  1. What was the atmosphere like? How did the Betty handle the aforementioned issues, with the biggest crowd on hand so far?

3,064 in attendance against the #4 team in the country?! ;) C'mon Sioux basketball fans, we should be able to do better than this! This could be the best women's team that Roebuck has assembled, and there have been some damn good teams to play for him! My excuse for not going is living 100 miles away, it's a school night, and the weather is crap! What is your excuse, Grand Forks!? ;)

I find it hard to rip the fans since I know a lot of them were turned away at the ticket window saying all the tickets were sold.

  2. Could it be that many season ticket holders did not attend due to weather (not a good excuse) or other reasons? The Athletic Department can not sell their seats.

This must be the explanation. I had a couple of friends get turned away also, saying there were no tickets available.

  3. It's a crying shame this game isn't on TV tonite. The two best teams in the NCC, a very crappy night weather wise.....be nice to see it on the tube. Good to hear there's a great crowd there despite the weather though! GO SIOUX!!

This is one of those games that they should have decided to televise before the season even started.

  4. I can't disagree regarding the track records of recent Mon-Dak players, at least from schools other than NDSCS. Hunter Berg is the last really good one I can think of from Williston, Bismarck or Lake Region.

I was just thinking also that Hunter Berg is the only real player to come out of there in a long time.

  5. I went to Good Night and Good Luck in Fargo at the Fargo Theatre. It is still playing there. I make the trip down to Fargo to see movies in their theaters on a regular basis.

I wish the Empire would get a movie like this every once in a while.

  6. It also appears the Hollywood Theater project is dead in the water. I e-mailed the North Central Region Manager for the Carmike Theaters and asked him if they cancelled their renovation project for the Carmike 10 just because all of their perceived competition didn't pan out. He replied back to me that the project was "simply" put on hold and he thought it may be revisited down the road. He mentioned that the box office revenues were down 10% nationwide. I am not holding my breath on this project, either. :p

When it looked like Grand Forks was going to get a couple of new theaters, Carmike 10 announced plans to renovate their existing theater. Now, because of lack of competition, they say that it is put on "hold"? That is funny stuff.

  7. Hasn't Grand Forks tried to support more authentic mexican restaurants but failed. I thought that where Grizzley's stands now has been at least two mexican restaurants. I'm almost surprised that the Bronze Boot has lasted this long, remember how popular Smoky's was in West Fargo?

The mexican restaurants that where Grizzly's is now were far from authentic Mexican food.

I'm not suprised about Bronze Boot, they serve a great meal, have a lot of great choices on their menu, they are a local mom and pop joint, and they are super busy every weekend.

  8. How about an Olive Garden or Macaroni Grill and a nice higher end steakhouse than Ponderosa, like Outback, Timberlodge, Stuart Anderson etc.

If you think that the Ponderosa is the high end steakhouse in Grand Forks, you need to drive around the town a bit more.

  9. If you have a conference, you have about half (or more) of your schedule defined each year and you know where you'll be travelling to --> known costs years/seasons in advance.

If you have a notion of what a big chunk of your travel budget will be (conference) that's far better than being an independent and having no idea of who or where you'll be playing year to year (unknown travel is unknown costs which is nearly impossible to try to budget for).

If you can start to define travel (conference) you start to define costs which means you can form a budget to work to.

    Got it, thanks Sicatoka.

  10. * Conference makes travel budget a better known which makes costs better known which solves a big chunk of costs.

"Um, can you repeat the part of the stuff where you said all about the ... things?"

  11. The economic impact of bringing in so many out-of-towners twice a weekend could be considerable -- G.F. is fortunate to have such a draw.

There is no doubt about that. The economic impact from the out of town fans on the community has to be a big number.

  12. Sorry, but I've never understood how "compromise" applies to this situation.

Whether or not students participate in mass, profane cheering isn't a matter for compromise. They shouldn't do it.

    Period.

Whether or not students stand the entire game and block the view of people who paid to see the game isn't a matter for compromise. They shouldn't do it.

    Period.

Why do students believe that they are entitled to something when all that's being asked is that they engage in the minimal standards of acceptable public behavior? Why should anyone expect to get something in return for that?

The "general public" isn't doing the same thing as the students. That's the difference. It has nothing do with students being unfairly persecuted.

I agree. I would like to add that although I pay X amount of dollars for my seats and X amount of dollars to join the Fighting Sioux Club, and I pay X amount of taxes to the state which helps fund Higher Ed in this state, that does not entitle me to much more than my seats at the Ralph. Also, paying tuition and money for their seats, the students aren't entitled to anything but a seat at the game. There are people on both sides of this debate who think the more they pay, the more they think they run the REA.

  13. 1. I think the image of drunk students at the games is overblown. There are very few drunk students at the games that I see. Probably about the same % as the general public.

Great point. I keep hearing people talk about the "drunken students", but there are plenty of season ticket holders who sit around me that get drunk and obnoxious at every game. I'm not denying the fact that some students might get drunk at the games, but there are plenty of non-students who are drunk at every game also.
