  1. Hypothetically speaking, if UND runs the table and finishes, 8-4, giving their win against EWU the most value, the Eagles win out except for the one loss, UND would also get the most value if Stony wins out, Mizzou St. Bears win out. They would still miss the playoffs without a doubt. Their bed has already would have been hypothetically been made, with the losses that can't be changed even in a hypothetical, no matter what the Bears do and the Griz and Bobcats will hurt either one or the other which hurts UND due to they already lost to both, But it still would make for fun season to follow and look toward next year towards.

Beating a #2 EWU club and finishing with 8 wins would draw a top-20 ranking. That would place UND into the playoff field; simple as that. UND would either be the 3rd or 4th BSC team in.

  2. It's also supposed to be windy, with a 22 mph wind coming from the southern end-zone. This should be enough to affect passing.

Would think that's an advantage for the team that can best run the ball and stop run....

  3. I was on campus today and checked it out, it really is quite large once you get close to it. I noticed that floor is dug down quite a bit, maybe four feet or so. Does anyone know if that will be filled in, or will the floor be "below grade?"

The floor will be "below grade"; is actually cheaper as the ground thus acts as insulation.

  4. Teams are selected but in conferences that are not strong, the 4th best team does not tend to get in due a quality of wins factor.

Last week was week 10 of rankings. I think there are 1 or two that come out before the season starts.

Here is the simple way of looking at things: if UND runs the table and defeats #2 EWU (if they don't lose this weekend @NAU), they will be a top-20 ranked team that will thus get into the playoff field.

Depending how MSU and Montana finish the season, UND could even end up ahead of either MSU or Montana, despite losing the head-to-head. Of course, that's what a hypothetical 6 game winning streak would do.

  5. I paid particular attention to him during warmups before the PSU game, because I have been curious as to why he never plays, even as a kick returner. FWIW, he did not appear to be injured. He does seem to have some pretty good speed and quickness, but an inability to get on the field this year does not seem to bode well for him. Even with the losses of Shaugabay and Garman, the competition for playing time is not going to get any easier with the addition of Oliveira and probably several others next year, along with presumably the return of Simmons.

If Sharp doesn't get on the field this year, hard to say he ever will, and that has to do more with the RB depth than anything.

  6. Ban the troll!!!

Only kidding, just wanted to draw attention to your post as an example that not all bison fan posts are trolling posts.

Back on topic, I really hope Shaugaby is able to go this week. Would be nice to have three options at RB.

Also, I've asked this question before, as have others, but anyone have insight as to why we haven't seen Patrick Sharp get any carries?

If UND's offensive line is opening up holes, it would be great to just rotate 3 backs (Norberg, Shaugabay, and Garman) and continually pound the ball. If UND can do that, they'll win this game.

As for Patrick Sharp, I'm not sure why he hasn't got his chance yet. He may be a little green when it comes to the playbook and/or they don't trust his ball protection skills. Just taking a guess....

  7. Last time UND defeated SUU in Cedar City was 2011 and UND's running game went off with Jake Miller. Same thing has to happen for UND to win this Saturday; UND has to be able to run the ball because it will help out the defense against a pass happy, rhythm-emphasized offense of SUU. Also, of course, running the ball effectively prevents turnovers and results in touchdowns. Have to hope SUU's defense won't be as stout as most of the defenses UND has faced thus far.

Judging off SUU's last game, where Idaho State scored 56 -albeit mostly through the air, SUU doesn't appear to have a juggernaut defense.

  8. Michigan State would beat NDSU by 2 TDS if not more but NDSU would beat at least half of the Big 10 teams.

Hang with NDSU this year? No. Not a chance. NDSU' s defense is far and away the best in the FCS this year and UND's offense is less than stellar. Pretty confident that UND would not score more than once. Name a physical running attack that has tested UND this year? Maybe Missouri State and what happened?

Frankly, I think NDSU Michigan State would be closer than UND NDSU this year. Sagarin spread projections would support that statement. 11 months from now, NDSU will have a very different team and that game definitely could be close.

We understand you're one of those people who thinks NDSU is untouchable. Too bad that's not reality buddy.
  9. and if he goes and throws 4 picks then people will crow why did you start Bartles!

Its damned if you do and damned if you don't.

    Solid point.

Best stick with Mollberg then as he is the named starter. Need consistency at that position.

  10. Over in the FBS games thread (under NCAA News), Herd stated that NDSU would big a legitimate contender in the Big 10 and that the Bison would have no fear of a team like Michigan State. So the #6/7 rated team in FCS, Jacksonville State, got lit up for 38 first-half points by those same Spartans earlier this season. Either FCS is extremely weak after the #1 spot or Herd has lost his damn mind.

NDSU football has proven to be damn good, but Big Ten powerhouses like Michigan State are a whole other cookie.

  11. I like out chances - baring a dumpster fire. Based on the crowd in the background of the SUU video I'm starting to realize what a gap there is between the top tier of Big Sky football in both player quality and crowd support - the Montana's and EWU play to sell outs, the bottom tier plays to a empty seats - UND can establish a home in the top tier in both categories.

UND should be in the top 4 with Montana, Montana State, and EWU. That's largely based on fan support and budget/coaching pool salary. Fortunately, I think Bubba is getting UND to that BSC upper echelon category real fast here.

  12. I think we win this game but I also think it will be another nail biter. SUU's record is not that good, 1-7, but they have played a fairly difficult schedule that includes 2 FBS teams and 2 FCS ranked teams and 1 FCS team receiving votes. Not sure what they lost from last years team, but they were a playoff team. If this game were at home, I would feel better about it. I still think we win, but it will be closer than a lot of people think. Here's a link to their schedule:

    http://www.suutbirds.com/SportSelect.dbml?DB_LANG=C&DB_OEM_ID=20100&SPID=11715&SPSID=95830

SUU's last two home games are a 3-point win vs Weber State and a narrow 12 point loss to #2 EWU. With that, I think this game will be close. Have to hope the bye week and UND's defense will allow UND to come out with a win.

  13. I would expect this game and all of the rest of the games on our schedule to be tough games. I'm not sure what would lead us to believe this, or any other game left on our schedule, would be a blowout. We are capable of winning this game and if we keep improving, hopefully we will be able to compete in every game left on the schedule.

    No issue keeping expectations realistic.

With that said, I am also of the mindset that UND should be competing and in every game left on the schedule. And obviously because I'm a UND supporter, I expect UND to pull each game out as a win. The coaching staff and team should have the same mindset, particularly because these are all conference games that UND should EXPECT to win moving forward this season and all other seasons.

  14. So right now we have 11 verbal commits for next year. It seems like we usually might have 1 or 2 or maybe none. Can we read anything into it? Does it mean we are being more successful or are we just signing kids early or some of both. Any thoughts.

Kids are all local and fit the new identity of the team: defense and physical line play. I suspect a changing of the guard here. Very few worries about these kids leaving early because they've committed early meaning they're satisfied with the atmosphere the new staff has created. Mussman just had too many busts and early departures from his recruiting classes to be successful.

  15. I think Bubba and company will make sure that they stayed focus on the task at hand. Chance to get to .500 in conference and overall play, 1st road win of the year, chance to keep building momentum to EWU, and that small..... small chance at the playoffs if they win out.

I am expected them to take it to SUU and I will be extremely disappointed if they do not win next week. I'm expected the best performance of the year on both offense and defense

Don't listen to the "herdz" fans; if UND wins out, they'll be a playoff team.

As for this matchup, it will be a close game, but UND's defense should be the difference if the game is played disciplined (no turnovers, penalties, etc.). Have to hope the bye week will come in handy.
