  1. Now is the time to fight the NCAA. The stars are aligned correctly - bad press from several corners, public references to the NCAA by families of athletes, coaches, U.S. Representatives as the Gestapo and the Mafia, a tribe who is supposedly a beneficiary of an asinine policy suing the NCAA over that policy and over anti-trust claims, etc. If you're so interested in taking down the monster and helping UND and retaining the nickname and logo, then go circulate some petitions. It is not the time for pusillanimity. WTF you guys? So, the NCAA could "retaliate", even in the middle of an anti-trust lawsuit? Really? It's either right or it's not, as the below article illustrates. It's either abusive or it's not, as the below article indicates. You either have backbone to oppose this crap or you don't and you live with a bully's ongoing destructive antics. Many of you would have fit quite nicely in 1930's isolationist America. So, the coin of the realm is that it's ok for a tribe to be disrespected as long as that same bully - for now - does not assault us? It's ok for someone else to get beaten up and I can watch and do nothing and feel ok about it just as long as that bully does not touch me? Indeed, if it did who would be there to help you. Certainly, some other person abiding by the same reasoning would be of no help. It really does not take a lot to see how craven and insipid this position is.

"So long as schools continue to cower in the face of N.C.A.A. abuses, those abuses will continue.

The Temi Fagbenle case was a perfect opportunity for Harvard to stand up for what’s right. Maybe next time."

Many could learn from this and much good and timely corrective action would be obtained, if people listened to and followed this sage advice. You never stop fighting against this. Otherwise, go join the ranks of the Vichy French. Standing by and doing nothing is tantamount to collaboration, in my opinion. It's collaboration by inaction.

Handicapping UND with the petitions/laws is not the way to fight the NC$$ because the NC$$ does not care about little North Dakota's laws. Good luck to SL with the lawsuit, as that (or convincing the SR council to approve the name) is the only way anything is going to change with respect to the NC$$.

  2. I believe they were the main sponsor, but I did not hear or see anything to the like of them giving out free tickets like they did last year down in Fargo. The only free tickets that were given out were student tickets, which is normal.

And calling those student tickets "free" is a stretch, since a portion of their student fees are charged to pay for those tickets.

  3. Congenital in 1% of population. I have no clue if he had it from birth or trauma caused it or if it was a combo of the two. My point is that it was wreckless to state, as jk did, that no matter if or when surgery was performed that it would have been season ending regardless. Based on the limited info on his situation, he could have possibly been able to play by now or earlier if surgery would have been performed right after the injury occured or got worse from trauma...not a given, but odds were in his favor. Now it is season ending as there is no point to race him back even if his recovery falls within the general norm of 1-2 months recovery time follwing surgery.

If I remember correctly, when it was announced several months ago that he had this injury it was stated that he could have the surgery then and his season would be over or he could wait and see if he could play with the injury.

  4. I think obese women might be offended by the "Bison" moniker ... :hypocrite::lol:

    +1

NDSU better put together a committee to study the effects of its moniker on certain under-represented groups. Very important to stay ahead of this. ;)

  5. Frank isn't exactly eloquent but he is passionate about how he feels. He does mix fact with fiction. I hope he wasn't insinuating that Tom Clifford would support this latest petition. I doubt that he would. He would likely support the Native Americans taking the NCAA to court. Frank has no factual basis to contradict what the Big Sky Commissioner said about UND's Big Sky affiliation being in jeopardy if we continue to remain sanctioned by the NCAA for the name. He forgets to comment on not being able to play the Gophers or Badgers in hockey anymore and now that might harm recruiting. He rambles on quite a bit and at times it is tough to hang in and listen but he is correct about the majority of Native Americans that have voted or been polled showing support for the name. That has always been the case. He doesn't explain where he has been the last 20 years when we could all see this coming including his warning from Tom Clifford, and not having been leading the charge to get support from the two reservations. To blame UND officials who weren't here when this came down is irrelevant. All of what Frank wants to happen can still occur without the stupid petition. Legislation will cause problems for UND and UND athletics just like last time and just like this goofy 3 year cooling off period. Frank needed to have a taped interview with the Big Sky Commissioner to prove what he claims is true. He also needs to have a discussion with Faison and Hakstol about the loss of the Gophers and Badgers on our future schedules. Too many threats to our future to buy into his rhetoric but give him credit for his passion.

Passionate fools are the most dangerous fools of all. I respect that he is a former Sioux athlete, but just because he is a former athlete doesn't mean he is a credible source for information relating to this issue. As has been said many times before.... I love the Sioux name, but I recognize that the state's laws will have NO bearing on the NCAA's policies and decisions. The only way we keep the Sioux name without serious blowback from the NCAA and other Universities is if SL is successful in their lawsuit against the NCAA. These petitions (primarily the constitutional one) will place UND in a very difficult position if they are passed. Therefore, I am not supportive of the petitions.

