My money would be on Weslowski vs Kangas or Patterson. I also think that SCSU is going to come to play. They will look at it as giant killing. Biggest thing now is not to limp in, but build momentum. CC limped in last year with a poor showing at the F5 and they were one and done.

UMD getting swept really helped the Goofs I would think. Even if they get in, they are not a team that i worry about. Although I don't want to see them again, especially on their home ice. It is tough to beat a rival 3 times in a season. I worry more about CC and Wisconsin that DU or MN.

As for the Greene Commodore deal, it doesn't matter if they'd played together, in the heat of battle you do what you have to do. They are professionals now. It isn't personal, and I am sure they will joke about it if they meet up in the off season. They both have jobs to do that are playing physical and protecting their teammates. It was a clean fight, totally within the code. Greene landed a bunch of decent shots, Commy ended it with a big right. Good fight, clean, fair. No repercusions.

Bucky always gives us fits in their building...We've been swept by Wisconsin many times in the last few years...even our 2004 MacNaughton Cup championship team with Parise and the next year with our NCAA runner up team with Zajac and Stafford were swept by Wisconsin. THe style has always given us trouble. I am not worried about this loss. We did not have out ususal offensive output because of Sconny's style and play. Win two against Tech on our home ice, have a good performance at the X, then its a 4 game tournament for the big hardware.

If he's Yoda, can I be Lando? -
I don't think it will turn them much. It won;t flip the individual comparisons in those games, and it won't help us in RPI, teams are all decent...we need to win and CC needs to win,

A Sioux win and a Denver loss tonight will put the Sioux in a 4 way tie for #4 in the PWR With Denver, Vermont and Northeastern. Interesting stat that I hope is telling: UND has the second best TUC record of the top 25 after BU, and only Denver has played more TUCs. Also only BU and (unfortunately) UMD have the H2H vs the Sioux. What does this mean? Not much...its paper, but it gives me confidence come tournament time.

I didn't think this team had it. I am not a bandwagon fan, it hurt to lose...I am happy eating crow out of the MacNaughton Cup! -
Correction, a lot of very good MacNaughton Cup Champion players

Nice gritty win. THis game like so many others, was decided by the play of our third and fourth lines. They weren't in the boxscore, but they won the game. Hope Kozek is alright, I didn't see him much after he went into the boards hard. Is Watkins this year's Porter? He is scoring big goals. I'm still not happy with some of the sloppy d play in our own end. Vande...another clutch goal. It was a goal scorer"s goal, nice patience. Big win, let's not let up. No more losses...9 to go...

You can't dominate every game. I think this team has had several dominant performances against pretty good teams: We've POUNDED Minnesota, Denver and Cornell (all well above average squads) and when I say pounded, I mean POUNDED. I think the only games we've mailed in were at the GLI, and that was because the routine was all screwed up. I also was at the SCSU game, and I think Dunc had something like 10 shots in that game with several from his spot. Normally at least 2 or 3 of those go in. The game is dynamic, momentum swings are huge in hockey. Maybe more so than in any other sport. Anyway, the boys will be ready to play.

SIOUX Recruits - 2008-09 Updates, Monitoring Their Junior League Play

Why? I don't see anything about a vicious facewash anywhere... -
Interesting, 3 teams have won the MacNaughton Cup 3 years in a row: UND, CC, and Bowling Green (when Tech took the cup to the CCHA).

MacNaughton Cup From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search The MacNaughton Cup is a trophy awarded annually to the regular season conference champion of the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). The trophy is named after James MacNaughton of Calumet, Michigan, who was an avid supporter of amateur ice hockey. The Cup is hand crafted of pure silver and stands almost three-feet high and weighs nearly 40 pounds

every Joe Finley hater should look at McBain's +/- and realize that would be Chay's if Joe didn't always cover
-
Yes, a wounded badger is indeed formidable. The title is not a foregone conclusion, and I guarantee you Hak has not let the boys think that.

Schroeder is the most talented player in the WCHA IMO. I agree with the posters that CC's top line is the best in the WCHA. I contend the UND's 3rd and 4th lines are the best in the WCHA and that is why we've won. I think our 1st and second lines are middle of the pack, and our defensive corps is very good (second half of the year). I think Duncs could care less. He's already got an MVP and a Hobey, what he doesn't have is a MacNaughton Cup. A championship is worth more than every individual accolade imagineable combined. That being said, most voters are blinded by individual stats. My vote for league MVP would actually have to be Alex Stalock. UMD is (at present) in the field of 16 for the NCAAs, UMD has one really good player and one good line (not great) and falls off dramatically. That team is where it is due to Alex Stalock.

