  1. I do notice other universities logos when I travel, so I disagree somewhat with your assertion about not noticing other universities. I have been in the LA area a few times and did see a couple of UC-Irvine shirts and sweaters (even some Gaucho stuff). I am sure they are proud of their logo and I was not mentioning this to demean their logo at all. I just wanted to point out that having a logo does not mean $, it must mean something to those who want to wear it.
  2. You are correct in your statement, and I actually laughed when I saw it in the language about maintaining rights years ago as I was not sure how that could be done. As I stated previously, this could be done by some historical use in a game or two every couple of years by some athletic team and they would have to sell off those jersey's/sweaters for money to make this happen. As powerful and corrupt as the NCAA is, I do not think they are above the trademark laws, but nothing will surprise me anymore.
  3. Your "premise" of a North Dakota logo not being marketable is without any background. Even your suggestions of Anteaters (Cal-Irvine), and others actually makes a point in that how many of those do you see. I travel all over the country and outside the country and I have seen "Fighting Sioux" logos everywhere, but never one of the others you mentioned. A "North Dakota" logo could be marketable, and none of us know how marketable that vs. some other nickname or logo could compare. The university can not promote any of the "Fighting Sioux" logos other than those kept for historical purposes and so 0$ can be made from that unless they get permission from the NCAA for a historical use at some point maybe for a game. I doubt that will happen, but is a possibility that I will give you for them making money. I am correct that the most "popular" nickname suggestions were to be brought forward for a vote (of course you are correct that they have to meet NCAA requirements, and the committees requirements, but that is part of my argument that no nickname will fit under that because someone will make something offensive out of anything that is came up with), and I will hope popular means the suggestion that came up the most.
  4. I believe you are stating what most people feel is reasonable at this time and you will have folks call you names for feeling that way. I will add a couple of things to watch for in the near future. President Kelley will find some way to keep the "North Dakota" choice off of the ballot. I know that it is the highest balloted "name" and I will get a FOIA request immediately if it is not on the ballot. I am sure I am not the only one that will push that request and battle to not have a ballot until those numbers are made public. It was stated that the ones with the highest votes will be put forward and I do not believe that will be the case. The "North Dakota" choice meets all of the requirements that the original committee said were necessary. No nickname or logo other than "North Dakota" will not have someone from NDSU or Minnesota come up with something offensive regarding that nickname or logo. Impossible. That will immediately contradict what the original nickname committee stated to the Herald that it was looking for in a nickname. Again, I state that that is impossible as anything can be found to be offensive in some way to some one. Then again, I guess I could be wrong since if a "Crusader" cannot be deemed offensive to a particular religious group by the NCAA, the sky could be the limit on what we could get.
  5. Thanks for your dedication and being a fun player to watch. True to the Sioux tradition. Most people remember the great goals, but it is more than that as fans watching the Sioux. I remember watching Oshie against Michigan Tech near the end of the season take a puck to the chest killing a power play when we were ahead 3-1 with under 4 minutes to play. He did not get hurt, but I am sure Mark Mac was just doing what needed to be done just like Oshie did. You see the same from Stecher, Ausmus, etc. on this team which makes it special as the young kids are seeing what needs to be done. Best wishes for a great career ahead. Looking forward to watching you in the future. Hopefully see you in Boston at the Hockey Humanitarian ceremony.
  6. You could have just as easily posted the Minnesota"M" or Miami(OH)"M", which are easily distinguished from one another. On many of their uniforms that is all they have, or maybe a tiny logo that is hardly seen. They seem to do just fine without a nickname or logo on those uniforms, so why do we need one? I will answer myself. We do not. President Kelley stated right when he started that the teams do not play for the logo, but the school. Just like most progressives, I guess he is allowed to change his mind.
