  1. .

Not when one of those good goalies name was Mike Lee.

    ...or Bobby Goepfert :)

Their freshman last year was pretty impressive, especially against the Sioux. I'd say Wisconsin and/or Denver were those teams that always seemed to have top-shelf goaltending. At least over the last 10 years.

  2. But in all reality, these coaches are recruiting the best possible COLLEGE players, not for the NHL. The NHL teams have their own recruiters.

I'm not in favor of Eades over Berry or vice versa, just indicating that the coaches are recruiting primarily to build the best UND team possible.

  3. Granted, Berry does fit the best, but I don't see anything in the required or preferred qualifications that says this person needs to be a UND alumni

What if they find an excellent D1 assistant from out East?

It is a nice sense of pride, though, having an entire coaching staff of alumni.

  4. Yeah, I was able to watch all games on Directv in Fargo. But I still wish someone else, like NBC, owned the rights. ESPN doesn't do anything with hockey anymore. And while all of the play by play and color guys know the sport, they mostly have no clue about the teams they're talking about. I actually felt really bad for Anson Carter when he was asked about the difference for UND in todays game. His answer was: too much of our top line...which is actually not even close to the truth. I don't like Buccigross's pbp or Starman's color. The rest are only decent, but nothing like the guys doing NHL for NBCSN.

  5. Lots of penalties in the Gopher game today. UND needs to keep their emotions in check, and cash in if they get powerplays early. MN is going to come out guns blazing and wanting revenge, so there could be some calls as things get going.

  6. I didn't think the Sioux deserved that one until the third. Probably conserving energy for the push, but the intensity wasn't really there. Great win though against a very solid team that decisively swept Omaha. See you tomorrow boys!

  7. I'm not sure thats how it works....last year bemidji (6) upset umd(3) in the 3vs6 matchup and played denver, the two seed, in the semis...

I believe the teams are only re-seeded once (prior to the first game of the F5), after that it follows a bracket.

  8. More info on the TV front... Friday is on NBCSN. Saturday gets tricky. For Fargo (Cable One) it does show FCS has the game on 308 but only from 9:00-10:30 CT so it looks like it may be joined in progress. They did this with Michigan-Mich Stats two weeks back. It will be T H time for the 1st period.

Or, I believe Root Sports RM will show the game on time. If you get DirecTV, or another provider with those channels, then you're in luck.

  9. It's nice that the Sioux are catching Tech now. They've gotten the jump on a lot of teams this year. There shouldn't be any surprises at this time of year. Granted it's hard to look past the last few years of bad hockey from Houghton, but they'll be ready.

I'll be there tonight, and (thankfully) watching on DTV tomorrow.

  10. Not to hijack the thread but on a related question, would a Roku or similar device enable picking up the streaming UND Sports Network (or whatever its called now)?

I know there's not currently a channel for it, and I doubt that will change. The broadcast provider would either need to partner with Roku, or someone would have to partner with the broadcast provider and make a channel.

I bought a Roku LT shortly after Christmas for a TV with no cable nearby. I love the little box, and 98% of its use is for Netflix streaming. For streaming web events to a TV you'd need something like a Boxee box or Home Theater PC. In some cases, you could also need a computer sending the stream to your streaming box.

Unfortunately, live sports is the problem with cable-cutting. I'm considering it, but am realistic that I'll only get network sports broadcasts (CBS, NBC, ABC, FOX) via OTA HD antenna...so no Sioux hockey. I haven't put a ton of thought into a FTA satellite, but that would probably be the only option when the games aren't on WDAZ/WDAY.

  11. I remember some much more seasoned/talented Sioux teams having terrible times coming back after a second period deficit. A couple years back there was a 20-plus game streak of futility when down after two. To me that says more than anything about the young season.

  12. As soon as this was announced, I was really excited. This is nearly equivalent to seeing a Frozen 4 matchup, and the fact that tickets are reasonably priced/easy to come by is pretty insane. I picked up my tickets, and can't wait until this weekend! Hoping for a matchup against BC on Sat night, as those are always great (except when they're not so great.)
