I would like a relatively injury free year. Seems past couple of seasons a key starter was hurt early and never made it back.

This... worry about cheap shots in the 2nd game...

... Dixie St and California Baptist don’t count.  The WAC needs to find new fully DI schools by next summer...

Could/would the WAC apply for an extension like the Summit did in anticipation of Dixie and Cal Baptist completing their transition, giving them the extra time they need?

  3. Asking because I did not stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night...

Would it be possible to bring the MVFC in under the Summit League? Does the MVC have enough non-football sports to no be threatened with loss of auto bids? If I recall correctly, the MVFC is not actually a league under the MVC. Would the MVC schools be willing to allow the MVFC to become a Summit conference to stabilize the situation?

Maybe, but I guess I'm really concerned about NT.  And I think we're thin at LB, S, T, and RB.  I also don't have much confidence in Kett at QB, as his pocket awareness and confidence were pretty bad last year.  Hopefully the new offense fixes that last one.

Is Freund locked in on Ketteringham? Will that mean there is already no competition for the starting QB position? That might be the first indication of Schweigert's unwillingness to adapt.

    Seattle

    Denver

Great line-up! That would be sweet. Now get everyone to cooperate.

The new WAC could become a significant mid-major player.

However, still not convinced that UND and the rest of these new WAC schools should leave FCS. Playing football games on a Tuesday or Wednesday for the chance to play in the Idaho Potato Bowl or the Doosan Snow Bowl the second week of December doesn't seem like it will be any more significant than playing for the FCS championship.

Maybe someone should start a thread "SHOULD UND go FBS?"... instead of UND and The Big Sky could go FBS

Knew someone on that committee and basically what Kennedy sold to the committee was not what we got once he got the job. The person I know was not very happy about things after the fact. Hopefully UND can get a better person this go around.

Sounds like a politician and campaign promises... hmmm...

I would venture to say it would be very big news if it was JUST caffeine. Idk if the media knows or not, but the Fargo media would love to start an outrage about how an NDSU player got his career derailed by having too much caffeine in his system. The NCAA is an easy target and a local kid losing his last year of eligibility over caffeine would get the people riled up.

I suspect NDSU and the family are content to not talk about it anymore.

JohnBoy has had some good posts over the years. This might be one of his best.

The question hasn’t been asked by any member of media (even in Montana), if the Montanas would prefer the Summit over the Big Sky if natural partners such as Idaho, EWU and Weber St were included too.

Back in the late 70’s, the Montanas were hot for the NoDaks to be conference rivals but were outvoted.

Maybe because the Big Sky is the Montana's conference. They are the center of the conference. Not geographically, but in power.

    The Summit should sponsor football.

It’s rather incredible that they don’t.  Five conference schools spend major dollars on it, but the Summit doesn’t have anything to do with it.  They put so much energy into getting more baseball and men’s soccer teams, which are needed for survival, and only one more fb team, those baseball and men’s soccer concerns can go away.

So, back to Northern Colorado? Or Augustana with football? Who else would be a possibility? New Mexico State? Would have to go FBS for NMSU.

Montanas, Idaho, EWash... Can they really be talked out of the Big Sky? Seems really doubtful.

Might I call that a tad strong. UMKC is what it is.

Is UMKC called the Kangaroos because they keep hopping around conferences?

At least UMKC is an established D-I school. (No transition period like Augustana or St Thomas will have)

The Defense will play big! You have the best Secondary in the conference! They will fill the gap left open by seniors left. UND finishes 10-1 with a Victory over NDSU! Not a Surprise win! Nor upset! UND will beat NDSU straight up! I said that!! Your Defense will step up and will be respected!! Mason is going to lead the Charge!! And They will follow his lead! UND has no Stress! People counting them out already!! 10-1

I like the way you think

What exactly are you suggesting? Tough to tell with your veil of passive aggression.

No p.a.  Genuinely appreciate your response. As a dumb internet dweeb, I didn't really understand your comment about only 1 FB in the class. Your answer tells me that Bubba, with a run-first offense, is losing recruiting battles with schools at UND's level.

The point of my original comment was that the Hawks are not getting good rb's and were willing to take on a less-study focused student because they can't get the rb's that have both good scholar records and D-I level football talent. I think we are on the same page, but did not express myself clearly.

Again, I sincerely appreciate your answer. Thank you Geaux

I did not say they didn’t offer more than one back. There are plenty of good backs to go around. My opinion, with loads of hindsight, is that we should have brought in two hs backs in that class.

So Bubba needs to be better at winning the recruiting battles. That makes sense. Thank you for your insights Geaux

I just think it was unwise to have one rb recruit in a class be a guy with a known academic risk. Especially with the impending graduation of two great backs.

Are you saying UND did not offer any other rb's?

With UND's relative (lack of) success vs the XDSU's, wouldn't the Hawks have to go out on the limb with some recruits to revive the program with a 'project' or two?

but, you were a player, so you would have a better grasp of the realities of the situation than I do

  15. Understand the lower cost concept, but Summit doesn't sponsor men's VB. I guess that is what you mean.
I think that cutting baseball was to set the stage to drop women's ice hockey, but feels short-sighted in light of UND's move to the autobid-sport-challenged Summit League. The loss of any one of several schools in the conference will be huge. Even the prospect of NDSU leaving can be argued, because they would jump if they get an invitation to another conference.
Unless your projections of a hybrid conference with the better Big Sky schools comes to fruition, the Summit has to be looking to bolster its membership with the likes of UMKC (soccer) and Northern Colorado (baseball and football, but there will likely be resistance to forming a football confer ence outside the MVFC). KC already left the Summit and Denver will likely oppose UNC, so those possibility of those additions feels remote. The Wisconsin schools are also a possibility, but unlikely.
It just seems that, historically, Douple and the Summit Presidents are recactionary, not proactive. The transient history of the conference is disconcerting until more than the core of the four Dakota schools add more stability among more members. It seems that there is talk every year about PUFW, ORU, Denver and even Omaha leaving or WIU closing. The Summit will always have this issue. Augustana will probably be added, St Thomas is several years away from D-I. Duluth, Mankato or any other D-II move-up will also have transition times. Will it have to become NCC 2.0 or can the Montanas really be convinced to form a Great North conference?