I don't think it has to do with the system. It has to do with preparation and focus. I think it is almost marine corps esque... Break the boys down and then build them all up together as one unit. I am one of those early ledge walkers. I will never accept being put on or off a bandwagon. I am always a Sioux fan. You can still be a fan and complain. Fans do not equal cheerleaders. I have very much enjoyed this team provingnme wrong.

Bucky's going to come out flying on Friday. We'd better be 100% locked in. You'd better believe those seniors in Red are going to remember how their season ended in Madison last year. Kohl center will be hostile and abusive. Friday night all you need to do is win. I think the boys should pack the black Nike Swifts and show mad town some real black ice.
-
I have to believe that playing the extra period both nights against an opponent of CC's caliber probably really helped the legs. You can practice and condition 24-7, but until you go game speed for 128 in a weekend you don't know what you've got for wheels.
-
We're a two seed right now, 7th in PWR. Side note, how do you think that the Alaska trip, going to OT 3 of the lat 4 games and playing a saturday/sunday will impact the performance on Friday? Its a short practice week, but there probably isn't much need for a conditioning or contact practice based on having played that much hockey recently. If I were Hak I'd really be working the powerplay. We were close to amazing a couple times this weekend, but fell short...a couple too many passes on the goalmouth, etc. Playoff hockey tends to be won with special teams. My practices would be: Tonight: PP Tuesday: breakout and odd mans Wednesday: PK Thursday: PP

I also liked how Marty deliberately put in shots of Toews, Chorney, Oshie, and Lee in his slide show. Teammates forever I guess. This is a group of guys who deserve to hang a banner: Marty played 2 games as a freshman and 20 as a sophomore. He is now a 10 goal man and a rock on a third line that just dominates other third lines. This is a college hockey success story, the kind they make movies about. Miller is a guy who didn't find a home until this year on D. Kept working and coming to practice, in one week out the next, first line one week fourth the next. This year he is one of the top scoring dmen in the WCHA. Big Joe came to school as a first round pick and was quickly overshadowed by Brian Lee and Taylor Chorney's offensive skill. Not many Sioux players have been scapegoated as much as Joe. How did he respond? He became the league's top plus minus man last year and a team leader. Big Joe saves Chay's bacon and stands up for his teammates. I'll take Joe on my team any day of the week. Duncs, man what do you say? The little engine that could who just DID. Hobey Baker. Let's watch the guy that so many experts said owed his success to guys named Oshie and Toews hang the first banner in the Ralph since 2004 as THE offensive leader on this hockey club. Perseverence, humility, drive and success...Ryan Duncan defines Sioux hockey. Andrew Kozek...never knew what line he was going to play on. The guy with the heaviest wrister in NCAA hockey who when asked plays a checkers role. Who can forget Andrew's hat trick against DU last year or his hard hat goal in OT vs Wisconsin. Most guys with Andrew's offensive ability would never do some of the things that Hak has asked Andrew to do. He does it. Zach Jones, the rock steady blackout raging stay at home defenseman. I'll remember him best with a Badger in each hand during that scrum last year, and who can forget his first and only career goal? Matt Watkins makes me think mustache. The hard working, faster than hell forward always contributes and always does his job. A great penalty killer and an asset on both ends of the ice. Every team needs a guy like Watty and every team would love to have Watty. Aaron Walski showed up and backed up. He got a few starts early in the year. Hey, the guy got a shutout in his first NCAA start! Showing up, being a teammate, contributing his best. Thanks Aaron. Thanks for the memories class of 2009! The last four years have been four of my favorite in 30! How about hanging two banners next fall! Keep it up boys.

I'm going with RPI as the tie breaker, that is what I have known to be true. Manchester 1. BU 16. BSU 8. NH (host) 10. Cornell (swapped with 9 Yale as Yale is a host) Bridgeport 2. NtD 15. AF 7. UND 9. Yale (swapped with 10 Cornell to be a host) Grand Rapids 3. MI 13. UMD (swapped with OSU to avoid first round intraconference) 6. Vt 11. Miami Minneapolis 4. DU 14. tOSU (swapped with UMD to avoid first round intraconference) 5. NE 12. Princeton They might consider swapping NE and UMD for attendance in Mpls, but the integrity of the bracket tends to be the most important

I don't know, I saw two teams that can really get up and down the rink. I will say that our passing was slightly off. The F5 is going to be nuts if teams like WI, MN and CC all have to win or go golfing.

I'm not tracking Goon...are you saying that CC isn't really that good, but we were just off after being up in Anchorage?