  6. #3 (Felt). Heck of a shooter, responded to a couple of our big 3's with one of his own. Also flops around, saw him on the ground 3-4 times without much contact. He did draw a foul on one of them so I guess it worked.

Anderson kind of did the same though... although maybe his getting knocked around was legitimate since he's kind of small and NDSU was playing pretty "intensely." :glare:

  7. Dom Izzo kept saying stuff like "What's it like to finally get a win against the Bison", and it's the first win over the Bison since 2004. They only played once since 2004, so it was very deceptive and kind of odd he would even bring that up when he knows last year was the first time they've met since then.

I noticed that too.... they'll say anything to make UND appear inferior I guess.

  8. So whoever said this team is regressing is that still true?

I personally never said that, but I'd like to see a road win by this team some time this season, hopefully this win was what they needed to get their heads on straight and make a late season push. But anyways, great win by UND!! Both teams looked ugly (lots of missed layups by both teams and free throws by UND), but UND came out ahead. I think Huff and Webb combined for 2 pts and we still got the win, not something I'd expect as those 2 are typically a huge part of the offense. BREKKE STEPPED UP HUGE TO START THE GAME!!

  9. I say signing the petition & passing the law will bring it forward faster & get the sheep to whine & cry enough & if SL wins maybe they will even push the Admin. to do the right thing & change the name to Spirit Lake Sioux - if not even if Spirit Lake wins I fear UND Admin. will say it's too late & keep the scared sheep whining & crying to change the name baaa baaa baaa

  10. I was horrified today to find that the Sioux are averaging less than 1,600 per game for men's basketball attendance.

I've been told many times on this site that when UND starts winning that attendance will rise. North Dakota nearly won 20 games last season, made the post season, hasn't lost at home this year, and is still getting fewer fans to the games than they did in the 1940's...................

I can't remember who we were playing but I believe we lost the next home game after beating Montana. As far as I know that's the only one this year though so your post still makes a good point.

  11. Exactly my point green team. UND BIZ or whatever your screen name is; it's not about a man crush at all. You people on here criticize this kid in every forum. It's getting to the point where people are looking for things to point out. Like green team said, alllll of these young men make mistakes and take bad shots, but we only seem to focus on Huff. The kid is a scorer, every shot he takes won't be a good one. Give him credit for playing aggressively offensively. If he took 3 shots a game, you people will complain. The kid had 22 points @ New Mexico and 8 rebounds and only 2 turnovers. I'm just waiting for people find something negative to say about this one. Not to be negative like you all, but we never point Webb's turnovers, Brekkes lack of rebounding. So as far as a man crush, I'll take that, and I won't let go. When you become relevant let me know please.

Oh now you hurt my feelings :silly: I hope you're at least able to get something out of being the loser who follows the one athletic kid he knows around campus acting like he's your best friend

I think the reason we focus on Huff's poor play is because we know he has the talent to be a great player, but his mind/ego are getting in the way. This makes us angry because if he played to what we believe is his potential, UND would be a much better team and would be winning more games (or at least one on the road maybe). From some of your previous posts stating that Huff is the best player UND has ever seen, it would appear that you don't even know who Jerome Beasley is. Therefore, I conclude that you are 1. new to UND and 2. not very knowledgable about UND basketball.

  12. Almost all the big-time schools are members of the FBS. At least we do get an opportunity to play against them. I do believe that if one of the big guys in California, such as USC, UCLA, or Cal started a hockey team, they'd end up being better than teams like UND or Maine, or Saint Cloud. Off topic, but I wish hockey forced guys to stay until after their junior year like football.

Appalachian State (everyone knows of them now)

    Villanova

    Georgetown

Why would the teams from California be better at hockey than Minnesota, Michigan, Boston College, or even Ohio St??? That's basically what you're saying when you say they'd be better than UND. Appalachian St..... oh yeah they're that team that upset somebody like 4 years ago right??? Yeah I can see why the recruits must just be swarming around that place now :silly: Georgetown and Villanova have football teams?? I just figured they were Bball-only schools.

  13. I wasn't ripping on him. Just don't want him to throw up threes when he isn't open. I agree he has been playing well. So settle down.

UNDsportsFanatic has a pretty serious man-crush on Huff. You just need to let it go.... regardless of how many shots the guy forces.

  14. Let's face it. Most recruits are hoping the very top schools will offer. Or every one wants a better offer if possible. We have a great schedule next year and the foundation of a very good football team. His comment sounds goofy but it doesn't mean he doesn't want to come here. He wouldn't have commited if he didn't want to be here. It also doesn't mean he isn't a good guy or will be very good for us. He could of used a better choice of words though. I am sure he wanted to go where he could play right away and also have a chance to win. It could be a great fit. I im sure our game in Fresno last year went a long way towards getting him.

Based on his Twitter it appears he doesn't want to come here. Looks like his dad is pushing him to come here and now it's too late to change his mind. His "bruhs" (bros (friends)) are suggesting he transfer out after 1 year. :glare:
