  1. I'm fine with our fourth forward line banging with DU's skill guys just as long as we have our best defensive d-pairing out against them.
  2. I vote for the business suits today. Seems like the right time. Just that little extra jump.
  3. I hear ya, but I really like Davidson on the off Kristo wing...Fourth line could be Mario, Dickin, and Rodwell I suppose. That enough grit for ya? Bottom line is 3 periods of hockey for a trip to the Frozen Four. Can't let DU dictate the style of game this becomes.
  4. I'd say Rowney centers Kristo and Davidson and they put Gleason out with Mario and Rodwell.
  5. Seeing the duplicate numbers on attendance means that they counted total gate not game by game...so 12,695 people over two sites and 4 games... kinda sad. Now, weekday afternoon games are tough to get a read on as many fans are at work. You could have conference champions host their regionals...adds to the thrill of the conference tourney that way too. Rotate which 4 conferences host on a yearly basis. I would like them to change the format to look more like the WJC, maybe make it best 2 outta 3 too. Round Robin in pool play, then onto the real tournament. Those that DNQ for the tourney could be sent to an NIT tourney. Shorter regular season, longer playoffs.
  6. I am wearing my lucky cowboy boots!
  7. Sioux have a .6818 win% (7-3-1) against remaining tourney teams (that we've played): Denver, Notre Dame, Duluth, CC. Go Sioux!!
  8. First shift needs to show these guys what Sioux hockey is: Pony win the draw clean back to Chay, Chay walk around one defender, gain the blue line and flip it deep, Pony and Frattin then throttle the defenders with an aggressive forecheck down low, get the puck back out to Chay on the point, then Pony to the front of the net for a screen, Trupper on the half wall, Frattin on the dot, Chay fake pass to Frattin then over to Trupper on the opposite wing, Trupper slap pass through the Malone screen over to Frattin on the far post, goal. Physical dominance and top end skill: Sioux Hockey!
  9. Call me myopic or call me insensitive or even an elitist, but I don't really care about the good of the sport, nor do I care about how many NCAA tournament bids there are: 12 instead of 16? Big deal... I care about Sioux hockey. As my friends who don't follow hockey have been saying for years "who's in the tourney this year? MN, UND, BU, BC, New Hampshire, Maine, Michigan?" Most years he's batting .750. Big programs in niche markets dominate the game.
  10. That is why I said it is impossible to back into the number using points and caveated my calculation as an approximation. You are correct that there could be a bunch of offsets outside the score sheet. I counted 39 total goals against with #5 on the ice (all situations including pk where no +/- is awarded)
  11. Focus on one particular aspect each shift: Centers focus on winning draws, wingers establish a relentless forecheck, dmen get pucks deep...it's really a simple game. We do those things, we'll score some goals. I agree with not getting too cute, as good as the Pony Express is, I've seen them get cutesy with the puck.
  12. I have no idea about tourney only. I was thinking total rev.
  13. Football is 1, Basketball is 2...hockey is wayyyyy down the list. Only in a few markets does it encroach on those top 2.
  14. As to Chay being on the ice when a lot of goals are scored (responding to lomack who BNS responded to above). Chay had 32 points and 16 powerplay points. So, that leaves 16 even up points that impact +/-. It is impossible to back into the correct number, but a close approximation would mean that if he is +7 and scored 16 even strength points, then he was on the ice for 9 opponents' goals scored against on even strength. 9! 9! That is not a lot in 30ish games, he was on the ice for an even strength goal against every other weekend. The horror. He is one of the most dynamic players in the league. I am glad he is our captain.
  15. The TV timeouts help the lungs and make a little difference on the legs, these guys are great athletes, so they can skate all day. Four lines helps by limiting a little of the pounding you might otherwise take. It will make a difference on Sunday most certainly. TV timeouts impact flow and momentum more than they have impact on the condition of the players.
  16. IMO it is all about "compete" right now. We have all of the pieces, but we need to win individual battles, a loose puck should be as good as ours. Agree with the poster on having Marto on D. Our best team has Marto on the blueline. Execute on the little details: We weren't as good on the faceoffs last weekend, and the Knight and Trupper open nets need to get burried this time of year. Those guys fiish 99% of the time. They need to focus. fast legs win games this time of year, so keep em fresh and keep the feet moving.
