c'mon, you know what i'm saying...there are ways to play the puck and ways to get hit. Everyone who's ever played knows that. You have to protect yourself out there and not put yourself in bad situations. Ever heard of a suicide pass? You let the puck go. It is better than getting killed. It was a penalty. I've stated so. As such, I fault the CC player. Five minutes is just too many for me in that situation. Cross checks to the head in a scrum get two. A punch with helmet and gloves on...two. A Minnesota facewash...two. As a former player, and a parent, I understand it. It is hard to watch, but to potentially change the outcome of a game based on that? It didn't stop a scoring chance. It wasn't from behind. It wasn't even overly violent. If you want violence out of the game, watch soccer or join the band.

NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

I agree with boarding (and said so) I disagree with it being five. The onus for safety is on all players, but agree with the hitter being responsible and thus my support of a two minute call. You can't call penalties because of how a player reacts to an action, you need to call penalties because of the action. Again, I agree with a two minute boarding call. The Minnesota player did not receive the hit well, and as a result it appears worse than it is. I disagree with five minutes- it was clearly not an intent to injure and it clearly was not a check from behind. I have to admit, the rules are changing, and what is being called now is not what was called 18 years ago when I played. I also am biased for the physical side of the sport. I wouldn't call five. I would call two for boarding.

To me it was 2 for boarding. The Gopher player has responsibility not to get killed too. It was a dangerous place on the ice, but the hit was from the side. I call 2 there. I also believe that hockey is a very violent sport, where if you didn't want to get hit violently, you probably should've joined the band instead. Nobody wants to see anyone hurt, but you can't take the physicality out of the game. You also have to learn to take a check correctly so you don't get killed out there.

Nelson probably wishes he was here too... If you're not in the show, you might as well be in college...

The rope-a-dope? I do think its wise to have a couple of surprises in the old bag this time of year. Our keys to success will be: secondary scoring. Teams will try and play shutdown against Knight and Kristo. SCSU (Hanowski) said it was their game plan: Don't let Kristo and Knight beat you. Aggressive forechecking. Control the zone play and time of possession . Get shots on net. Throw everything at the net, bodies, pucks, everything. Fast feet on the blue line- hold the zone, manage gaps, win races. Compete. Every player working in every zone. Communicate. Put bodies on people. Leave it all on the ice. There is no tomorrow if you lose. Keep it simple: short passes, give and go-s,

Are all NCAA tourney games on NHL ice this year? No big sheets?

No idea why...

Do you think they packed the blacks for Saturday? If they win...

Face offs will play an important role as well, putting Easy Mac on the top line puts two legit centers on that line. Second line with Carter and Rocco gets you the same thing. Important to think about as guys will get tossed, and having a good alternate draw man could be clutch. So, that said, I have my final decision: knight with Kristo and easy Mac, Rowney with Parks and Rocco, Pattyn with drake and Colten. We can easily swap Rocco and easy Mac if we need instant offense. Hopefully this time off has helped Simpson heal up. Simpson and Mac truck will be loggin a ton of minutes... Key question: if its Zane, how is his head and his confidence? We don't need him to steal us one, but if he can make all the normal saves, not give up a bad goal, and maybe stop one or two high probability scoring chances, that should give us a good shot at winning.

I just did my best wookie howl...not sure how to type that

Are people getting together in the Twin Cities? I'm debating joining a crowd vs sitting at home...

Good interview by Danny- no bulletin board material. Loved that he called out the "let's go sioux" chant at the X...that was awesome

We need Rocco to "go off" this weekend...he is so overdue its crazy.

I think we played good enough to win vs a hungry CC team. We certainly looked better than the Goofs... Sunday against MTU was pure dominance. 5 of the 7 series we played pre-WCHA playoffs were against NCAA tourney teams. We essentially played .500 (going 3-4-3). I guess what I am saying is that we are battle tested. We are not coming in on a monster run. We are not a dominant force. However, we can skate with anybody on any given night.

I also like the idea of "Mo" and I don't mean Mike Modano (although he would also be useful for us). If we have a big offensive zone face-off or need to up the energy, it is a boost to move Rocco up to the first line. Maybe that is the method to the madness. I just don't think that we can continue with O'Donnell on that line...it isn't working.
-
I guarantee you that if we are down in the third, Rocco and Danny will be double shifted, meaning Drake will log ice time with the first and second units when Kristo and Grimaldi are gassed.
-
I don't think you lose much offense trading Gaarder and Pattyn, but Pattyn is much, much stronger. I like that between St. Clair and Drake. I really liked the forecheck, and both Colten (and especially) Drake can score you a goal.

We're 6-6-5 against the field and playing .500 in our last 4 games...its that time of year where every team is good...
