Very true. If UND could put together the type of teams they did in 2006 and 2007, they certainly can do it again moving forward.They just need to get the scheme, philosophy, and recruiting strategy reinstalled that got them there in the first place.

Really, its just the UND and Dale Lennon formula from about 2000 to 2007 that Bubba is following. Most people forget that UND's best FCS win is not 2012 vs. Montana, or 2011 vs. SUU, or even 2009 vs. Cal Poly, but rather in 2006 vs. #3 Northern Iowa. In 2006, and the rest of Lennon's years, UND was a balanced physical offense (not a delicate air-it-all-over-the-place offense) with a physical pressure defense. Bottom line, they played smart, physical, balanced football with local area recruits. Why Mussman got away from that, I'll never know, because he witnessed all the successful Lennon teams in person. Nevertheless, Bubba knows how to make UND successful, because when UND was DII with Lennon, they were already a "top FCS-caliber" team. Bubba both coached for and against Dale Lennon's UND teams. Furthermore, Bubba was with Lennon for the past 6 years. Bottom line, Bubba knows what it takes to make UND successful. Maybe not SIU, but he knows the formula for UND. This thing is on the right track with Bubba.

Agreed. Basic principles here: 1) Agree to home and home with fellow FCS North Dakota State -or- 2) Agree to home and home with OTHER FCS football program Simple course of action in my opinion.

I may be nitpicking here, but one of the things I miss from previous football seasons is the team photo that was typically posted on the UND athletics’ website. It was nice to see the team photo above the roster but that hasn’t been posted for the past few seasons. Anyway that could make a comeback? Mussman's communication skills were not good. They were one of the things that had me doubting if he could be a successful head coach...then 2012 and 2013 happened.

Mussman's teams were all quite inconsistent. He never installed proper discipline because he certainly lacked leadership ability. Of course, the talent and scheme/philosophy was also a bit down.

Via Twitter, it kind of appears that RB Brady Oliviera (5'10”, 215, Winnipeg (Oak Park), MB) may be close to committing. Hard to know the exact circumstances, but I sure hope it works out for him and he commits. He looks like the kind of physical RB we need for a physical running offense.

I mean, when UND starts winning again, starting this season and especially in 2015, are we then going to be able to schedule a home and home? Probably not. There's no better time to schedule it than right now. The game is already overdue. As for the state of UND football, stock is rising each and everyday. Mussman was an incompetent head coach and everyone knew it. He should never have been promoted to HC and he never should've had the job past 2011 or 2012. Bubba isn't a miracle worker, but he understands that UND has the resources to be every bit as successful as the other Midwest FCS schools like SDSU, UNI, and even NDSU. He also knows the template: recruit Midwest kids and put forth great physical and mental effort. Am I saying UND will start winning national titles soon; no, but I'm saying with a competent coaching staff UND should win at least 6 to 7 games annually. Give it time; by 2015 or 2016 it will have begun. As for NDSU, they can only go down. Craig Bohl was a great leader and the 2013 senior class was a one of a kind. Like it or not, the programs will even out sooner than you think.

Someone from your passionately insane fan base initiated the continual comments regarding Minnesota football, so I'm not sure why you're now including the topic of NDSU's FBS wins into this 2015 UND recruiting thread as a rebuttal. Please know the context of a post before replying; if you do not, it only further exposes your intent to troll and add nothing constructive to the conversation. Thank you

Umm NDSU scheduled a home and home with Weber State for goodness sake! It doesn't matter if you're the better team or not, you schedule home and homes with teams at your same level (FCS), especially when the respective schools are rivals, only 70 miles apart, and have a long and heated history! Alabama does it, Florida State does it. Michigan does it. Oklahoma does it. Even more similar, Iowa-Iowa State do it, Georgia-Georgia Tech do it, Utah-Utah State do it, etc. etc. etc.

