Lou Nanne "sick" over the Gophers not playing UND...Lou knows that watching a series between us is watching college hockey at its absolute finest... Say what you want homers each way, but rarely in the college game do you see the combination of skill, physicality, and passion that this series has brought. It is tragic not to play every year. Neither team "needs" the other for prestige or revenue, but college hockey needs the series- how many blue chippers that have chosen college hockey were sold on either UND or UMN based on a head to head? Prince Albert Raiders vs Saskatoon Blades or UND vs UMN at Mariucci or The Ralph...UND and UMN are not only recruiting against each other and the Boston schools and Michigan, etc but maybe more importantly against the CHL. Rivalry gotten "too heated" ala Big Joe and Wheeler, Tony Lucia, Kangas' cell phone, tDon's daughter, Hak flipping the bird, Frattin hit, nickname issue in scheduling, supporting smaller MN schools- all excuses- the series should've been locked down. If my source is right, which I believe to be the case, the sooner Guentzel takes the reigns at Minnesota, the better the program will be and the better college hockey will be. The Broten goal, the Wheeler goal, the Trupper goal, the Porter goal...Parise, Toews, Greene, Oshie, Martin, Ballard, Okposo, Wheeler...c'mon tDon...let the boys play some big time hockey!!!!!!
-
Have it on good account that UND officially offered to play Minnesota "anyway, anytime" over the next few years including 4 consecutive in Mariucci or a neutral site of Minnesota's choosing over the next 2 or 3 years with revenue sharing components of the deal favoring Minnesota. tDon vetoed.

Isn't Tambellini a center man?
-
I thought they played well together last year. Cags was definitely at his best with Rocco.
-
Playing center at the next level is hard...even Toews didn't play center much as a frosh. Tambellini and Johnson can get spelled by Mark Mac playing pivot early in the year. I think we're crazy if we split up Rocco and Cags or Mark Mac and Parks To me, Tambellini and Murphy round out those top two lines- Third line has Johnson, OD, and St. Clair written all over it, if OD can get his game back Energy will have Pattyn and Rodwell and then a dog fight for that final winger- Gaarder certainly has heart, and Mitch Mac can skate...Chyzyk has some scoring upside...then there's the new guys... After Simpson and Schmaltz, I don't have a clue at who will play on D two nights per weekend. I think it will be a rotation early.
-
My guess: Mark Mac, Parks, and Tambellini Rocco, Caggiula, and Murphy Johnson, St Clair, and O'Donnell Pattyn, Rodwell, and Mitch Mac/Gaarder/Chyzyk/Sanderson Not sure on D

As a little boy, running from by the park to the rink in thirty below with my dad. Archie, the Farce, wars with Wisconsin, wars with Minnesota, dead rodents, the Hrkac Circus, in heaven there is no beer, the concourse thick with cigarette smoke- what a place it was for me in the 80's

Its a business, and you can quit your contract anytime. Its called at-will employment. Your employer can end it and you can end it. Contracts are not indentured servitude. You can walk anytime and forego your comp. Would you rather have a $10 mil player who wasn't into it? I think it is more honest of Ilya to walk.

Man, back in those early years in Chicago, I LOVED JR. The man was a 50 goal player who hit everything that moved. He played TJ Oshie's college game in the NHL...which shows the incredible talent, athleticism, and strength he had
-
Let's do the following: Change the English Coulee to "The Jonathan Toews Coulee" and University Park to "Zach Parise Park"...maybe add a Travis Zajac pond and a TJ Oshie river walk while we're at it...then we will ensure the cup should one of those players win it.

From what part of EP and what time of day?? Seriously...people...20 minutes is a close approximation. From the west side of EP in rush hour traffic, it is probably 45 minutes. From the east part during normal conditions 25 sounds about right.

He's already wealthy...so the incremental $70 million isn't really all its cracked up to be- If I've got $100 million in the bank, I'm more concerned about doing what I want to do than making another $70 million. Especially if I wasn't super competitive and cup driven- which has always been a knock on Kovi- top 0.01% offensive skill set...not really all that interested in hockey. Add being ex-pat vs at home and things start to make sense.

I throw up in my mouth every time they spell North Dakota. Same when Duluth does it. Result of too many suburban twin cities kids going to UND and UMD. Stealing Sweet Caroline from SCSU who stole it from the Boston Red Sox is just gross. At least we haven't stole Ole, Ole Ole from the land cows. I actually support REA and Sioux hockey standing out from the rest of the University- after all the venue and the team are really in a different stratosphere than every other team...

Anyone else notice that his "Bieber" jersey is up in Toewser's stall...
-
I think he's getting at the fact that pro hockey that isn't the NHL is not all its cracked up to be. Making $60-$100k while rarely sleeping in your own bed, taking a toll on your body, and always being a minute from being out of a job is not exactly the stuff dreams are made of...especially as you look at 30. Getting a degree that can afford you a professional job- science, business, engineering- much better, unless your Toewser of Parise

Agree that the USHL has really become a great league, and I think it is a great way to develop while still retaining college eligibility. CHL is still the best place to develop, but you are, as stated, really betting it all on hockey. Unless you are a 2+ point per game player in Midget AAA and a point per game player in Tier 1 International play, you'd be crazy to throw away your college eligibility IMO.

He's a top prospect and would be an awesome get. He went in the first round of the W Bantam draft...that's serious potential Ryan Gropp is an exceptional hockey player," said Sosa, the former Thunderbirds radio color commentator. "Everybody in the business knew that [Gropp's] family was very educated and really believed in university education. On top of that, the father played university hockey. Given those facts, it was probably reasonable to expect that Ryan would choose the NCAA route." The Thunderbirds ended up liking Gropp so much that they decided that drafting him with their first-round pick was worth the risk -- a risk that's taken with every single choice in the Bantam Draft. One can view a similar situation with current Chicago Blackhawks superstar and former University of North Dakota center Jonathan Toews, who was drafted by the Tri-City Americans first overall in 2003.
