  1. Don't know if NDSU will be able to handle all of this unproven talent UND has coming into next year. They have already shown the talent and determination to really rack up the moral victories this year and contend for a hypothetical playoff birth.

You add nothing to a discussion. We all know you, as a wonderfully-implied NDSU troll (which we have an infestation problem with around here), do not think NDSU is touchable.

Apparently talking about how NDSU almost lost to Western Illinois wasn't interesting enough so you had to come over here. Pitiful...

  2. Boy must be nice to see Bubba's morals victories already piling up leading to a hypothetical playoff birth.

Boy, it would sure be nice if you would know what you're talking about.

No one, especially Bubba, said there has been moral victories. Nevertheless, UND had a very real opportunity to defeat two of the top 3 Big Sky teams the last two weeks. For any mentally competent person, that would mean something as far as UND's capability as a team. For NDSU trolls such as yourself, well, refer back to the mental competence part.

  3. Decxavier Kelly-Martin looks to still be holding 5 offers: UND, Georgia State, Illinois State, Indiana State, and WMU. He is playing on a very skilled team maybe looking at who has offered but waiting for a bigger offer??? Might be a bit to small for that bigger offer though.

Grady Higgins might be in the same boat waiting for a bigger offer. Right now it looks like he holds offers from UND, UNH, and Holy Cross. He also has taken two visit to Boston College, and other big school seem to be looking at him.

I would guess that we have a good chance at the other Grady but know nothing of how he plays, or where he will play position wise. His hudl has no video or height/weight but lists him as a Fullback. He is smaller and shorter than his brother.

Obi and Trey Philips looked like the had a decent time at the game. I expect us to get Trey Phillips and I think he will be a motivational took for Obi to come. http://www.mnfootballhub.com/roster_players/5832009?subseason=156042

Thanks for the update. Hope it works out for UND with Kelly-Martin and Higgins; both would be big time linebackers for Eric Schmidt and UND.

  4. At one point Jake Francis was #1 on the depth chart at center. I wonder if he is any better at snapping than Boas. CCan certainly can't be worse......

Jake Francis sounds to be good judging by his recruiting interest and fall camp reps. He'll start next year as a redshirt freshman, possibly over Boas or replacing Henson. He was recruited by Knauf who likely wants him to redshirt before getting on the field as a starter.

  5. Elijah Grady, Decxavier Kelly-Martin, and Grady Higgins were the only officials but lots of unofficials.

Expected to be here on unofficials.

  6. Unless there is demand from the general public why change the size. Demand isn't there yet on both ends.

Rather see the the people wanting to be at the game sitting at midfield on both sides rather than just one. It is disgraceful to see a bunch of empty seats at the 50 yard line. The public and season ticket holders, including myself, would jump at the opportunity to have seats over there.

  7. I think it's as simple as decreasing the size of the student section. It creates a huge void at the 50 yd line of open seats. Until it is plump full and students are begging for more seats, leave it that way. It shouldn't be that hard to understand; right now, students only want to attend if they can drink. Until the security lets up or the team is winning consistently, the student section will always be half full at best.

  8. Sounds good in theory, but our AD is literally incapable of doing most of this. You know this as well as I do, Ira.

I lost all confidence in him with how aloof and clueless he came across in the hiring process. The timing, the lack of knowledge on how college athletics and specifically football works nowadays, the lack of expedience, the lack of networking and headhunting skills - everything. His ultimate choice is/was a great one, but how he got there was an embarrassment to his profession and the UND Athletic Department.

I personally am counting down the days until we have a new AD. It's the next step in rebuilding the overall character of our Athletic Department and University as a whole. Someone who loves UND and believes it's an honor to be there, someone who actually buys a home in Grand Forks. I get the whole "it starts at the top with the President" mantra, and I agree to a certain extent. However, I think President Kelley, at this point, is down the list of concerns when compared to our AD right now. I'm also concerned about our AD and his staff "wearing out" Bubba and his staff with the constant jumping through hoops BS in order to run a successful FCS program. It's ridiculous.

Having said all of this. I'm super excited with the direction Bubba and his staff have this program heading and I can't wait to see what they can achieve with their own recruits and system over the years.

For what it's worth, I have spoke to many fellow long-time UND supporters who have negative things to say about Faison. It's become a majority opinion. He really isn't that friendly with North Dakotans who are of the traditional variety. UND athletics could make huge strides with a more competent athletic director, because by no means is the UND athletics' department yet maxed out.
  9. I don't think the game will be a blowout. I think UND is coming along nicely, I was following the Montana game and your defense held stout. I know it was their backup QB but I am not sure how much more the starter would have been good for. I think the difference with NDSU is our margin for error. I love the way we play football because it's based on scheme and discipline and not athletes, and UND showed alot of scheme and discipline against Montana. NDSU is so good along the oline/dline that opponenets just can't keep up, even when NDSU doesn't play well. I know it doesn't show right now, but NDSU offense is going to be very very good. The Wentz kid is a special player with a big time arm and some games he just looks to be a man among boys, especially when he runs. Sooner or later the passing game is going to open up and the running game is just going to pound opponents.

