  1. Elijah Grady, Grady Higgins and Decxavier Kelly-Martin are the ones I know. Higgins and Kelly-Martin are likely high targets.

Both Higgins and Kelly-Martin appear to be real good defensive prospects. Hope we have success this weekend and impress them.

  2. Perusing your posts over recent seasons, you are in no position to characterize anyone's assertions as foolish.

Please feel free to enlighten me with examples.

I'm a Univeristy of North Dakota alumnus and fan; I'm not on this board because I get paid to post my honest-to-God objective opinion, but rather because I like discussing how UND athletics can succeed.

If you would rather use this board to spread your pessimism, then so be it; that's your prerogative. Nevertheless, many of your claims are outright incorrect and possess no merit.

As for your post regarding UCONN football, I stand by what I said in that it is pointless. UCONN is an FBS program that has had moderate success; if UND and/or any other FCS team plays them tough or defeats them, it's worth noting. Dismissing that entire notion on your part is, well, foolish.

  3. Let's live in 2014 for a moment.

    SB is not good.

    UND is not good.

UConn is not good, but they are better than both UND and SB. Yes, UND winning at UConn would do something for me, but I'm not living in fantasy land and the bar is set so low this year that a win against SUU-a difficult road game vs an opponent actually on the schedule-really would mean something to me.

Stony Brook narrowly lost to UCONN.

    UND defeated Stony Brook.

UCONN is certainly better than UND?

Matt, I'm afraid your assertions are foolish, and well, irrelevant.

  4. Although I'm hoping for a UND victory that would add huge momentum to Bubba's young regime, I understand it will be difficult.

If Montana does win, I would like to expect UND's defense will keep it close though.

  5. South Dakota may be considered a bottom team in the MVFC but they would be middle of the pack in the Big Sky. They gave Montana a tough game. South Dakota is a better team than UND but that doesn't mean UND can't pick it up and atleast make this Montana game interesting anyway.

Not so fast there ndsu23; South Dakota has done nothing in this young season to show they're better than UND. Montana is a tough team but they've also only defeated low-end FCS teams so it's hard to know exactly how good they are.

UND played a good Montana State team tough on the road, which makes me think South Dakota wouldn't be any better than UND.

  6. My prediction from the blackout thread:

Given UND is 2-0 in home games thus far, I'm going to continue to believe UND will win at home until I see otherwise. Crowd needs to help out the defense and help surprise the Griz in this game.

    UND 19

    Montana 17

Is this farfetched? Perhaps, but I'll proudly be wearing by Kelly green glasses at this game.

  7. Sorry but I lost my Kelly green tinted glasses 3 years ago...but obviously you still have a few pair around.

What's your prediction then...other than that Joe has a sensational week of practice?

UND will have to score 2 offensive TDs to cover IMO. That's happened in how many games so far?

Given UND is 2-0 in home games thus far, I'm going to continue to believe UND will win at home until I see otherwise. Crowd needs to help out the defense and help surprise the Griz in this game.

    UND 19

  8. Bubba indicated that we had lost players for the season because of injuries. He said we had no major injuries at MSU though. I know we lost Kyle Ruhe for the season. Who else have we lost for the season?

Possibly RB Simmons and maybe even OL AJ Stockwell. I'm not sure.

  9. Great to see the improvements on both sides of the ball this week.

If they are gonna lose, it is nice to have a conference loss we don't have to be ashamed of for a change.

Regarding the QB situation, I go back and forth on this. On the one hand, you would be hard pressed to convince me that if it were a linebacker playing as poorly as Joe has been that bubba would allow him to continue to be a starter. That said, I don't think the alternative would be a significant improvement. They know what they have in both guys so I guess they are just gonna go with it. However, someone wrote earlier that Joe has the potential to be a "dominant" qb at this level? He is so freaking far off from that kind of hyperbole it is laughable to read that. Joe is scarcely holding on to a starting job with a team that is in the lower half of the conference, let alone on a path to dominance at the fcs level. Joe hasn't shown he can execute the most basic of qb duties on even a proficient level yet. The bar is set so low now, if he simply would stop throwing it to the other team we would probably award him the game ball.

UND has a legitimate opportunity to finish in the top half of the Big Sky this season. That would exceed expectations and really mean well for UND under Bubba moving forward.

