  1. Some of made their predictions on the matchup thread but we normally have a separate one for these picks.

    MSU 42

    UND 13

As always, I hope I am wrong!

Darn! So Missouri State is every bit as good as San Jose State? I sure hope not, plus this team needs to show improvement from week 1 to week 3.

  2. Sorry, I didn't realize I wasn't suppose to reply to your off topic reply.

I was initially replying to one of your fan base's internet trolls and his attempt to further derail UND football threads with idiotic off-topic comments...

    Please don't continue the foolsihness.

  3. How different do you think the schools are really ranked given UND is tied for #168 with 4 other schools, then there is a group of 8 tied at #173, and then NDSU tied for #181 with 6 other schools? It looks like a golf tournament result to me. Since both universities are included in the National University list, my guess is US News doesn't agree with your "agriculture-specialty intuition" tag.

That's some good Big Sky Conference news...

  4. Even though we do lack depth this roster has by far the best depth of the last 6 teams. Just look at the LBs and DBs.

Depth is not close to where it needs to be. Many of those linebackers and DBs are underclassmen. When each position has seniors and juniors ready to step in and play, then we are where we need to be. That likely won't be til 2014's recruiting class are seniors, so that still a solid 3 years away (2017).

  5. Although getting improved talent is important, another key aspect is depth. UND lacks depth at many key positions; Bubba's recruiting plan should not only be to acquire talented players, but also acquire talented players at all positions. Building depth is very important to future success.

  6. Studsrud is the future. The future is not now. Mollberg is doing well considering the o-line. I would guess our o-line is at the bottom of the conference. This would not be a growing year for Studsrud.

Studsrud will get his opportunity, I'm sure, but that opportunity will/should not be this season. As for Mollberg, he has as many touchdown passes as interceptions (no bad turnover margin) this season and he has not made too many horrible mistakes, thus far. The sample size in Rudolph's offense needs to be much larger before casting blame on Mollberg. Mollberg has the ability to be a good Big Sky Conference quarterback, and plucking him out of the starting lineup before he gets comfortable is one way to ruin a quarterback. Last year, Mussman's musical quarterback chairs was a joke. Bubba and Rudolph should, and likely won't, be doing that. Give Mollberg an opportunity to learn from his mistakes and improve within Rudolph's offense. Although Mollberg hasn't been spectacular, the running game hasn't been great either. UND needs to concentrate on improving the offensive line and running backs before getting too carried away with the quarterback situation. Oh, and the wide receivers are young and inexperienced, also.

  7. You are the one that locked the "Future UND/ Bisons football Game" thread citing that it had run its course even though there actually IS a future UND/NDSU football game now. Where did you think the "shoe size" measuring contest would go?

Wouldn't it make more sense to kick the trolls off of the board instead of locking threads?

I may have to agree with this…

  8. New offer:

CB Ziele Mosley, 6'1", 175, 4.76, Hopkins HS

The 4.76 (if correct) is a little concerning for a DI CB.

I'm sure the staff is hoping that 40 time can be improved with a redshirt year of weight training...

... or else they have plans for him at safety...

  9. I would agree it's a bit steep but not by much. I see us losing this game by three scores (around 20 points) like you said. I'm not trying to be a hater, but what I witnessed at the Al last Saturday was just not very good. The only positive change I saw from last year's team was some increased aggressiveness on the defensive side of the ball. Still too many penalties, mistakes (botched snaps/handoffs, etc). I'll give them credit that they didn't give up, but there is still quite a ways to go. This team now have a measuring stick...time to see how much Bubba can coach them up and see what kind of progress is made over the course of the season..

Only positive from last game is that a lot of the issues this team has are correctable. Sure the talent isn't quite there yet and Bubba needs to keep recruiting and bringing in talent, but UND can be close to a .500 team if they eliminate most, if not all, turnovers and penalties. Penalties last game cost UND an extra turnover and critical yards in the red zone.

