Just as this occurs in GF's, it occurs in Fargo with Bisonville. Knowing that, assuming it happens everywhere is not that far of a stretch. I think of it as the media relying on the collective intelligence and or knowledge of the biggest fans of a given team. Not that bad of an idea for a source or a story when your investigative or other resources are somewhat limited, but there is little chance of the media giving credit for this type of a source or story--they just are not going to acknowledge that, at least for the time being. The good thing is, I don't need to buy the Herald or the Forum just to read the sports sections, and the other "news" contained in other sections is really history from the day before that one can obtain, for the most part, by watching the world and local nightly news broadcasts.

I agree. It seems as though there is that constant whine coming from that corner--kinda like the sqeaky wheel gets the oil. Student concerns are brushed off in a "oh, what do they know" fashion.

State support of higher ed = lower tuition, or at least controlling it. Gov. D's proposad budget called for a influx of monies to ND colleges and universities which, had it not been cut by the house, would have "froze" tuition for at least two years.

Yes, yes he is. Also, I am wondering whether the MD posters on this thread take the same position on spending "cuts" relative to medicaid and medicare reimbursment???

OK, I will go along with that premise, but what about the posts that follow. They didn't stick to that agenda, I come on here and point some basic stuff out (ya, with some smack innnertwined, and now I am the only "bad guy"--not saying you are treating me that way, but certainly others are). BTW, I agree this NDSU baseball player effed up big time and put other peoples' lives at risk, just as all drunk drivers do, although most don't run into houses I don't think. FYI, assuming he had permission to drive the Rover, the liability insurance on the Rover will cover the damage to the home. If your friends with your neighbor, you may want to tell him that. -

I get it. You guys can smack talk about NDSU athletes, but don't want to be challenged when doing so. Got it. And, very typical, I might add. Nice senior picture/avatar too!! -

No, I had better things to do. Can you provide a link to the interview with Kristo, his parents, the coach or the UND spokesperson perhaps? If it is easier, just link me to the Herald article on the interviews if you want. Thanks in advance. -
ND Senate Education to have hearing to Keep our Fighting Sioux name/lo

Why does it seem odd to me that this thread was started under the "Men's hockey" topic and not the "Sioux name" topic???!!! -

No dispatch logs if a crime isn't reported--hmmmmm?!!!! If this was a UND hockey player, you all would be saying "But, but maybe the road was not properly signed, maybe he just didn't know his way around, we haven't seen to "official" blood test results yet, etc." -

But you nor anyone on ss.com has ever done that--right!!!? Also, no "self-inflicted" injuries that could end his career, but, your world my friend! Oh, and no attempted cover-up by the Fargo media or NDSU--just sayin! How's Kristo doing btw??!! Haven't heard much from the GF media or UND--hmmm??!! -

There is an entire thread on BV on this topic--like you didn't know that. At least he stayed in his vehicle, rather than attempting to walk home in sub-zero temps, and thereby avoided frostbite. Funny how a drunk NDSU baseball player has more intelligence that a "sober", underage, UND hockey player, isn't it?!!! -
Star2: You know as well as I do that the vast, vast majority over on BV still question Vigen, still question Bohl for not making an off-season OC position, and that the jury is still out on the Bison's offense. We won in the PO's and latter part of the season because our D played very well, and we were just flat out more physical on offense then RM or MSU could handle with their defenses, and EWU had a difficult time with that as well, Our offensive play calling changed very little, and, when it did, it was because of DC suggested a play to our OC that he and our D were having a difficult time defending. Neither Bohl nore Vigen were considered the second coming of J.C., especially after the EWU game when some terrible offensive calls were made late in the game--which we lost as a result. But, it is true that most of us thought we would not make the playoffs after that horrible loss to Mizzu State where we scored Zero points against the worst D in the MVFC. If the Sioux can get their offense on track and be physical, they will do just fine in the Big Sky IMO, and the Big Sky may have to adjust their traditional manner of playing.

Is it possible UND will hire the same firm as the Big 10 did to help with the divisions and new names for them--I think it was the "Leaders and Legends" for the division names.
-
I see--"Task Groups", the third, yet to be announced/selected, will by charged with the responsibility of suggesting new nickname/logo. Don't you think Kelley will include alumni and fans once some names are suggested? I can't believe he would make an isolated decision on such a huge issue for UND.
-
OK? But nothing in that thread says anything about commitees, and I know I read something about two commitees being formed. No??
-
I thought there have been two committees appointed. One to assist with the retirement of the nickname, and they other to help in the process of selecting a new one. My further understanding is that the latter committee was commissioned to come up with several alternatives. Did I miss something, or did I misunderstand what is going on?

Cal-Poly was ranked in or near the top 10 in last FCS poll after the playoffs this year. Not that polls mean that much, but obviously many voters saw something they liked. Beating Idaho there after getting whooped 45-egg last year is a big leap of faith. You should beat Drake/no-schollies, and you should beat all non-DI teams, the rest could go either way as I see it. It's even possible you may lose to some of the non-DI teams, as they will be giving you there best "little guy" shot>

And the "Medical School" is a seperately funded program--just sayin!!
-
"Indians in Medicine" and other programs with "incentives" or lower qualifications/academic scores certainly help. The question is, why do the naysayer NA's/Indians not recognize what UND does for them, instead of focusing on the mascot/nickname issue?? And, why does this not get brought up in the overall conversation about the mascot/logo issue?? Answer: Because people are too skeeered of the PC crowd. I, myself, call BS!!

Wasn't there UND sorority or frat party a few years ago with a "Cowboys & Indian" theme that caught some attention??