NDSU wins in a manner where people don't notice becuase they control both sides of the LOS. It amazes me the lack of intelligence when we play against the big boys and control the LOS that their fans don't see that. UND defense was doing that very nicely against Montana and I am amazed that the "intelligen"t fns of Montana fans didn't see that. We did that to them all game too and even though it wasn't a blowout I don't think fans ever really felt threatened.

I'll be looking to see if your coach can continue to control the LOS on the defensive side of the ball and if that carries over to the offense. I'm hoping once he gets his recruits in you can see alot more balance around the entire unit both sides of the ball. Would love to see UND shake up the big fluff with a defense dominated and controlled team.

Very good points. As we see by both NDSU and now UND, playing physical defense and ball controlling offense really neutralizes wide-open passing teams. Without his own recruits, Bubba has already managed to even up UND with most Big Sky clubs. After a couple seasons of recruiting, the Big Sky best watch out for UND and Bubba. Really, only Montana and UND are playing traditional tough football right now in the Big Sky.
  10. And here lies the issue..." normal down and distance". Both SU and MT have success with play action because they use it 1st and ten, 2nd and 4 and 3rd and 1. UND likes to save play action for 3rd and 9.

No argument here. UND needs to improve the running game, but that is happening week after week due to the inexperience of the offensive line when the season started.

  11. Students need to realize they can make a difference. Need to show up and stay through second half. Tailgaters should let students know we appreciate them coming and share whatever is legal for the students to consume. Kelly and Faison need to get out from behind their desks and rally the students. They should have big Friday night bonfire with bubba, coaches, band and team and free food and legal beverages. Kelly should also let faculty know they need to participate so they can reconnect with alumni. Faison needs to take a look at game programs. Do something there for students. Also should recognize cheerleaders, dance team and band in the program. He should be our biggest cheerleader. He has most of the biggest part already.

Very good point and something I too have observed.

Both Faison and Kelley need to be more active promoting football. Hiring Bubba was great in the fact that he is respectful and capable of successfully communicating with everyone from alumni to students to his players. He is picking up some slack that Faison and Kelley could definitely help with.

  12. A bit hard to believe, but Portland St. opens as a 3-point favorite.

I won't say my prediction until Friday or so but I really doubt Portland State can keep this one close. Homecoming excitement/noise plus the way the defense is playing will make the Alerus a living hell for Portland State...

  13. And the amazing thing is Bubba is having this type of success (defensively mostly) with Mussman's guys. Can't wait till his guys get plugged into his sytem. Things are looking promising to say the least.

Both the offense and defense are largely juniors and sophomores. As soon as next year some real good things may be happening...

  14. Both SU and MT are poor examples. They run the ball...yes but both Wentz and Johnson can drop straight back and throw it effectively and often if needed without every pass play being play action. Right now UND can't do that.

Nearly every pass-play NDSU and Montana run in normal down and distance situations is play-action pass.

  15. All said above it true but if this team can not have their QB make a straight up 7 step drop and throw it with some success this offense will continue to be what it is...a below average FCS offense.

    Don't agree.

Not saying UND is where it needs to be offensively, because they aren't, but if an offense can effectively run the ball, play-action passes really are effective.

See NDSU and even Montana. These teams focus on running the ball, and once they can do that, then those exciting deep passing plays can happen. UND is hoping to get to that point, but first they need to eliminate penalties and consistently gain better on first down running the ball.

  16. Agree but did anyone else ever get the sense that watching Muss coach would be similar to watching an OB-GYN doctor trying to perform a vasectomy? He just looked completely uncomfortable all the time.

    Ha! Nice!

  17. I'm so proud to wear my UND hat and jacket. This team has the talent and coaching to be the best in the Big Sky. Like statement above Don't lost focus and play ever down with heart, whether it's practice, film room or game.

Amazing how much this team has changed in one season. Best players are now playing and the coaching is much improved. To top it off, the recruiting is much better too. Don't know if Mussman was that bad or if Bubba is that good, but it may be a combination of both.

    Go UND!

  18. I heard that it was an illness rather than an injury for Anderson so hopefully he can recover quickly.  I thought Brandon Miller did well last week against Montana's defense in place of Anderson.

Absolutely, nice to see UND be able to play physical and run the ball (Norberg had 73 yards rushing) despite UND's best offensive lineman missing the game. Should help build better depth along the OL with Brandon Miller getting that valuable playing time.