  7. I totally agree with you on this. Since I changed to viewing from my IPad to TV via Apple TV it took away the jerkiness of the feed. A very good, fast, Windows based computer running IE or Chrome on the same wireless setup provides a jerky feed. I have no problems with other feeds on my tower, and Neulion is no help on this and is the same no matter who I use. Definitely recommend the Apple TV for those who can get it. I would since FCS is now a shadow of what it was in the past and with Midco does not look to get better. Those outside the MN, SD, ND area need to utilize NCHC TV and the Apple TV platform works the best from everything that I have tried. FYI, I have one of the fastest wireless modems on the market (5GHz with location learning) and great internet speed, which does not help in the jerkiness.
  8. The last that was stated was "it will be likely a few games on FCS". It is becoming more and more clear that getting games on a national stage is not high priority for Midco, and they want to get a few more customers locally. There has been absolutely nothing from UND to state any efforts on their part in any efforts recently. Really sad for those outside the ND, MN, SD footprint that have to rely on the supposed ever improving webcasts. Like last weeks games that ended with about 10-15 seconds left in the broadcast. When Denver actually has more push than UND for TV coverage, that says a lot for those involved. But remember, it is on pay-per-view on NCHC-TV so everyone get in line.
  9. The only issue I had with the game last night was the brightness was a little greater on the mirroring of my IPad to AppleTV, but pretty good otherwise. I will try to work on that. I do feel for the NCHC in getting this going, promising a lot, and not making sure what capabilities the schools have. This is garbage though, and definitely not better than watching on FCS. I would take this for away games, with a few bugs.
  10. It is really sad that Midco would hold up this deal. As was mentioned, they actually did have it on FCS prior to the CBSSN deal. I do not buy the advertiser end, because that still goes out nationally which is not a bad thing. Those outside the ND,SD, MN area have gotten the short end for the last couple of years and the vision for national exposure should have been thought about. Obviously the CBSSN deal has done nothing until January this season, and the NCHC-TV is a good thing for those on the road, but it is still a long way from true HD in your home viewing. It has improved from last year, but it is not a long term solution until they get all the bugs worked out. The action live video is still jittery, and please do not buy the "it is on your end" answer. The improvements have been in the addition of Apple products to be able to run the games, and the PIP option for all the games. The PIP is good for those who had a subscription for UNDInsider this year, but it will be interesting to see how many subscribers will bail next year if the quality does not improve and only do the school subscription. I realize the cost is not too much more, but it still will be interesting.
  11. Way to take the bait. My comment was generic about the webcasts, and I do realize that this was likely on UND's end and threw out the Neulion as past issues. I just wanted to have some fun, and obviously hurt someone's feelings. Didn't mean to touch a nerve.
  12. For those who want to hear the game, go on IHeart Radio and listen to Tim on 96.1. Most people thinks it is a better option anyway.
  13. Cue the apologists for the wonderful web casts. Neulion is wonderful - do not blame them, etc. At least I know where to get my carhardts!
  14. Is anyone else only getting the audio during commercials. Great start to the web casts again this year. I am sure it is on my end though.
  15. Just remember, it is all on your end. My subscription, which was supposed to be "All-access", based on my UND Insider premium subscription is "UND Only" on the NCHC TV site. I should have checked on that earlier, but that is what I get for having a little trust. I do not expect a great deal from Neulion, as far as speed to correct any issues based on past experience. You can say what you want about other systems that they supposedly run (NHL, etc.), but it all comes down to how badly they want to do this and support it. Sad to hear about more problems, but as I said I do not even have access to other games yet to provide input.
  16. Just as an FYI folks, for those of you who have signed up for NCHCTV as a UNDInsider via that e-mail, you better check your subscriber status. We are supposed to be an "All Access" package, but I tried to check out the UMD/Wisconsin women's game last night and it said that I did not have access. I than checked my subscription, and it said it was just for UND. I tried to e-mail them through the contact us form twice, and received one computer generated response that they received my e-mail. No actual response yet, but if it is going through Neulion, that is not surprising based on past experiences.
  17. I think they are the Bysunz (plural), not Byzin.
  18. I do not think you read my post very well. The Theodore Roosevelt character would be a MASCOT, not a logo, or I did not say to use "Roughriders", as a nickname. By getting a mascot, we would totally satisfy the NCAA requirement and we can just be North Dakota.
