  1. The NHL most certainly did not want the new team to fail.

This may be the case study in how major pro sports expand in the future.

Make sure there is instant winning excitement, I believe MLB tried to do somewhat the same when the Marlins and Rockies where created but nothing like this.

One thing I see is that most expansions picked the players on the far fringes and just didnt have enough talent to compete these players being picked just under the bubble so to say of star players.... they have talent,

and never underestimate a group of skilled people who feel they were left abandoned by their organizations.

No way on a mascot.... but I'd be totally down for UND adopting an actual Hawk. Be especially awesome to have when the Minnesota Gophers visit Grand Forks. I still love the idea of someone throwing a live gopher on the ice and our Hawk swoops down from the REA rafters to tear the gopher apart. Nothing like a pregame ritual to get fans amped.

Thats not bad. Actually could be cool.

    I'd get begind that.

There is ZERO chance the committee will be creative enough to come up with that.

They've already paid the consulting company to fabricate the costume.

To put into context what kind of pathetic effort went into the design company gore that is the Fhawks logo.....

The damn costume contract cost the school 2/3 the price they paid for the intern effort on the logo.

  3. Set it up to play just outside the ralph in the soccer practice  fields to the NE... HSchool games all day then Sioux game inside at night.

Then in Bismarck on one of the maina bays...

Then Minot on the fair grounds...

Then Devils Lake.. on ...well the lake.... (No fish shanty within 50 feet of the rink tho)

Then Williston on a reclaimed oil pad...

Then Medora with the buttes in the background...  some tame elk along the glass.

Then rugby... a game at the center if the universe or continent or whatever it is now.

Then Grafton on the ... whatever place doesnt stink from the ethonal plant... or the Alco parking lot.. whichever.

Then Fargo on the..... water retention pond by Scheels??

  4. Putting students behind the goalie and letting the go a bit more nuts is the key me thinks

redesign the whole seating.. they have what 2 sections on lower 108-109 and three sections in upper. 307-308-309.

trade all of those for lower behind goalie. 104-105 and give them 303-306 up top.  Put the band maybe in top of 103 or 106 or first rows of 303.

    Really its worth a shot...

At least they kept the central valley instead of listing out Buxton Reynolds.

The MPCGHBRHNFSHP Ice Dawgs... for short.

Wonder where the kids from Cummings play tho?

Google is a wonderful thing. You literally have to live under a rock to not know who Klosterman is. He's probably one of UND's most famous alumni who's didn't play sports. At least top-10.

    https://www.usnews.com/education/blogs/college-flashback/2008/08/29/chuck-klosterman

Yes, although not in the way I anticipated. During college, I was involved with two distinct social groups: a collection of my eight or nine closest friends (who I spent every evening with) and another group of people I worked with at the student newspaper (the Dakota Student). Upon graduation, I assumed the totality of that first group would always remain in my life, because we had a really intense—almost unhealthy—relationship with each other. But that has only happened partially. I'm still in regular contact with half of that group, but the other half has completely disappeared. At this point, I don't even know where some of them live. I think what happens —probably to everybody—during college is that you forge all these unique, hyper deep friendships very quickly, because the day-to-day collegiate experience is constantly transformative, and everyone is incredibly open to thinking about weird thoughts and examining every detail of their life. Plus, everyone is always drunk, so you're often having meaningful, emotional conversations about the nature of existence and who you are as a person. It makes it feel like you're inventing the idea of friendship.

But then your life evolves, and you slowly realize that certain relationships were mostly based on the time and the place and the shared desire to be really close to anyone who seems to be similar to you. That's been something of a sad realization, and it probably explains why I like the movie Kicking and Screaming so much.

But sometimes the opposite happens. Those people I worked with at the newspaper—who I did not view as particularly close friends during the time we were together—have now become people I communicate with almost every day. The seven of us E-mail all the time and get together once a year. We're much better friends now than when we were at UND. I did not anticipate that at all.

What was your favorite hangout spot?

