  1. I think I understand the strategy now for the third period...have the 4th line (the only one that seems to be playing) grind them and beat them down for tomorrow night - put some welts and marks on them. In the meantime, the top lines are savings their legs so they can jump on the Gophers tomorrow night...I can't wait. The Sioux will be dominant...

  2. The Devils are up in the 3rd...Good to see some good sioux hockey on Channel 544 (Dish Network)...

I can't believe the other Sioux game tonight. I can't even watch it. Foyt will not see ice again at UND, but that's what happens when you are constantly second to the puck and start pressing. And Foyt is just one example. Watch the replay on the fifth goal again. Four UND players standing around while three Gophers are slapping away at the puck. I guess they don't dare defend their goal anymore.

The team looks completely uncoached and completely frozen by fear of making a mistake. No amount of yelling or peeling the walls will fix that...

  3. I think you missed the implied . Or else I missed yours.

    ???

I meant mine to be in fun. I should have edited because I realized that I sounded like an a-hole after I pushed the button...

I was hoping to score some tickets for the gopher series, but I'm sure I'll be down there in a bar somewhere instead. If they keeping playing this way, I'm leaving my jersey at home...

  4. You were there and I only listened to 2 periods on the radio. I think you are full of baloney.

So you actually saw all those passes being cut off in the neutral zone on your RADIO...that's some radio you have...

  5. I was at the game last night...I saw a team that was working, but one that had alot of difficulty with Harvard's trapping style of play. Over the past few years, not many UND teams have had success handling a trapping style - remember Denver in 2004 at regionals? I personally hate that style since it makes for a very boring, low-scoring game.

Anyway, I think last night's result was a reflection of the youth on the team (I know I was told not to say this) and an inability of the defensive players to carry the puck through the neutral zone. I have gone to all of the home games and watch nearly all of the away games and I have observed that, among the defensive corps, only Smaby and Lee can consistently carry the puck out of the Sioux zone and through the neutral zone. Has anyone else made this observation? And because of Harvard's style, very few passes went thru the neutral zone. So it got down to a "skate in and dump it". That is why only Stafford seemed to be effective on offense. I'm not sure where Zajac or Porter were last night... I know that Prpich was in the box, so I've accounted for him. Fabian is a big guy, but he didn't have the speed. He did win alot of his battles when he made it to the show. Spirko was fine, but he's not a power forward. My point is that if you're going to dump it in, you've got to get to it first or take it away. Stafford is great at this. The problem last night was that, at times, it appeared to be a "dump and then give only a half-hearted effort to get the puck" type of game for the Sioux. Many times it was "dump and a line change"...

To win tonight, they'll have to realize how much they have over Harvard in terms of size, speed and talent and actually use it to defeat the trap...Please comment on whether you think my comments are valid...

    Let's go Sioux...

  6. The best place to stay is the Hyatt downtown Mpls (13th and Nicollet Mall) and take a cab to the game and back. There's alot more to do downtown (and let's face it, you're there a couple of days and only at the rink a few hours). Plus, you don't have to drive, park, wait, etc...Use priceline for weekend rates...We've gone this route even without tickets and watched the game in one of the many sports bars downtown...it's a blast no matter where you are...especially if the Sioux get going early...It's just a fun weekend to be in the cities...

  7. Great post Stack ;) If anyone has an in I'd be willing to pay a premium for 3 tickets to Saturday's game.

    GO SIOUX, GO USA

I went to a few games there too. Those were the days. They'd throw the Sioux fans in the GA section and I hardly ever had a clear view of the goal. We used to go to the Old rink often to watch WCHA games, even non-Sioux games. I couldn't cheer for the dirty gophers, of course, but a guy could call out "pointers" like "Shoot the puck, Moron", etc. - The Gophers were famous for looking off a good shot opportunity in order to have a five pass, highlight reel goal... three-quarters of the time, they wouldn't get a shot...nothing has changed...

  8. Prpich played great as far as I was concerned. Stafford is working hard especially in the corners, etc., but was not dominant last night.

