  1. Yes...He's been up and down off that line a few times this year with Elias' illness.

I was watching the game too and it was great to hear them give props to UND. At one point, they identified "North Dakota product David Hale" and a few seconds later, after Hale laid a big check in the Devil's defensive zone said "That's how they do it in Grand Forks"... very cool. I love Center Ice...

  2. We'll be there. Staying at the Windham (across the river from the Bradley Center) with the same group as last year. Hopefully, there will be a central hotel like we had last year (last year it was the crowne plaza, this year the Radisson???)...See you all there...

  3. Toews is a very young kid there. I don't see him playing in the NHL at 18 years old.

I might be inclined to agree with the Johnson sentiment above, except that the Pens are looking for an immediate improvement and the D position usually takes a few more years to develop, with notable exceptions (Pheneuf (sp??) being the most notable). If they take Toews, maybe the saving grace is his age... Wasn't Crosby 17 when he started?;)

Also, NHL central scouting has Toews at 3, whereas another service has him at 2, ahead of Kessel.

  4. Apparently I was on the jumbo-tron several times this weekend in addition to being on FSN and ESPN2. I was wearing a white #19 jersey with my name on the back. Was my bald head visible?

    I didn't see the Forum picture...got a link?

That was a bald spot? I thought it was a camera flash or something directly behind and above your head...that explains it... ;)

  5. This quote was just posted on Fox Sports by Spector. He's talking about the Pens and rebuilding...

The Penguins stand a good chance of landing the first overall pick in this year's draft, where they could get a shot at such top prospects as Phil Kessel, Johnathan Toews, Jordan Staal (brother of the Hurricanes Eric Staal), Michael Frolik or Niklas Backstrom.

I get a little uneasy about Toews being such a high pick (as I stated above). I predict that if the Pens choose first, they will take Toews because he already has an established relationship with Crosby...

  6. I saw him at the arena on Saturday night and do give him points for actually wearing that jersey. Right on the button, though...priceless. Someone needs to make some artwork out of that:

Gas and hotel money to Grand Forks: $150

    Tickets to Western Regional: $63

Sitting in center-ice seats watching the Sioux play Holy Cross while your team is already back in Minneapolis: Priceless

    ;)

  7. Well, if the track record for first and second overall picks holds (and Kessel is actually picked one or two overall), Kessel will not be back. He did well at UM and probably has gone as far as he can there...IMHO, Toews is on the bubble and if he's chosen two or three, he might move on too...I hope not...

  8. Hey MafiaMan, are you the guy with the prpich jersey that was on the big screen?

Also, the photograph on yesterdays forum sports page with the lone gopher fan sitting with his hands folded among a throng of UND faithful is priceless. He's right behind the sioux bench in first row...funny...

  9. The only thing I thought about Earl was that he was the only one cramping and crawling and was putting on quite a show. Is he that much under-conditioned compared to the other 37 guys on the ice??? And the television people making it a story. To me, it's like covering a guy that falls over at mile 23 of a marathon...tough bounce... better train harder next time fella...

I did note however that Earl was also the only one with his helmet off (initially) so that everyone could see him. I'm sure he knew the cameras were on him...another showboat move...I found myself begging him to put his helmet back on or shave his *** and walk backwards...

  10. I've had FF tickets for months so watching the Sioux will be sweet. Did anyone else notice that Stafford seemed to be skating with difficulty tonight (last night)? He just seemed a bit slow on the puck...maybe it's just me.

  11. I'll be interested to see the "Red Star" today to see what they say about the Holy Cross debacle...all I know is, if the Gopher fans react as they did in Columbus last year, they will all be gone by about 10 this morning...So here is the official announcement: GRAND FORKS HAS BEEN DECLARED A RODENT-FREE ZONE....woohoooooo.....

    Go Sioux....

  12. When I made my original comment regarding Gopher Hockey v. Gopher Football, I was not thinking about attendance, I was talking about "buzz". Most years, the minute the puck drops at Mariucci, the city stops talking about football and focuses on a positive team.

As to Bison attendance, game for game, it isn't close to UND Hockey, especially when you factor in that they basically give away the tickets, even for the big games. Heck, I remember them selling tickets for something like 5 for $1.00 so they could fill the Fargodome for the first D1-AA game...

Anyway, UND is playing teams this weekend that the Bison can only dream about playing consistently, year in, year out. That's good enough for me.

    Go Sioux...

  13. This all stems from NDSU's agreement to play UofM in football next year. So let's ask this question? Is U of M football more popular than U of M Hockey? I think not. When was the last time U of M football was ranked #1 in the nation? There are many years they aren't #1 in the state.

So Bohl is biased toward football and that should be expected. But his program will not bring home the bacon at 1-AA and will never, ever surpass the popularity of Div 1 hockey at UND or anywhere else...

  14. Anyone else watch part of the CCHA tourney yesterday? What a joke. Joe Louis arena in Detroit was a mausoleum, even for the Michigan-Michigan State game. Compare that to the WCHA which set records in attendance in each of the first three games of the tournament. #1 league has the #1 fans (this is an average of course, as some WCHA teams -spelled Denver, don't appear to have fans). ;)

We commented on that last night too. The place was EMPTY. Rows and Rows of empty seats being broadcast around the country...No wonder kids want to play in ND or MN...

  15. I DVR'd the game and just finished watching...Ryan P is good, but how the heck do you leave him that alone in the slot four times in a row. I know it was on a man advantage, but leave someone else...and what a weak goal to win...

  16. Maybe this guy and 10 others could form a group that feels they have been harmed by the game, do a couple of protests where they pretend to represent the majority, get CBS on board for a spotlight segment on this behavior and eventually ask the NCAA to ban hockey as a hostile and abusive sport..

  17. I've heard from credible sources (cough DS) recently that there's been a lot of in-fighting in the men's locker room, mostly centered around stafford.

I think the "Injury" is BS, and he has taken himself off the team for the season, ready to sign with Buffalo.

I know I'm about to get flamed, but we'll all just have to wait and see.

Why would anyone flame you for this post??? I think that society in general and members on this board in particular cut slack to the mentally handicapped. I'm sure they won't make an exception here...

  18. Please don't discount this because I don't post on this board....BUT...I do have info.....Drew Stafford suffered an MCL injury and will NOT play at the WCHA Five if (when) the Sioux get there. The earliest he will come back is the Western Regional at The Ralph....Wish he would come back earlier, but my source is solid. It's too bad, but the truth. If the Sioux just play their game they will be fine......On another note..LB11...have fun in florida and The Stones concert......and SuperTrex...are you still the star of music and rock? (sorry guys (and girls)....inside joke) GO SIOUX!!!!!

Yes...still rockin'. I'll catch you at the West Regions and Milwaukee..