We used to go a 24-hour Hardees restaurant on Gateway Avenue in Grand Forks and sit there all night, talking about Nirvana and Mike Tyson and especially memorable games of Dungeons & Dragons. The best bar was in East Grand Forks. It was called Whitey's. We went there every Wednesday. But then Whitey's was destroyed by a fire that happened during a flood. They've since rebuilt Whitey's, and the new building was designed to look exactly the way it did before the destruction. But now it's too weird. Even though everything is technically identical, it feels fake. It looks like someone has constructed the set for a TV sitcom called "Whitey's." It's like getting drunk inside a simulacrum.

Were you a bookworm or a slacker?

Neither. I did not study very much, but I always showed up for class. A lot of my friends did the opposite, which seemed crazy to me. Who were your role models back then?

Axl Rose and Bobby Knight. What was the biggest obstacle you faced in college?

I think almost every important idea I had about life changed 180 degrees during those four years, so I suppose the biggest obstacle I overcame was myself. Tell us about one thing you did in college that still makes you proud.

I purchased a kerosene lamp at Target. This was during an era when I really liked Primus. I have no idea why I am proud of this. I guess I just like to think, "You know, I used to be the kind of guy who sat around listening to Primus while pretending it was the 19th century." I feel like this is a good indication of what type of idiot I was in 1993. Tell us one way in which college changed you.

Prior to going to UND, it had never occurred to me that it was possible to tell a story without a linear narrative. The concept had simply never occurred to me. But once it did, it changed the way I thought about everything. If you could go back, what about college would you do differently?

Nothing. I have minor regrets but no major ones. I probably wouldn't have worn a baseball cap everywhere. What were two things you did for the first time while in college?

Go to Canada. Eat Chinese food.

Goon... is this the transcript of segment.

or are you just interviewing yourself again ;)-

Alright, calm down.  The one thing that I repeatedly post under multiple usernames to fake that more people that give a !@#$, are just trying to point out is that all other athletic programs have embraced the new nickname and logo while the hockey program (as well as many of its fanbase they cheer for hockey and no other sport) seem to be less as enthusiastic.

  8. This is also  my opinion... I can get north south in Bismarck anf Fargo without the bone jarring and swearing that went along with moving about Forks this past weekend.

It was brutal, i was planning on shopping at a few places  but the prospect of dealing with the traffic and roads kept us back at hotel.... i guess we did deem the happy harrys trip as reason enough... but anything else was a nah

Washington between S 17th and Gateway is ridiculous.  Just so you Grand Forks people are aware, other ND cities are not like this right now.  There's more than just bad weather responsible here.

    THIS.

  10. I think its just fantastic strategy for G Forks gubernment to keep dumping money into studies and campaigns to spend more money on a library.

I'm just glad they didn't waste any of that money on infrastructure or fixing the potholes.  That crap is almost tourist attraction level iimpressive right now.....

actually council may need to fund a study to see if paying for a another study that looks at studying if a campaign by the cvb could bring people into to drive the minefield of road divots.

  11. Was up for the weekend, very impressed that the development of the pothole network around town... bidness was booming .

Although with a just a jackhammer and a little bit of effort that one 30 yard stretch of good road could be filled in with a few more rim shattering depressions.

There are not current jerseys on the clearance rack. It isn't true and it makes makes zero sense. On top of that, they have been out for about 6-8 months now and the team will have different jerseys after next season regardless. Not the only reasons, but it sure contributes. It isn't a shocker the volume isn't as large.

    Wrong.

You are wrong. It's either by choice, ignorance, or desperate denial... but its just wrong.

I just saw replica ccm F'nHawks jerseys on clearence.... along with a whole big circular rack of Fhawks stuff at scheels this week.

    Retail results don't lie.

I always find it interesting that you see people here posting all the time looking for authentic Sioux jerseys that aren't cheap knockoffs from China.  My question is, where were these people from 2005-2012?!!  There were thousands of jerseys at Scheels, the Siouxshop, etc during that time.  Even though it still wasn't a for sure thing were dropping the name until summer of 2012, there was still a good amount of time that stores will selling these jerseys.  I bought one in 2011 at the Sioux Shop just to have one before they were out.  Nor sure why others didn't do the same.