The picture on the front of the sports page of the Forum says it all - both of Stoa's skates are inside the crease and it appears that he his just beginning to come out, pushing against Lee. Whether he interfered with Parise is a question the photo does not answer, but I guess after seeing numerous goals disallowed over the years for crease violations by the Sioux, I can't believe they can't call games consistently.

The Sioux need to go hard tonight.

  9. Could there be anything more meaningless than this poll? As Larry says, Cornell hasn't played a game and is ranked above the Sioux, the Goofs, Denver??? I think it's great that the Eastern press has created this feel-good poll for Hockey East and CCHA participants...it helps erase their memories and ease the pain of last March and April and it distracts them from their search for the Bean Pot which is in a case in Grand Forks...

  10. Parise just got another goal tonight against the Panthers!!!!  By the way, has anybody noticed the Sioux Shop is carrying ZP jerseys. I picked mine up at Saturdays game.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Saw the goal. He had a very good game and after the game, the camera stayed on him and followed him off the ice...

Getting a dish was a good decision for a hockey fan...

  11. For what it's worth (not a heck of alot), I was VERY impressed with his ability to make plays happen. That pass on Saturday night was fantastic - threaded thru traffic directly on the stick while FLYING down the ice. It was also extremely unselfish...I'm sure the scouts in attendance (I understand there were several) were also very impressed...

Good to see the Sioux getting a few nods...

  12. I sit right behind the sioux bench, four rows up. I saw Spirko tonight in the bench entrance and he was not on crutches that I could tell. He was talking with some of the assistants, etc. and looked like he was just sitting as a precaution. I hope that is the case. Again, I did not see him on crutches..

  13. I would have a thought about it if it was on cable around here.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I'm in the process of fixing that - my dish will be up on Monday... it's cheaper and I'm just tired have having to beg cable one for programming. I got the 180 channel deal for about the cost of basic cable...

  14. Someone said this is the first time we have lost to MSU since 1979...I seem to recall that the 79-80 season was a pretty good one...

I'm not surprized at the results since they are just getting together. Heck, they have only have a few official practices. Play will be very inconsistent for a while, I'm sure, so be ready.

I hope Hakstal settles in on JPar as the goalie and doesn't go back and forth like last year. But after last year, I'm not going to question his coaching (I promise).

  15. How does UND fall "a decade behind" these guys? I guess I don't understand that point. NDSU has not been successful in finding a conference. So now they want to go all the way with football and pursue a D1A conference? With a 15000 seat venue??? I think not. I'm at ASU this weekend. 70,000 seats for football - that's what a D1A football stadium looks like.

In the meantime, I read good things about UND's athletic programs every day. Zach Parise will be a household name soon. So will Brandon Bochenski. Mike Commodore too. And Jim Kleinsauser, etc.... I'm sure the list a long one, but I digress.

Yes, I believe that UND should look at and eventually become a Division I school for all sports. I just don't like hearing the "well, at least we're ahead of UND" from NDSU fans everytime NDSU has a conference affiliation setback, mainly, because I don't think that is true. When UND pulls the trigger and goes D1, Both UND and NDSU will enter a conference together on nearly equal footing (albeit, NDSU has had more scholarships for a longer period, but except for football, they don't seem to be benefitting much from that advantage).

  16. graham kracker:

Your comments above serve as proof to all that you are most racist person posting on this site by far, bar none...if any of us posted the garbage that you post, in such a transparent attempt to distinguish our race as the superior race, we'd be banned from this board forever. But you get a free pass. Why, I'll never know...

For the good of all, including your people who don't share your obvious racial biases, please go away.

  17. You're right there LB...as a person stated a while back, America is becoming the land where the minority rules against the majority opinion.

I'm very tired of the Sioux name controversy. Sometimes I think it's time for all of us to just dust our feet off on this one and begin a new tradition. At other times, I want to fight like hell, just to rub their faces in it. But, if we end up doing something, I like using just plain old North Dakota with no nickname as was suggested by another on this board. Of course, I will always refer to them as the Fighting Sioux and so will everyone else. The NCAA can not take away our individual freedoms...

About the logos, we should just leave them. Hell, in 50 years, they will have historical significance as people try to figure out just what the hell a Sioux is...the soon to be forgotten tribe of the Dakotas...
