I believe since the schools are in the state constitution, it would be up up to a vote of the people.  Don’t have to worry about the governor or their position. its about collecting enough signatures and winning a vote. Communities of significant population will most likely resolutely vote against as those institutions are considerable economic drivers in their communities like Dickinson, Minot, Valley City, Wahpeton, etc.

Agreed that a constitutional amendment vote would likely fail, but Mayville and Bottineau should both be closed.  Williston, Bismarck, and Lake Region (Devils Lake) are not in the constitution, but of those, only Devils Lakes could even be considered for closure at this point.

Isn't there s law in ND that prevents these storys identifying the victim??

    like Marcy's law or something?

It's got to traumatizing to have all this published about oneself

It looks like the paper did avoid using her name, but I suppose it's obvious to those who know them.  There is quite a bit of detail in there for a domestic violence story, with the hospital's report to the PD, victim's statement, etc.  Hopefully it doesn't discourage future victims from seeking care.

I think Midco is going to go after the CCHA streaming rights.  As far as I can tell, the CCHA contract with Flo expires at the end of this year, and Midco would probably like the streaming rights to Augie games if they are going to be producing and broadcasting them.  There are a bunch of other synergies as well.  This would align with their comments about investing in streaming.
CCHA announces streaming partnership, beginning with 2021-2022 season
CCHA launches all-new CCHA TV on FloSports (first paragraph says 3 season)

I'm trying to think of other potential leagues, but the MVFC, MIAC, and NSIC just announced new streaming deals of their own, in August 2023.  Curious about the NCHC, but I'm not sure a Midco deal would make sense, financially, for the NCHC.  NCHC.TV seems to be doing well well, but perhaps a deal with Midco would allow the other schools to siphon off some of the streaming revenue that UND is currently generating through the existing NCHC.TV arrangement, which sends about 85% of revenue to member schools based on fan affiliation.

Streaming for both the CCHA and NCHC is $30 a month, 3 times the price of Midco, so I'm curious how that would be handled.

It'd be great to see some advertisements on NCHC.TV and cut the cost a bit.

Yet my cable/internet bill is supposed to go up $30/month later this spring.....after it just went up a few bucks last month.

I switched to Verizon.  Works just fine for streaming (don't know about gaming) and saved me $30 per month.

But the university still gets credit in the state funding formula as there is no differentiator in regards to enrollment count in said formula?

Correct.  No change in state funding for credits the institution is charging reduced or no tuition and fees for.

In fairness, and because media isn't always fair nor accurate, were these waivers to students and the cost covered by State/NDSU funds or by outside (NDSU Alumni) sources? Who's paying the actual costs.

Then again, if NDSU Alumni covered the costs wouldn't that be "scholarships" not waivers so maybe there's the answer.

If it's $10M in waivers by NDSU (to arguably buy students) that's a really big number compared to UND even if you include UND's Alston funding and should be considered in the light, as stated, namely "So NDSU grants $10 million more than UND in tuition waviers, has a budget mess, and then received $5 million from the state with no strings attached."

Waivers are reductions in revenue.  There is no donation associated with them.

  7. Back in the day the teachers taught one lesson plan for the entire class.  Now they have individualized education programs (IEPs) that target each individual student.  That plus less respectful and more poorly behaved students means the teachers need as many helpers/paras in the classroom as they can get.

Just seems like there are too many cooks in the kitchen with the Alumni Association, Champions Club, Athletic Department, and the REA for things to be run efficiently.

It certainly has the appearance of a bloated mess.

I get it and have been right with you.  Just telling you what I have heard and hoping for a turnaround.  Coaching staff isn’t going anywhere, so hoping a shakeup in mentality is there.  Without a mass exodus, the players apparently have much less discontent than Most of this blog does.  I am Glad to see we don’t have too many key players going into the portal.  Now we need to pick up some instant help in multiple positions on d and an o lineman or 2 and see if the message was actually received and efforts being made.  I still struggle in evaluating whether the individual talent on d was that bad or our schemes were atrocious.  I don’t think individual talent can explain our third and long results over and over again…

Our DL couldn't get to the QB and the DBs lost almost every jump ball challenge throughout the season.  I'm not saying they're incapable, but they were often in a position to make a play that wasn't made this year.  Hopefully another offseason of weights and a bad taste in their mouth from the way the season ended is enough, along with some scheme changes, to cut the 3rd and 20+ conversion rate under 15% next year.

If a business pays a player to do an appearance or do a commercial for them, is it not deductible for the business as payroll or an advertising expense?

Yes, it would be deductible for a business.

    Agree with 1.

As for 2., remember the FCS is very top heavy. The average FCS team is not a good benchmark for UND due to how watered down the bottom half is. You essentially stated that with the xDSU statement. Only around 5-10 programs (if not less) are true championship contender each season in the FCS.

Now, how does Chaves view this? No clue. Probably content based on previous actions. Actions speak louder than words.

What were your thoughts on #3?

    1) UND outrushes NDSU 205-150

    2) ST were great and were an absolute game changer (words that probably haven't been posted on this site in years)

Glad we were able to overcome not being within 50 rushing yards of ndsu ;)

constitution has them being 4 years?

Valley City, Mayville, Minot, and Dickinson are in the constitution as "normal schools" and normal schools were defined as teacher colleges.  Teaching requires a 4-year degree, so at least by my interpretation they constitutionally must remain providers of baccalaureate teaching degrees.  Now, they have certainly expanded well beyond that mission, resulting in significant duplication across the university system.  That can and should be addressed.

I was thinking that Bresciani was still there.  How long has Cook been there?  Is he more likable than his predecessor or the Snake oil salesman?

I think he started summer 2022.  He's much better so far.
