One win helps, but two wins is big. They each have 1 game remaining with Harvard and COrnell. We have to assume that they win both to keep fate in our hands. With Princeton, if they win both and we sweep MSU-M we still tie in COP and lose the PWR.
-
Its gotta be a sweep against MSU-M. COP for Yale and Princeton.
-
The PWR is fickle. Chances are good that if we sweep the Land Cows they will no longer be a TUC. However a sweep is our best chance at flipping both Princeton and Yale (COP). The biggest problem this year is that we (UND) and the rest of the WCHA haven't performed out of conference. We have a losing record against Hockey East and the CCHA which hurts. We have a winning record against the EZAC, but numerous EZAC schools appear to be benefitting significantly from not playing anyone. Most PWR vs EZAC are not counting the TUC category, because the EZAC teams haven"t played 10 games against TUCs. While this helps them get in, it should lead to 1 and done once there.
-
All things staying somewhat constant, that WI series is going to be the biggest series of theyear as with COP for NH and BC as well as the rest of the WCHA teams ahead of us.

I have to believe that both Shattuck and USNTDP do not count as "high school". Mattson has very good skill, but he is not an NHL first rounder like the Osh and Kessel and Parise and Toews. I think that a year in the USHL would make a big difference in his case.
-
I bet the over too. I think we've got too many weapons for Clown to handle. Much like MN, their first line can play with anyone, but after that it will be all Sioux.
-
Garrett Roe draws 4 penalties due to his incredible diving, on the fifth attempt he falls onto his own stick, near the Sioux net, rupturing his spleen and causing him to miss the rest of the season. Finley, despite being on the bench at the time, is given a game misconduct for spearing. Despite these issues, the Sioux suck it up and pull of a tough 4-3 win. The icing on the cake is when Motzko being quoted as saying, "What can anyone expect when you have to play the Fighting Sioux and the officials?"
-
"Sioux FIghters" and minor league entertainment? All I can say is wow! Losing 3 out of 4 points really hurts, eh?
-
sorry jim, I hadn't looked that closely. SS lays out in order using tie breakers (rpi) uscho simply counts PWR wins. The guts are the same. UND and BC both have 11 PWR, labeled as T-14 by uscho. BC has a higher RPI, so is 14, und is 15

I don't know that song. SOrry

THose two GLI losses do really hurt the RPI. It seems that great wins help the RPI some, but bad losses destroy it. With you on the keep winning. As long as we keep winning, we are in the driver's seat. Anyone know why USCHO and SS.com have different PWR? Is one more updated than the other?

Kozey was injured, so maybe he aggravated his leg in Friday's game? I don't know. He is a legitimate scoring threat everytime he is on the ice, and he certainly isn't afraid to play the body. I actually think that he and little Toews were starting to show some chemistry too. The Lapoint question is an interesting one. I have been openly critical of his play many times. Is it a situation where we need him to get game speed reps to try and develop for next year? The problem is he doesn't seem to be improving. More than one time this weekend he looked desperate and panicked out there. In our end when we need to break the puck out, he tends to either chip it or play hot potatoe with it and send it over to Marto. At this level you have to make decisions quickly, but it seems that he makes them too quickly and doesn't make good decisions. I don't want to rip the kid, but he seems to be really uncomfortable in our end, especially against an aggressive forecheck. I also know that the 5 straight penalties took a toll on the legs, but it seemed like we were out of gas in the third period. In the playoffs you have to play 6 periods in a weekend in 5th gear. I think we played 3 in 5th, 2 in 3rd, and 1 in 2nd. I hope none of the boys read this and come hunt me down, but If I were Hak, this might be a conditioning Tuesday practice.

I lied. COrnell would have enough TUCs when compared to other teams (not UND). H2H is removed from TUC when two TUCs play, so the 1-1 vs UND will give COrnell enough TUCs against others, but it won't count in our individual PWR against them. There is a lot of parity this year in NCAA hockey. I think that BU is sick, THe pundits seem to like Notre Dame, but I haven't seen them play. DU with Bozak back will be a legitimate threat.
-
Don't they play Thunderstruck by ACDC? I am trying to remember. I do kno whtye do In the Air TOnight by Phil COllins, but you've mentioned that one.