Only schedule a home and home with NDSU. If they won't do it, don't cave Mr. Faison, just continue to negotiate and hope that NDSU eventually comes to their senses and schedules a home and home. Whether that starts next year and whenever, just keep trying for only the home and home. In the meantime, why not try and schedule other Midwest FCS programs to home-and-homes to fill our schedule. I would love to see games with Northern Iowa, Southern Illinois, Illinois State, Indiana State, etc. Heck, even try get some east coast teams like New Hampshire, Maine, Delaware, etc. to agree to deals. I believe NDSU should be UND's highest priority in terms of trying to get a home and home; however, if they won't do that (especially when they will schedule Weber State and Eastern Washington to such agreements), then move on to other opportunities with FCS clubs. Eventually, we'll either meet NDSU in the playoffs or NDSU's athletic department will have something click upstairs and they'll schedule the home and home. Only two options in my opinion.

Albeit the defense should be farther ahead of the offense at this point, I like how the defense is playing so far. I think the coaching emphasis on defense along with the pressure they apply will greatly help the defense. I sure hope UND's defense can surprise a lot of people this year and be darn good.

Regardless of ratings, The University of North Dakota best fits the mold as the flagship university of the state of North Dakota. Apparently you are heavily biased towards NDSU; therefore, you don't want facts to interrupt your personal view on reality. Flagship universities are typically public universities, so they don't stand a chance in college rating lists such as Forbes or US news due to the amount of private universities ranked. Nevertheless, UND offers a tremendous amount of opportunities for in-state residents that a lot of other states don't mutually provide. For example, how many other states can offer their residents opportunities in world-class aviation, biomedical research, ecological studies, petroleum engineering, etc. Not only that, but the professional schools at UND attract established faculty from around the world to help share their wealth of knowledge. States such as Montana, Wyoming, and Idaho do not even possess an allopathic medical college. The point is, UND offers opportunities that are in high demand across the country and world, and whether you like it or not, they offer more of those opportunities than NDSU. And if its worth anything, UND is higher than NDSU in the US news ranking you referenced. If you're a North Dakota resident looking for an affordable education (which is becoming more and more pressing all of the time), having a flagship university is important, so please don't discount that.

Hanson isn't in it. Too short, too many throwing errors, and mental errors. The RBs are solid this year (no more 160 lb. Miller). Also, I think the OL will be okay once the lineup is found and stabilized. The TEs will have more than a few catches this year; they are heavily emphasized in the short to intermediate passing game. Also, I agree the defense will be much better. There just is more discipline and emphasis on that side of the ball now, but of course the FBS transfers help in the talent department too.

small towns? Those are the small towns that produce many of the athletes I *thought* NDSU valued. Additionally, nearly the entire state of North Dakota is considered rural, so if you consider NDSU to be even somewhat loyal to their craft, you would respect rural medicine in North Dakota. NDSU educates a lot of international students in aviation? Did not know that. NDSU educates professionals in medicine and law? Did not know that. NDSU has a top business school? Did not know that. NDSU has a MLB president? Did not know that. NDSU has produced alumni whom are capable of donating entire athletic arenas? NDSU has produced star players in a major professional sport league (NHL)? The list goes on and on...

Last season Minnesota had several good wins, including Nebraska. Nebraska crushed South Dakota State last season; that's right, that's SDSU from the untouchable MVFC. Well, now in 2014, the schools haven't magically become farther apart. Also, the history and tradition are still there. The potential revenue and attendance boost also hasn't changed. Where you make no sense is where you state the OOC rivalry template and open schedule dates were true in 2003. In 2003, UND and NDSU were not out-of-conference rivals, so that would not apply whatsoever. It just goes to prove you ag tech supporters are blind and selectively believe whatever forms your own pretty little reality; how sad.

A flagship university, when looking at examples from across the country, is often the most prominent public university in the state. Additionally, flagship universities are often the first to be established within the state and have the most state support. The University of North Dakota has greater enrollment than North Dakota State University (UND > 15,000); UND has professional schools and a world-renown aviation school whereas NDSU does not; UND was founded in 1883 and NDSU was founded after in 1890. Therefore, basic logic would reveal UND fits the mold of flagship university better than NDSU. Apparently, certain individuals associated with NDSU find it difficult to embrace reality. Also, how in the world did you come to the conclusion that football standings affect flagship school status? That's laughably idiotic.