Have to see how the team does moving forward, but if they build off their play vs. Montana State, UND will definitely win a few more games this season.

  10. Mollberg ha a decent game. He also was very close to throwing 4 ints..... He needs to clean those throws up.

That pick six he threw in the second quarter was a killer. Have to protect the football and not give away easy scores, especially with how the offense has been playing. The offense did okay in the second half when Norberg was having success running the ball though. Very imperative the offensive line plays well for the offense to be successful.

  11. I didn't see the second half but MSU is a run based/screen pass team for the most part.  They were also missing some starters at WR so they may have been conservative for that reason.  I doubt they pulled off the gas much as the game really wasn't in hand and part of the scoring came from a pick 6.  The offense wasn't lighting it up in the first half either.

Montana State didn't have the ball much in the 2nd half relative to UND; that is, they didn't have the opportunity to play conservative. UND outplayed Montana State in second half, simple as that. However, as we all know, football is a four quarter game and UND did not win the first half.

One thing to be optimistic about is mistakes. Mistakes can be corrected, and if the offense plays with less mistakes (no turnovers, botched handoffs and center-QB exchanges, etc.), UND will be even better. How good? This team is a 0.500 team if the defense keeps playing the way it is and the offense improves its timing and discipline.

  12. This defense can beat Montana if we control our errors. So looking forward to next week. Let's pack that place like 2 years ago and hear 3rd and long get on your feet all day.

Montana next week is more than winnable. Again comes down to turnovers. If crowd noise is a factor and Montana turns the ball over some, UND will have a solid chance.

  13. I'm hoping our Offensive coordinator surprises a few people and opens up the play book a bit. That being said...

    MSU-28

    ND-17

I'd say you were right; playbook was opened up a bit more. More pistol was used today.
  14. What were the weather conditions last weekend? Eden Prairie could put up 50 on EWU's pathetic defense.

Good effort by the team today. Eliminate several mistakes and this is an even closer game. Michigan, on the other hand...good grief. That offense is supposed to be Big 10?

Eastern Washington's defense is bad but let's not carried away here...

  15. I was at the game. When I parked a couple from the next car was getting out at the same time. They are Bobcat fans and we talked a bit. I told them I would be surprise if the Bobcats score 30 points and would be delight if we scored 17 points. They looked at me like I was crazy. I saw them after the game and they are believers that are team is impressive. At halftime I overheard many express comments about our defense. All we impressed.

If Milberg hadn't thrown the pick 6. Bobcats would have 23 points.

If our drive in 2nd half on the 15 yd line and a penalty and sack lead to a GF. Had we score a TD we would have been 22 points with an extra point rather than a GF.

That was impressive improvement. We have a chance next week. I believe we will be 6-6 this year. That would be a very good first year. Nordberg has some nice runs. I saw some OL blocking down field. WE are making more that baby steps for sure.

I agree. That 6-6 mark is very obtainable. I think winning seasons are right around the corner, folks!

  16. Maybe I expected more from the offense, it was hard to watch getting a yard here and a yard there. I was hoping for a miracle at the end only down 11. Bubba's offense needs a spark where we see a 100 yd rusher or Mollberg throwing 4 touchdowns. That would be great to see. Its blackout day so I'm hoping for a loud crowd, and an upset. Maybe another pick 6 by Tillman to get the crowd electric.

The offense has been anemic, but ultimately the TEAM has been playing much better than they did last year. Bubba has the TEAM improving, especially the defense. If this young team can play like they did today, just imagine after a year or two and UND has additional talent.

  17. Take away the defense scoring and we scored a whopping 12 points. Is 12 going to win in the BSC? Nope!

The fact UND's defense scored off a top 10 FCS offense should be something to get happy about. Oh, and UND has shown to be able to win with 11 or so offensive points at home in the Alerus this year.

  18. What is wrong with you guys? We got absolutely destroyed the last two years. I'm not for "moral victories", but I give Bubba a couple of years and we are a force to reckon with. Our defense already is. Offense needs to catch up, but I think they made positive strides today.

Absolutely! Given how Montana State ran away with the last two games vs. UND, everyone should be very pleased. Bubba has already turned around the defense and the rest of the team is not far behind. Good things lie ahead.