Of course, the running game and rush defense needs to just straight up improve as well; that's where improved talent comes into play…

  10. NDSU ended Wisconsin's home winning streak.

NDSU went toe-to-toe with Kansas in the NCAA's.

NDSU beat Notre Dame in South Bend.

As you mentioned, NDSU beat Oklahoma in last year's NCAA opening round.

I don't know what you call that, but I call it being pretty good.

Any Big Sky scores to report yet?

Got it, NDSU basketball is amazing. Anything else?

  11. i know one play doesn't change a game normally but when jer almost had his head taken off on his first carry again san jose it really gets the other team jacked up and teeing off and so far jer has shown NOTHING

Good point. When you want to establish yourself as a physical football team and smash the football on the ground when on offense, you don't need to be de-cleated on the first play. That absolutely wrecks a team's confidence and feeds energy to the defense.

My outrageous opinion: move Garman to WR and run with actual RB measurable players; that is, Shaugabay, Simmons, and Sharp. If they need another RB, then hand-off some to Dustin Iverson too. Bottom line, UND can't be a physical running team if small, easy-to-tackle ball carriers are always being used.

Having a physical Brady Oliveria joining the team next season is a welcome sight. I'd love to see a physical FBS transfer join the backfield next season, too.

  12. More success in Football and Basketball. UND has hockey and that's about it.

UND's women athletics are superior to NDSU as well. And NDSU has had success in their conference in basketball, but that's about it (albeit the Oklahoma win last year has people thinking NDSU is unbelievable in basketball too). After all, UND did blow out NDSU men's basketball last season.

Okay, I regress. Back to BSC scores and news.

  13. Put in our place? lol Sorry but UND fans can't put anyone in their place.

Completely incorrect. Look at ranking systems across the country and then tell me how much more "impressive" the school to the south is. NDSU has had success in FCS football; that's it. When looking at the big picture, UND is the flagship university of North Dakota and NDSU is merely an agriculture-specialty intuition that emphasizes FCS football.

  14. Missouri St newly renovated their field. What makes me kind of mad is that in the 40 Memorial was a fine, large stadium. The Alerus is hardly an bigger. Missouri St has gone from a stadium of 8500 in the 40s to a 17500 now. How does Missouri St have a bigger stadium than us? They have 0 championships of any kind, conference, bowl, national. None. Yet they have a stadium that seats 5000 more than ours....

I wouldn't worry about attendance capabilities until the Alerus is consistently hosting over 12,000 per football game. When that time comes, then it is time to talk renovations.

  15. The NDSU State coach really complimented how good Weber State was. He said they were very good. If Weber is one of the bottom teams in the Big Sky that tells you how strong the Big Sky is. By the way, does anyone know where Incarnate World is located?

    San Antonio, Texas

  16. I think people need to decide on what their expectations for this program should be. Very rarely, in anything in life, does expectation level not have a direct correlation to level of success one achieves. If your expectations are that beating Robert Morris in the manner that we did is alright and is a stepping stone then I would suspect this entire rebuilding process is going to be much longer than any of us anticipate. Personally, my expectation level, regardless of our current situation, is to become a perennial playoff team. That means beating the likes of Robert Morris by multiple touchdowns. Anything less should be unacceptable and is putting lipstick on a pig. Tough love is a must in our current situation. Take the win but call a spade a spade.

    Agreed.

    Work needs to be done.

  17. Foolish? We will agree to disagree but to say they "could have put up 30 points" because of "legitimate opportunities" when they didn't is in no way a "foolish" comment?? 16 points scored against a bad FB team...fact. "Could have put up 30 points"...hypothetical.

I tend to go with what I saw actually happen and that is unfortunately according to you "simply looking at the scoreboard". My bad.....................

The offense was bad, no question. But there are many ways they could improve rather quickly, such as limiting turnovers and penalties. Nevertheless, UND needs improvement across the board at many offensive positions.
