  1. Mattson stood out in a big way to me. #5 is appropriate based on his skatingand offensive awareness.

Good game, Rowney and Rodwell looked good as well. Hoping Grimaldi and St.Clair will be able to play next week, when it matters.

  2. Anyone know if the game is on Fox College Sports on Saturday? I checked the guide last night and it only showed college football on all 3 of the FCS channels.

I can only say that the exhibition games for the last few years were on FCS. Though I thought all of our home games were supposed to be shown on one of the channels (617, 623, and one other I believe) I know a couple did not air last year.

  3. agree. however, should JG,Hextal, Blood and Kristo leave you will have no real proven scorers returning(knight is more of a set up man) and a bunch of grinders with an unproven freshman class. we would go from having four d coming back with 2 freshman on a regular basis to 3 vets and 3 freshman-ouch. geez, we go from a senior class where no one left to one that could postentially be just 2-eids and mario from a class of seven at the start.

Yeah, it's pretty special when a class stays together til the end like the last one did. I count the following IF Blood leaves:

    Gleason

    Mac

    Forbort

    Simpson

Plus Hill and a couple freshmen, so a pretty solid group. I think Gleason will make big strides into becoming UND's main puck-moving defenseman. Mac, Forbort, and Simpson should be beasts back there.

Nelson could be a force with a few more pounds. He started finding the back of the net with some regularity at the end of the season. I'm also looking forward to Rodwell's progression.

Let's just say everyone stays then we can worry about the Icebreaker. :D

  4. I said it in an different thread but next year really could be a rebuilding year. :(

Rebuilding can really happen anytime when recruits don't pan out as expected. However, UND has two really big things going for it next year: defense and goaltending. Those two things are crucial to tournament runs. UND will return a great D-corps and possibly two very proven goaltenders. Obviously scoring is important, as they learned this year, but some of the underclassmen forwards will return to lead that charge. I'm REALLY hoping Gregoire stays above all others.

  5. I say one big key is stopping Denver in the 3rd period. Their history this year shows that they get behind, and own the 3rd. Maybe those OTs yesterday will be the difference. But I say the Sioux need to own that 3rd period. Don't give them anything. Don't let the foot off the gas. Punch that ticket, so I can be there watching in a few weeks!

  6. Their first powerplay goal was sick...best puck movement on a pp that I've seen all year. THey will be a tough draw for BC (likely)

I agree, Schlossman's description of that goal is off a bit. There was great puck movement to the guy at the top of the circle and he wired that slapper short-side corner. Beautiful. When UND took that penalty with just under 3 remaining I was a bit nervous.

  7. I agree with Bjugstad improving steadily this year. I thought he was clearly the best skater for the Gophers over the last couple months. If not for Patterson, he would have been their best player.

It's a bummer about Ness if true. I think he could come around and be a good two-way blue-liner next year for UM. The tough seasons will continue if they can't keep their D recruits until they mature.

  8. Based on the current PWR, the brackets would be very clear cut in my opinion. Straight bracket integrity with no need to move anybody to avoid intra-conference matchups:

    East (Bridgeport):

Yale vs. RIT (or Atlantic Hockey Winner)

    Union vs. UNO

    Midwest (Green Bay):

    North Dakota vs. Western Michigan

    Duluth vs. Notre Dame

    Northeast (Manchester):

    Boston College vs. Wisconsin

    Michigan vs. New Hampshire

    West (St. Louis):

    Merrimack vs. RPI

    Denver vs. Miami

Attendance would be OK everywhere except St. Louis. I do agree with the opinion that the committee will try to place North Dakota in St. Louis if at all possible, but in this scenario, I'm not sure how they could make it work.

What about this crazy thought -- Hakstol vs. Blais for the national title?

As a Sioux fan, there's no way I would complain about BC's bracket. Look who they face...rematch of last year's NC game, then UNH or Michigan. That's a TOUGH bracket! Contrast that with UND's. I know in a one-and-done anyone is susceptible to an upset, but still. Despite them getting home ice, it wouldn't be a cake walk.

  9. When the Gophers were on yesterday, they looked pretty good. They did let a few guys camp out in front of the net, though, so defense is still suspect. But their forwards had good jump, and played pretty well as a group. I am expecting them in the Final 5, and wouldn't be surprised if they won a game there. Shouldn't be enough to get them into the tourney...but their schedule is the mirror of ours for the next two weekends, so you never know.

  10. This would clinch at least a share of the Cup with Denver (I think Duluth and Omaha would be out of the running). But I don't want to have the Cup presented to us before we've cliniched it outright; it will encourage the boys to take the foot off of the gas pedal and I don't want that. In 1997, we clinched a share of the title with back-to-back shutout wins at home vs. Anchorage and McLeod presented the Cup to us on Saturday night. We then proceeded to get swept at Denver and had to share the Cup with the dirty Rodents. I think the odds of getting swept at Tech are very slim, but I've seen stranger things happen. Let's get it done first and celebrate second.

Although...if the outcomes would be the same as that season, I wouldn't mind sharing the cup.

  11. Cook is actually better than he's given credit for. He really started hitting his stride near the end of last year. He almost stole the series for us last year in the playoffs against SCSU. Our team defense has finally gotten to the point of being able to confident in front of him. I can virtually guarantee the Sioux will have at least 3 odd man rushes each game still. Our defense tends to hang our goalies out to dry a lot.

EDIT: Holy crap, I cant believe I registered almost 2 years ago and just made my first post.

How would you compare him with Zacharias?

  12. I think that's because the DTV channels are a conglomeration of various other sports channels. I've got the actual FCS channels on my lineup, and this game was definitely showing before 7:00. DTV was just scheduled to show FCS-Central at 7:00, so they turned it on. It just happens to be showing a different program than everybody expected.

On the bright side, these teams seem to not know how to pass the ball, which will keep the clock running, plus CDO only has one timeout left.

Thanks for the explanation. :-) Sounds like Trupp scored on a pretty play.

    And LaPoint!