  19. I totally agree with keeping it just "North Dakota" without any new nickname or logo. However, I do have a way of making this a compromise. In the theme of keeping it just "North Dakota", we could adopt a mascot like a Theodore Roosevelt character to play on the theme of North Dakota as the "Roughrider State", but adopt no nickname or logo. That would take care of the NCAA nonsense. Hey, the Washington National's have a president race using caricatures during inning breaks, so how can that be bad. Keeping with the inclusive nature of the progressive movement going on, if folks wanted to wear a roughrider outfit, meadowlark, or wild prairie rose's on an outfit to the game to celebrate us as just "North Dakota", that would be their choice and who are we to decide what folks want to wear. If folks want to wear jersey's with any Sioux logo, or yell "Sioux" at the end of our national anthem, who can argue that they are just being inclusive. The Sioux are indeed a great and proud part of North Dakota, and who in all of their progressive little mind would deny somebody as being excluded like the great American Indian or Native American heritage of the great state of North Dakota. I think this is a great way to make sure everyone is satisfied and we can move on.
  20. I do not care to remember it much, but it could help the guys this year. The 2004 Parise year when Denver did not make it to the FInal FIve, but got an at large bid to the West regional. We beat up on Holy Cross, but lost to Denver 1-0 on a late goal (reminiscent of last night). By the way, Denver went on to win it all that year. I hope that is good karma. We had an awesome team that year, but like folks have said on here, anyone can win this time of year if a goalie gets hot or you do not show up for 60 minutes.
  21. I see there is no internet video for either game this weekend. I would like to be wrong on this, but I cannot find any info on that happening. I also have a question regarding the magical appearance of a NCHC matchup on a Fox Sports station. We were told that that could not happen due to the NCHC "agreement" with CBS Sports Network. My only guess is that this is considered a "local" or "Regional" Fox Sports station similar to Root Sports, so it is allowed. I am not sure how that can be the case because you can get these Fox Sports stations on satellite such as Direct TV, so to me that makes it nationally available.
  22. Bottom line is if we do not get a sweep or a win/tie out of this all of the pairwise prognostications can go out the window. I see splits in the future with teams we would need to sweep to improve the pairwise, so our chance to go to the tourney would have to rely on a friendly Target Center.
  23. It varied greatly from venue to venue due to the games that I have watched are US national teams and they have been from various countries and not from one particular team or arena. The picture was usually a pretty good standard quality, but the announcers made the games hilarious to watch at times. I am sure the announcers for these games will be very knowledgeable about hockey, but not so much the teams. I also have not heard the rule changes in place due to these games. Not sure whether they will be US college rules or Canadian college rules, so that will also make it interesting for the announcers. One last thing that I noticed from these games is that they usually have one camera doing the coverage, sometimes two, so you will have to give them allowance for that as well. For those that used to watch the Alaska-Anchorage games it is much better than that.
  24. I have watched numerous games on Fast Hockey (mostly the US National squad games) and the quality has been good. I doubt these games will be in high definition, but the feed does not chatter like the NeuLion UND games, so in that way it will likely be better. But NeuLion continues to say it is on my end and not their problem. Obviously the games that I watched on FastHockey did not have the likely number of folks that these two games will get, so we will see how that is handled. I never had any buffering watching it using IE as a platform and did not have to go to Google Chrome like for the NeuLion feed. Bottom line is that the FastHockey feed was much better than most feeds of college games, but remember there is no commercials, so be prepared for lengths of silence and the camera work is sometimes a little sketchy.
  25. Now the apologists for the university are going to have something else to blame the lack of folks watching the webcasts. They will say that the numbers are down because the team sucks, not because the internet feed is bad, because it is on your end. I really would love to see the numbers of folks logging in to webcasts, vs. FCS vs. FTA. The original numbers Jayson gave were pathetic after the exhibition, but I have not seen anything since.