  17. This was well thought out and well written. The Big 10 move hurts us and hurts the WCHA. We can not act in the interest of all here, rather we must be self serving in order to preserve that which we've earned. Otherwise the "Gopher Reject" chant that is applicable to UMD, BSU, MSU, SCSU will soon be a "Big 10 Reject" chant and will be applicable to UND.
  18. Anybody heard anything about live coverage in the twin cities? I'd imagine that Senser's could pull it up...they can probably project internet if need be or grab a satellite feed. I need to know if I am staying in town or heading west on 94 or buying a plane ride to Green Bay...
  19. That was a great little video. We've all known the Big 10 conference was coming. It is now about how do we position ourselves as UND on the go-forward. We are blessed with ridiculous tradition and the finest facility on Earth for amateur hockey. We have a history of developing pro players including two players that right now (when healthy) would be considered among the 20 or so best players in the world (Toews and Parise). So what do we do? Well, my first concern is with recruiting and what it means to lose the potential of upwards of 8-11 games against MN and WI per year (includes playoffs). That's a lot of very visible hockey where future SIoux see what Sioux hockey is all about. Especially those future Sioux living in Minnesota, of which our championship teams are littered with...Can we recruit when we are not on FSN for an average of 4-5 games per year playing the Gophers as the big green menace? I don't know, but I would worry about it... Can you keep a rivalry where you might only see the other team in the national playoffs or a scheduled tournament or a non-conference game? I think not...Minnesota and Michigan or Michigan State comes to mind right now...They aren't MN rivals. Ask a MN fan who their biggest rival is and you'll get two answers: Wisconsin will say the avid MN sports fan. North Dakota will say the MN hockey fan. Michigan and Michigan State aren't even on the list to anyone...MN can't compete with those teams in football or hoops, so many don't even think about them. Let's talk about history: The Wisconsin battles of the early 80's were epic. The Minnesota battles of the 2000's were just as epic. Those rivalries built a legacy of tradition that resulted in multiple national titles and a rabid (yet relatively small) niche of fanatics. Those teams HATED each other, the games were filled with unbelievable heroics-Broten, Wheeler, Porter, gross barbarism- water bottle incident, FInley and Wheeler, and tremendous skill (Vanek, Parise, Chelios) . The mutual hate was supplanted only by mutual respect. I still stand by the best college hockey game that I ever saw was MN vs UND at the X for the 2004 (I think) Final Five championship...MN won a one goal, high scoring, race horse game. In the new world, that game doesn't happen. How many college hockey fans did that game produce? Our goal does not change based on conference alignment. Our goal remains to field the finest amateur hockey team in the world. This is just another barrier to overcome in doing so. That, and the Big 10 can go to hell.
  20. You ROCK! wish we were going, but tv it will be
  21. This team found a way to win even down some regulars (including our #2 scorer) and not bringing our best game. That's the heart that a champion has to have. We can do this. I believe.
  22. RPI Rankings: 24th in KRACH, 18th in RPI, 15th in the PWR, 18th in USCHO poll. Finished 6th in the ECAC regular season. Notable wins: Union, BU, Yale Notable losses: CC, Union, Yale With a Strength of Schedule ranked 45th, they have not played many games against the upper echelon of 2010-2011 college hockey teams. Offensively: They have 4 players with 20+ points, lead by Sr and former Holy Angels forward Chase Polacek with 21 goals and 27 helpers (only 8 of those goals were scored 5x5). The #2 is Sr Tyler Helfrich with 14 goals and 24 assists (9 scored 5x5). Defenseman Nick Bailen is a smaller offensive defenseman with 8 goals and 28 assists (5 scored 5x5). note, they have no one with double digit goals scored 5x5. Defensively: RPI has several large dmen and what appears to be a solid goalie in Jr Allen York 2.04 GAA and .927 SV%. I'm not sure how mobile these defenders are, but they are good sized. Looks like a key is to jump on them early and put them behind (11 of the 12 games they lost, they were either down or tied after 1). They aren't going to want to run and gun with us, and they certainly lack our depth of scoring threats.
  23. ...brings back memories of the longest lacrosse game in NCAA history...