If you can't find an authentic Sioux jersey, I have a great idea for you.  Go to the Sioux Shop or Scheels and grab one of the new ones they have for sale!

The reason why there were so many at the Sioux shop back then was the MASSIVE orders they put in prior to the cut off of ordering for the SIOUX logo.

That happened about three seperate times during the NCAA extortion process. One of the first times the huge orders were placed Scheels ordered a metric !@#$ ton of them and then when it was ruled ok for the next year during the back and forth they actually sold off some authentics for that $200 price point to move inventory.

A GREAT buy/investment i know.. i bought about a dozen over the time.

They were still flying off the shelf but sales slowed a bit after the announcement that Sioux stuff would be available for a bit longer.

you bought one thats great... alot of people bought them then...you ask why others didnt ?... they WERE  buying them, they just didnt know they were supposed to notify you when they picked them up.

Many were not purchasers at that time... .still in middle school... now when they go to college they want real Sioux sweaters.... there is a market there.

You do know the retail supply of authentic reebok SIOUX sweaters is gone right?...

There is not a Sioux sweater you can buy, NEW off the rack anywhere... Sioux Shop....Scheels... all gone.

You have to be able to understand that right?

As much as you want it to be the case... the F'nHawks jerseys are not Sioux jerseys.... and they DO NOT SELL for !@#$ and never will.

Sioux Shop has difficulty moving anywhere near the volume of authentics compared to the Sioux sweaters... and thats comparing before the surge due to retirement. The reebok Nodak sweaters ala the '16 natty sweater sold a bit due to wanting the natty authentic but the ccm fhawks sweaters ... Nope.

Scheels from what I've seen has not even stocked authentics of the fhawks jersey. They carry retail replicas from ccm and k1 but those are frequently found on the clearence rank because they dont sell.

Anyone who has for sale an authentic reebok Sioux sweater.... can ask what they want really... there is little competition but many people do have them so market is not as strong.

IMHO $450 is a good and fair ask, especially the wcha patched .....anywhere from $350-450 is a fair transaction. Anything around $300 is a good price, if one is patient and watches facebook or bismanonline or even carefully on ebay deals can be found but the reality is....

You can not buy a new one off the shelf. Anywhere.

  15. The chn website was hilarious.... until...

one starts actually thinking about it in a different light... It wasnt just a headline. or a picture... it was dozens of writing pieces that delved deeep into the history of the program...

and not just articles it was the formating and creation of the website. not just a webpage but multiple working links of page after page of .....trolling gold...

anyone who takes that much time is either a brilliant genius or a psycopath.

Now the site was done so good it tends to go to the side of brilliance, however....

knowing the post history and rantings and deep seeded loathing of all things UND that they have spewed in the past, one has to realize the time and effort and hours spent sitting at a computer reaching into his own twisted  selfconcious ..... giggling in maniacal hatred... taking time for breaks to gratify his aroused urges of jealous fetish...  writing page after page of what his soul desperatly wants to be truth.... it scares me.

I worry for them. Funny stuff on the surface... but likely psycopathic.

What the hell is a DHG?

    From Websters definition:

DHG. ... noun. verb... action and reaction all in one.

Drunk Hockey Guy, an embarrassing uber racist that publicly extols his hatred for anything outside of it's s intelectual universe  (Duluth).  Hangs blankets at UND sporting events that read "Small pox blankets... with the assistance of an employee of the Minnesota Vikings )

Calls into twin city radio making fun of opposing kids injuries  while spouting off the stupidest takes on hockey that could possibly be imagined.

It also could literally be defined by a picture of a clear bag that has been filled with old douche fluid and a successful enema.

It's notsomuch a winner at the whole game of life to be honest.

Big Bulldog fan appearently, forever jealous of the real maroon and gold in the cities.

Seething in anguished jealousy of UND almost as a constant part of its daily life.

Obsessed with Schlossman..... like creepy obsessed.

That pretty much sums that thing up.
