it's 100% legit and aligned with the spirit of the original NIL rules.  I hope Chaves doesn't think a wait and see approach is necessary for something like this.  UND could sell authentic hockey jerseys with the names and numbers of current players, and they could sell jirts of current players as well.

    https://frontofficesports.com/college-football-jersey-sales/

In theory, this should work, but not until there is a players' association or some entity to bargain on behalf of all athletes collectively.  Schools are not going to want to do one-off negotiations with their own students.  Can you imagine the chaos when player B finds out that his teammate, player A, got a better cut of jersey sales?  Or player C who didn't push for a better shirt deal gets more playing time than player D who did.  Nightmare scenarios.

The Customs shop at REA likely has a direct deal with the NHLPA.  That would keep them from having to track down individual athletes, and keeps UND out of it other than the fact the UND jersey being customized was itself legally sold (and UND got their cut).

EDIT: The article doesn't indicate whether any of the 40 schools were actively or directly involved, so whether this is a UND decision at all is unclear. If it's entirely a student opt-in, then criticism of UND is simply misplaced.

  5. The new Tidal Wave car wash at 17th & Columbia does a pretty decent job.  I had a grand opening free pass so it didn't cost me anything, but I would encourage people with dirty cars to give it a try.  Not sure how their membership rates compare to Rydell but the wash was at least as good if not better.

And not a hint of residual Thickburger was detected.

Lol reading the Bison fan replies on this - Imagine thinking the Fargodome is nice! Lmao. Also, their brand new indoor practice facility is extremely underwhelming for a team that has a fan base begging for a Big Ten invite.

Blown over porta-johns not the best look for UND.  But with the brown, desolate landscape, and the fact you can just feel the wind, kinda on-brand.

    Also, that mint green color...

Penn state collective buying disability insurance for football team. University has been helping facilitate.

    https://www.sportsbusinessjournal.com/en/Daily/Issues/2022/10/10/Colleges/Penn-State-NIL-collective-disability-insurance

“varying levels of remaining eligibility linked to a policy that ensures they can continue to receive partial income if they sustain injuries or are unable to play.” We Are NIL is also “receiving support from the university, despite not being directly affiliated.” Penn State coach James Franklin “has been particularly supportive”

A six-figure premium for 13 potential pros?  What risk pool are they using???  I'm sure that the "support" of the coach means a lot, though, when that bill comes due.

Easier to just let players use their NIL income to purchase their own personal insurance.

    Discount tire store

With inflated prices, in alignment with an otherwise flat market. Until they gain traction, at which time they will have a Goodyear.  And bring balance to the local economy.

After looking at it closely, he was trying to hurt himself. Maybe the refs should have got to him right away, because if he would have got the artery it would have got real bad real fast.

Hope he gets the help he needs.

Ironically or not, if you were to sustain a severe laceration (even self-inflicted), a hockey game might be the BEST place, because there are presumably professionals on hand with the tools and know-how to arrest the bleeding and possibly save your life.

On top of all that, the CDL classes that are required are 8-5  M-F for about 3 weeks, and cost a bunch of money  (about $6,000) and you cannot miss much at all!

Hmmm.  I know where to find a bunch of captive people who are already available for those class times and whose education is already fully subsidized…HIGH SCHOOL.

It seems that society looks to trade schools, colleges, and universities almost exclusively to meet workforce needs, but we definitely need to expand our thinking.  A quarter or module of HS devoted to CDL might actually draw students, and could open a pipeline that will address the problem.  Anybody know if these programs exist?

And speaking about captive learners, what about prisons?

  11. A few reasons Zags works:

    1. Monosyllabic, fun, rolls easily off the tongue.

    2. Plural; singular sounding nicknames tend to suck, or at least be hard to modify for casual use.

    3. People (fans and media) actually use it.

Nodak is more of a placeholder, something that desperately wants to be a fun alt-identity, but isn't.

Try it with North Carolina. Everybody loves "Carolina" and the "Heels," but has anyone ever used "Nocar"?

"Daks" would be closer, but still doesn't flow because people say "Duh-Kota" and not "Daa-kota."

Great monikers happen, but cannot be forced.

I watched on Twitch for free, stream had problems, freezing and buffering.  At one point over 100k viewers.

Twitch is basically just someone else’s pirated stream, right?

  13. Curious where others stand on the Amazon Prime exclusive streaming deal for Thursday Night Football that launched yesterday and lasts (I think) several years.

Regular NFL viewer here, but not a Prime subscriber (I have too many services and subs as it is.). I had frankly forgotten about it until last night and then was mildly annoyed that the game wasn’t televised but made no effort to watch or follow the game whatsoever.  I think this hurts the NFL long-term, but what say you?

I apologize for everyone that wanted "North Dakota" as our offical name and said that there would be no mascot options.  No one could think up a good "North Dakota" mascot.....until now!!:D

So, Badlands = Buttlands?  And Devils Lake blows?  And poor MN basically gets tag-teamed from behind?
