Wouldn't it be more of an Ag School moniker?

Off the wall (politically acceptable?) idea incorporating the UND academic logo - Wildfire. A quick search does not reveal any teams with Fire, Prairie Fire or Wildfire nickname. Do not like Flames, even though Calgary and Liberty U (shouldn't their women's teams be the Liberty Bells or even Belles?) use it. Still like Roughriders and Wolves better. Cavalry or Pony Express are better than most. Nokotas is unique, even though some think it is too repetitive. Owls are a fierce bird of prey (Eagles Is the most widely used nickname). Really doubt anything like Warriors, Arrows or Big Cocks will gain any traction, although Aeros would give a nod to the aerospace program. Don't think the PC crowd (ROK) will allow Fighting anything. The tenor of the newspaper articles linked on these forums gives me hope that Kelly will not be picking the name out of thin air, however still fear that it will be some bland color, weather related or other PC approved name. Edit; another off the wall thought... Nickels and use the old logo inside a circle ?

Not a recipe for success on the boards. Assists reveal a need for team-oriented focus.

Now that there is a playoff of sorts, maybe the annual genuflecting to an SEC team will come to an end. Just a rant - I am so tired of hearing that the SEC is the be-all, end-all, only conference that ESPN thinks should be given national football championships.

The reward for playing (and even losing to) quality(?) teams.

Yeah, he said he had a kid at UND a while back too, iirc.

The Camellia Bowl, at one time, was the de-facto D II championship game before there were playoffs.

Actually, ss.com has been quite supportive and complimentary of the Bison national championships the past 3 years, especially considering the copious amount of trolling done by you and your cohorts. Even though several ss posters may root against NDSU, there has been an underlying appreciation for what the Bison have accomplished.

Hey Gundy, can you help out the Bizun who failed coloring class? ?

Wow, sorry CAS, but gotta play spelling police here. An attorney should be able to spell "admittedly" correctly, or at least believe the spell-check program when it tries to fix it for him. Seems like you have a lot of pent-up issues that have built up during your brief absence from ss.com. On the colored font idea, maybe ss.com should use that yellow color Bison fans are so fond of to alert them to sarcasm.

^^^ this^^^ ^^^ and this ^^^ How good a recruiter is Jones when his recruits refuse to follow his coaching? Mussman v1.2 anyone? But it needs to start at the top. UND has a PC agenda pushing President and an ineffective AD. Say what you want about Bresciani and Taylor, they have/had a much deeper commitment to the success of the Bison getting into the nation spotlight. FCS Championships, March Madness appearances and even ESPN Game Day, games on ESPN's main network, Fox Sports 1 have put Fargo University into the spotlight more than UND's consecutive Frozen Four appearances (even if they had won one). Change needs to start at the top.

Kinda looks like your avatar Sica.

Curious... Where?

Very interesting.

Or, according to Mrilyn Haggerty, the Olive Garden.

Not a Jones fan, but... He is one of, if not the lowest paid DI bb coaches. He has to recruit to a team that plays third fiddle, not only to football, but to hockey during the same time of year. In your own statement, you acknowledge that UND was close to the dance last year and that WSU is very tough. Jones has an extremely difficult task. Would like to see better results, however, not sure even Ben Jacobson could do any better. Understand your frustration/impatience Darrell, but fo what he has to work with, can't see the UND administration firing Jones at this point.

Pretty much sums up a lot of voting - polls, all conference, maybe even tournament seedings.

So, you are an Eastern Michigan fan, Fetch? ?

Now THAT is FUNNY!

FCS Playoff picture getting interesting going into the final weekend... Montana has 4 losses going into Bozeman. Would they be included in the playoffs if they lose to MSU? If they win, both MSU and the Grizzlies should be in the playoffs. Idaho State has 4 losses (Utah, Utah State, Eastern Washington and Montana State) heading into Weber. The Bengals should make the playoffs with a win. Northern Arizona now has 4 losses heading to Cedar City to take on Southern Utah. If all three of these teams win, would 5 Big Sky teams be invited to the. Playoffs? If not, who would be left out? (if the Grizzlies lose to MSU, they will probably not make it) In the MVFC, Northern Iowa has 4 losses. They are playing Missouri State. South Dakota State plays South Dakota. Indiana State plays Western Illinois. The one With the toughest opponent next weekend is Youngstown State, who play NDSU. So the MVFC could have a 4 loss team left out of the playoffs as well. If all the "favorites" win next weekend, Eastern Washington, Montana State, Idaho State and Northern Arizona would all have 4 losses or less on the season; and in the MVFC, the selection committee would have NDSU, Illinois State, Northern Iowa, SDSU, and Indiana State in the same situation. If Montana beats Montana State and/or Youngstown beats NDSU, add one to each conference. Guessing that a max of 4 from each conference gets playoff invites, there could be as many as 3 teams between these 2 conferences that watch the playoffs with 4 losses on the season. UND still has a ways to go to join this group, but yesterday showed that Coach Schweigert has the team headed in the right direction. Even Rudolph's play calling didn't look so bad with short fields given to the offense by a great defense and Garman having the great game he had. Maybe a little too conservative with the lead and only 11 pass attempts, but it worked. They can finish this year anywhere from tied for 7th in the conference to tied for last (both would require Davis beating Sacramento), pending the outcome of the Northern Colorado game, which now feels very winnable.

If it was not a politically correct left wing academic in charge of this process, one would have to wonder if this would be the right time to push back against the NCAA and their dictatorial edict.

Who are you trying to kid. ALL polls are a joke - FBS, FCS, BB, Hockey. How many voters have really seen all the teams they are voting for actually play? It's a beauty contest, mostly based on past performance with a little current won-loss record sprinkled on. Northern Iowa, Montana, and eventually NDSU get votes because they are perennially toward the top of their conferences, even if they have more losses than some of the other teams in the same as well as other conferences. SEC teams in FBS, B1G teams in BB... I think you get my drift. What really matters, especially in FCS football, BB and hockey, is who wins the playoffs at the end of the season, not who leads the poll in week 10. Why don't you just grab some popcorn and chill?

Or a weak secondary that is being exploited. Maybe teams are not running much because they are having limited success on the ground but can get plenty of yards in the air.
