  1. To those of you who insist this will kill sports at UND.... because you have been such condescending jerks about this, I can't wait to rub your noses in it after you've been proven wrong.

I hope you're right Dave, unfortunately I know you're wrong. If you don't think home-field advantage is important for the success of the football team, then you don't know anything about football...

  2. What are you basing that on? If he isn't up with the big club for good by January I'll be surprised.

I think people are basing their opinions on the fact Nelson wasn't nearly as dominant as Frattin, Oshie, and Zajac, much less Toews and Parise. I feel their opinions are justified, as he is not strong enough yet (Forbort and Kristo are also not powerful enough with the puck, in my opinion) for the NHL. 1 more year with UND would be great (would have been great) for all 3 of them. Perhaps he will prove us wrong.... only time will tell. Regardless, good luck to him as he pursues his future career.

  3. And maybe you shouldn't put yourself in Pot-Kettle-Black situations. You come on here making declarative statements that you just cannot back up. And nice not showing any concern for Bison fans that don't live in The Center of the Known Universe (a.k.a. Fargo). The world is getting to be a smaller place, but for fans of our sport, it's becoming bigger and harder to navigate every year.

    There aren't any.....

  4. Who wants to bet that Shepherd and Hunt are in their room realizing they missed at least a minor (if not a penalty shot) and are deciding how many penalties to call on Union to start the second?

I predict the next three are on Union.

especially now that they're up 2

  5. I cannot disagree with your sentiment. I guess it would be more pragmatic of me to just let it go.

But if we are going to be realists about this situation then lets be honest about the future of Sioux/North Dakota college hockey. When you consider the move to the NCHC in conjunction with the Fighting Sioux name abolishment a pragmatic view of the programs future suggests the very real possibility of a significant diminishment of the currently prestige we all enjoy.

    If one would choose to deny this truth much in the same way you point out my denial regarding faith in people then I will give an example to illustrate the reality of this possibility;

Since I blame Myles Brand for this who debacle I will use the Indiana basketball program as my example. Indiana used to be a Nationally respected college basketball powerhouse. After Brand rammed his fist into the heart of the program it was over. Now Indiana basketball is just another team.

If you all don't think it can happen to the Fighting Sioux ya best be thinking again, just like Sicatoca helped me do here today...

I agree that UND hockey may be approching a crossroads, where things could take a dramatic turn. However, I'd attribute it almost entirely to the conference change. Losing Minnesota and Wisconsin and not getting Notre Dame (not that any of it was UND's fault) could prove very damaging. Regardless of what we like to think of UND's superiority, we are still a school with less national recognition (beyond hockey at least).

  6. it doesn't matter if the Sioux Tribe will win the lawsuit. what matters is that they are suing the NCAA. that is the point. how we win is we get that out into the consciousness of american society. there in lies OUR victory.

I hope you are victorious in your quest. However, I don't understand why this can't be done without causing harm (sanctions) to UND.

  7. ...ahhhhh no you don't.

    Yes, he does.

    ....ahhhhhh no you don't

    Yes, he does.

If the NAACP was suing the NCAA because of the NCAAs position against the Confederate flag this would be a good analogy, or "precedent" but since the NAACP is in fact not suing the NCAA your analogy/precedent is woelfully nongermane.

I wasn't aware the NAACP had entered the Sioux nickname situation on the side of the save the nickname crowd.

How about asking a different question, Ask what we COULD do to effectuate a change in their policy? ie diplomancy. Crazy concept huh? We all know we have not done a goddam thing in this regard. Why not? We all believe very strongly that keeping the name is right thing to do ethically, morally, yada yada yada.. so why are we not going to these universities hand in hand with the Spirit Lake Sioux and working it. Lord knows the anti-name crowd worked the hell out of it with about six activists, right? Why not try?? Minnesota and Wisconsin owe us some respect! They bailed on generations of some of the most notorious rivalries in all of college sports. They should be saying that out of respect for our relationship, history and the passionate feelings of the Sioux people they are going to defer this debate and conflict to others and not take such a stand as to condem our institution in such a mannor.

You AND others in the anti-fight to save the name crowd believe the future is set in stone if we continue the fight by resisting the NCAA by making the name law.

I believe that the approach I mentioned has great promise, if tried.

How sure are you that I am wrong?.

Apparently you're new here, as diplomacy has been the attempt for the last 7 years and the NCAA hasn't changed their policy to allow UND to keep the name.

    ....ahhhhhh no you don't

    He really does....

  8. Ira I have never been for hurting UND - it is not going to hurt us significantly to follow the agreement - Just don't wear the Logo - we can afford to purchase generic helmets & uniforms - what the crowd does or the media does is not our problem

The Sioux Name will never die to Hockey Fans any hope of keeping it is worth doing

Since the Fighting Sioux won't be playing this weekend, who will you cheer for??

Oh wait, you can still cheer for them without the name.....

  9. I've covered this already:

    Thu: better seed, white jersey

Fri: all business, business suits, black jerseys

Sat: St. Patrick's Day, green jersey

The black jerseys haven't held much magic for UND this season though.... ???

  10. SL not getting its way with the NDSC makes it easier for the NCAA to claim that SL has no part in the settlement between the State and the NCAA.

Hence, SL should've focused on its lawsuit against the NC$$, rather than get sidetracked trying to hurt UND.

  11. From my vantage point, it looked like two Gopher fans pulled the jersey off the Sioux fan from behind. Then they wrap him up and when he gets free, he pops one of the Goofy fans. I didn't see him drop but he may have. What I DID see was a few minutes later security escorted the two Gopher fans out, while the Sioux fan remained to watch the rest of the game.

Here's the GPL (maroon and yellow glasses) version of events...

I was there. This is what happened from what I saw, there were like 10 gopher fans sitting 5 in one row and 5 in the row below it. They were there for the afternoon game too. Fairly harmless adults, usually cheering against DU & UND. Then for the UND game there were these UND fans sitting in front of them. They would stand up, face the Gopher fans, and try to start UND cheers by screaming and waving their arms in their faces. It was only a matter of time.... The UND fan got his jersey ripped off and they just went at it for a couple minutes. There could have been more to the story but this is what I saw.

EDIT: Oh, and the Gopher fans and the UND fans got kicked out. Crowd cheered for the Gopher guy getting kicked out.

  12. That is a moot point because I don't think the SL lawsuit will fail. They'll win easily and the NCAA will have no choice but to go back on their policy. You can't cower in fear of the bully, you have to stand up to the bully and punch him in the mouth.

They didn't even bother taking the time to check the spelling and grammar of their filing. I don't think the lawsuit has a chance. I wish I was wrong, but I can't simply put my head in the sand and say SL will win in their lawsuit. At most, SL comes away with some settlement $$, which is probably what this is all about for them anyways.
