Is Kurt Zellers UND's worst alumni?!?!
siouxfan512 replied to siouxfan512's topic in Non-collegiate sports
Ok then it can be re-phrased and states that Wilf was responsible for finding the financing for 45%. Worded differently, same results, and same amount needs to be financed by the state -

I'm a state taxpayer, and I think it would be a refreshing change to see my money go to something like this. It was the same arguments for the Twins stadium, and that has done a tremendous job of drawing people in and making money. Nobody is worse of because of it. I think it is safe to say that this vote will seriously impact the upcoming election and who makes it through. -

Voice of the public: Gov Dayton says calls to his office overhwleming in favor of Vikings stadium: 966 support, 141 oppose. Interesting to see if public opinion will be enough to push the vote on Monday, even without Mr Zeller's support. -

If there wasn't a benefit to posessing an NFL team, nobody would want to buy them. To say they are not a assett to the state is a pretty asinine statement, considering the number of tax dollars they generate, not to mention all of the out of state dollars they bring in. It is pretty embarassing that this could not get taken care of quicker and easier. Instead, this has basicall turned into a glorified pissing match between Dayton and the GOP. -

As much as I despise Mark Dayton he said it best, it doesn't really matter where the Wilf's get their financing from whether is be the bank, their personal acct, private investors, or the NFL. The bottom line is that whatever the number is, it takes away from the state's portion of the financing. -

Fair enough . . . I actually just moved back to Minneapolis from ND, and as a fan and now tax paying citizen of the state it is disappointing. Aside from losing the team that many love, it really sucks to pay all those tax dollars and not see them go to something you want. For example, it really irritates me to see so much of our tax dollars go to programs like welfare, which seams to be a broken system that allows many people to become dependent upon it; then when a portion of those dollars could go to something i, and many, would actually enjoy, for a change, the people in power cannot work together to find a solution that would appease most if not everyone. Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to bash on welfare. It is a program that is needed by many, but it certainly abused and is a bottomless pit for our tax dollars. Seems to me that Zellers is overly stubborn and Dayton is power happy (Veto-what!) -

Not a stadium proponent, I assume? That is certainly a fair opinion, though if he didn't support the issue he should have come out and said so when Roger Goodell was lobbying to him. Instead he lied to all parties involved and said they would get it done. I can understand being upset about Dayton constantly vetoing your top political issues, but this needs to be about the interest of the state and the people of MN. Not the political power struggle between them. I think it is safe to say that regardless of the outcome of this issue, this was handled extremely poorly and without class by both sides. I only single out Zellers because of his UND affiliation. -

If you support the stadium and live in Minnesota, call your representative! -
Is Kurt Zellers currently one of the most disliked and despised UND alumni for setting up the Vikings to leave Minnesota?!?! I am typically a strong republican and think there is more than enough blame to go around on this stadium issue. But it is clear that Dayton and Zellers deserve to carry most of the blame. Zellers for his lack of support and decisiveness in the process, and Dayton for his incompetent incapability to compromise with the GOP. Anyone else tired of this power struggle? That being said, is Zellers currently UND's most disliked alumni. Discuss . . .

Ha, the NCAA is such a joke. They really do have too much power for their own good. These people are just pathetic.
-
Lets change our name to the University of North Dakota Spirit Lake Fighting Sioux, I would be interested to know how that would be received by the NCAA, seeing as it would be in compliance with there rule of obtaining approval. Obviously, this would still have political issues; just a fun argument to make . . .

I though they both UND and WMU played really well today, but they both play the exact same style hockey creating a very neutral game. Tomorrow the playing style will not be as similar with Minnesota being a faster and more high powered offense and UND playin a solid D game. UND will need to take advantage of their scoring opportunities and play solid special teams. No dumb penalties either. UND needs to control the tempo of the game and keep a slower pace (shots, rebounds and garbage goals if we want to win), if the goofs start rolling it could get ugly. Go Sioux!
-
Agreed, we need to play solid D without penalties. Special teams will win this game.
-
Agreed, I don't think there is a true favorite in this matchup. It just depends which gopher and which sioux team shows up.

I agree Bjugstad doesn't look like himself lately. As for UND and WMU, i though they both played really well, but they both play the exact same style hockey creating a very neutral game. PASSED!!!! On to the Senate!!! GO SIOUX!!!! -
there is the penalty everyone said was coming
-
I always like it when another Sioux fan will admit when there was no penalty and just a good clean hit. Kinda drove me crazy in the first when the fans were calling for a penalty on a great play by Donovan. I'm a homer but not everything in a penalty going the Sioux's way. . . opposing team make good plays too. . . .GO SIOUX!!

Just throwing this out there . . . I can't believe there are even people out there that think we should be firing Hak. Sure he hasn't won a title yet, but look at what he has done. He has a great record, been to multiple frozen fours, won the WCHA title, won the WCHA final five. Sure they are having a rough go this season but lets remember they still have a lot of time to do a lot of things, not to mention they are playing without some big talent. A lot of teams would love to be in our position right now (ranked #6) - not to bad. Now, i liked Blais too and it would be cool to see him coach the Sioux again, but Hak is certainly deserving of his position. With how many one goal losses this team has right now, they are a few mistakes away from be a very dangerous team. That is what Hak has built a legacy on is correcting first half mistakes, lets give him a little time, and if it doesn't work out, well, God forbid a coach has one bad year (with a lot of young player I'll remind you). Gophers are doing it, they are correcting a ton of first half mistakes. I was at the recent Sat game and while they did have a few fluke goals, they played a hell of a series. Much better than the Goofer team from a month ago. Not to mention Kangas was on a roll. Look for these guys to make a statement as the season winds down. I hate saying that. This will be a big weekend for the Sioux, beating Cornell would put the team on the right track for the next few weeks against tough opponents. If this team can be successful over the next 2-3 weeks, i think a lot of fans will be singing a much different tune. GO SIOUX!!

Sally's Saloon is pretty good and only a few blocks from the arena

Regardless of how good or bad the Goofers have played to this point you can bet they will be working hard for next weekends series. Team records aside these two teams tend to have a pretty tight match up. I do give the Sioux the advantage but MN has some dangerous players. I think Lucia has done a pretty bad job this year of utilizing the tools he has. I'll be there Sat, can't wait for some good hockey. Go Sioux, Get 4.
