Rumor on GPL Is that Spicer is going to UMD

If Brad's reporting is correct and the money came from the Engelstad Foundation (KEM), then good for UND on getting her to give us money again. If it actually came from the REA Foundation, it's further evidence of the arena management spending what should be UND's money in a way that may not be the most efficient or effective for the university.

Although I never made it to the one in GF, I actually like Sickies in Bismarck. Good wings, beer, and enclosed "patio" area. Hopefully the new restaurant will be what the Whitey's location needs. Blue Moose food, outside of the spinach queso, really isn't very good anymore, but it still seems to be packed most nights. Not sure why the Whitey's building can't stay full.... with the theater, greenway, and Cabela's right there, it shouldn't really be a traffic issue. Maybe parking + the space is too big?

So here's what we have. Scholarships (full ride for some), full cost of attendance, NIL and now change teams at will. OK, slight exaggeration on the last one. Is the death of amateur athletics at the college level imminent, or has it already happened and I missed it?
Death by a thousand cuts.

I usually wish players luck if they leave but I won’t with Bruns, I hope we beat the hell out of them when we play the coyotes, get the football team qued up when the coyotes are in grand forks , I’m sure they can come up with some good sayings for Bruns
Kid gloves can definitely be removed when dealing with him.

The city’s side of the deal represents about $96.5 million in spending, which spans engineering and construction and more as the city prepares to link the plant to its infrastructure grid — a major undertaking that will mean road improvements and massive water infrastructure upgrades. City Hall has pointed out that roughly $41 million will be paid for by state loans, COVID funds, special assessments and more; the remaining $55 million would be recouped over decades of utility costs to Fufeng Group, city leaders say.
No mention of who repays the state loans, but it looks like most of the infrastructure costs will not be paid by the local government at least. If other local businesses/individuals are hit by the special assessments (and I assume they are), I can understand them being very upset about the project.
QuoteIn all, those tax breaks will discount taxes 90% on the new construction during the first 10 years, then 75% in the following 10.
I support some limited property tax breaks, but 20 years of +75%, to me, is excessive. With that said, this project should greatly benefit Grand Forks and the state.

That project would need to bring a better natural gas supply in from the west. That would attract more industry and jobs. The nat-gas supply would be the biggest boon to the city.
But from what I hear the corn plant project is dying of its own making, not anything the locals may be doing.
The state has already allocated $150 million for the pipeline, with plans to give another $150 million in 2023, so it sounds like that part is happening.

Not sure if this was posted prior but it appears UND has signed a home/home with Idaho for 2027/28.
Grand Forks first. I like that.

Sounds like UND has offered the guard that transferred out of U Mary.
6'3" 215# guard. Looks like he also holds an offer from D1 Charleston Southern. Scored 42 points against NSIC regular season champs UMD in the playoffs.

Will he get credit if phase II goes up in his tenure?
If it's a donation, yes. If it's financed by the REA/students, no.

this is news to me too......i thought playmakers was a restaurant owned by a bison fan with deep pockets...i guess i was clueless as to what playmakers means to ndac.
Playmakers gambling in the Canad doesn't benefit ndsu in any way. It goes to the LISTEN Center in Grand Forks.

Speaking of gambling, does UND get any of the money from playmakers gambling? If not, what charity does that money go to? And if not, does UND or NDSU get any money from local gambling, besides 50/50 drawings?
UND doesn't get anything from Playmakers gambling, as I believe the LISTEN Center is the nonprofit there. UND and the foundation aren't involved in charitable gambling, as it'd be an ugly look to take money away from organizations helping kids and other individuals with mental and physical disabilities.
NDSU having no such qualms, TeamMakers is a big player in the charitable gambling scene in Fargo.