I was wondering when this thread would show up. The PWR is not perfect. The TUC category doesn't count unless both teams have at least 10 games played against teams under consideration. For example, UND has played 15 games against teams under consideration for the tournament. We are 8-5-2. Princeton, 9th in PWR, has played 5 games against teams under consideration. COrnell has also only played 5 TUCs. Assuming TUCs stay the same, Cornell will not have played enough TUCs to have that factor into their PWR against anyone. This is sad, as they would currently be a #1 seed. We can definitely flip UMD, as they win the tie breaker with RPI by .0052. Sioux keep winning, and that RPI will go up. If we draw them in the WCHA playoffs, we will have the opportunity to win and flip as well. New Hamp[shire also wins the tiebreaker by way of an identical, flippable, .0052 in RPI. TUCs also change at the bottom this time of year, and I wouldn';t be surprised to see some changes as to who is considered a TUC. Mankato is just outside the top 25. Anyway, winning against any team in a scenario that helps RPI can boost the PWR. KRACH is much better, but PWR is what we've got. Win the F5 and go to the NCAAs. THat has to be the mantra of the team right now.

We can only worry about ourselves in the PWR. Keep winning and things will work out. Win the WCHA F5 and we're in automatically. That has to be our approach. It is a different situation this year. OVer the last couple years we hav ebeen out of the McNaughton race, but sitting pretty in the PWR. The early non-conference performance has driven that in both directions, positive in year's past, and outside looking in now. It is often stated that PWR is not as accurate as KRACH, and that certainly appears to be true. The Sioux team that shellacked MN, DU and Cornell for 30 goals is not he team that couldn't buy a goal vs UMASS We've come a long way this year. We still have a long ways to go. I agree that having Kozey out there makes that 4th line a legitimate scoring line. To DU's credit, they shut down our pp and shut down the top line last night. BE was the star of the game, but Chevrie also played extremely well. The paddle save on Hexy's wide open net in the first was big. I believe it would'v ebeen 2-0 Sioux at the time if it went in.

We can still improve out PWR as it relates to the COP category. Every game that any TUC has with one of our COPs makes a difference. Gwoz's antics have to be considered by the league. You can not have a coach leave the bench. It is unacceptable. The official shouldn't even have spoken to him, but had security escort him out. Players wear letters on their jerseys to consult the officials and report back to their bench. Sioux didn't have it tonight. Denver outskated us and beat us to the loose pucks. I agree that BE stole this one for us. I don't know if it was curious George's antics or what, but we were not on our game. Having to kill all those penalties in the third basically killed our legs. I'd like to have that 4 on 3 situation back. A goal there probably changes the rest of the game.

Sioux winning is very tasty crow

I am not very well informed on the actual play of these recruits. Are any of them true centermen? It seems that we will need a natural playmaking pivot to come in. Duncs is doing an admirable job centering that top line despite it not being his natural position.

Biggest series of the year. Not only does it put us in the driver's seat for the WCHA title and first round at home, but it will ripple across the PWR. We keep winning, we keep climbing. It's that simple. Very pleased to see Marto stepping up. His goals were snipes on Sat. The kid has always impressed me with his skating. It is nice to see him get rewarded for hard work, and it means a ton to the team to have Jake producing offensively. It means we have 3 d-pairings with guys who are legitimate scoring threats on the blue line: Jake, Chay and Miller. I have to believe that having Big Joe starting to play to form takes a huge load off guys like Marto and Lapoint. They can play "their" game now and not have as much pressure. Denver might be the only team in the WCHA as deep as we are. If we win it will be due to the play of the 3rd and 4th lines. DU's top two lines can definitely light it up, so if our top two lines play even hockey with them, look to the Zajac, Martens, Watkins, Toews, Kozek players to be the heroes. I'd really like to see Watty get out of his scoring slump. The guy has worked hard and gotten some great opportunities through that hard work, but is just snake bit. All that said, the top two lines have to bring their "A" games too. BE is going to be tested big time. He needs to control those rebounds. That seems to be his biggest opportunity for improvement. Let's hope the shutout gave him the confidence he needs to get in the zone. Big Joe and Rage Black Out need to manhandle the shifty Denver forwards, clear the front of the net and tie up their men. Forwards have to be prepared to help out too and put pressure on Denver's point men, get them to turn it over on both ends of the ice. Man, I'm excited for this one. As pessimistic as I was early on, I am seeing something pretty special in this team. They didn't have the big expectations like those teams that looked like the NHL young stars game. They are winning as a team, not as a single line.
