What's so wrong about buckysieve calling you God?
-
I'm basically judging solely by lack of scenery. The road condition of both are pretty good.

If he can get the players, then I'm all for it. Parity is always good (provided it isn't produced by shoddy officiating and poor administrative oversight). Minnesota is the State of Hockey and will be for a long time to come, but the only way that ND can even be a respectable hockey state is if East AND West have good hockey teams that compete on a yearly basis. Minnesota doesn't run with only Warroad, Roseau, and Holy Angels (Not to mention Shattuck, which is a special case). ND can't be respectable with only Grand Forks, Grafton, and Fargo South.
-
Hmmm.. Ever drive there from Grand Forks? That's one God-awful stretch of highway. I keep on debating whether or not that stretch of highway or I29 between GF and Fargo is the worst stretch of asphalt in the US. Valley City.... I dunno... When I was there the first thing that came to mind is "Trailer park city" Probably isn't, to be honest, but it was definitely the first impression I got. In any case, why give props to a city that is similar to Minot when you can spend your time in a real city... like Seattle.

It will be interesting to see what happens. Especially now that the Blues got Oshie. St. Louis was definitely interested in Duncan. However, I'm wondering how much of that had to do with getting Oshie? Also, signing with St. Louis didn't really help Sejna's career. All I can say is this: After next season, Ryan, if someone waves a contract in front of you, TAKE IT AND RUN! See where it goes and have fun, dude. Really, that's all he can do.

Please ban posters who add nothing but flames and put downs to threads. Ahem... not mentioning any names.

Flame me at will, but I'll take Lucia 8 days a week and 4 times on Sunday before I'd take McHale in the same capacity (talking recruiting/GMing). Lucia can coach, even if he has a bad year every now and then. McHale... has he done one good thing at all as GM of the T-pu$$ies? Oh wait... he has. He became Taylor's best friend (aka, the Matt Millen school of General Managing). You don't have to do well if the owner thinks you are the best thing since the invention of toilet paper.
-
Have you been to Spokane? Canada can have it. It's worse than Minot. In fact, it's Valley City-esque.

Truthfully, I disagree in this context. I really think we don't know how this will affect the team on or off the ice. We're not privy to off ice issues really and I'm not sure how much what we are privy to is affected by an assistant head coach (as opposed to the associate head coach or head coach) stepping down. It may be obvious on ice, but we'll have to wait until next season to know for sure. I know for a fact that UND's game changed drastically after losing Brad Berry. It took Dane Jackson a while to become effective.

I really think Hakstol (?) was dead on when he was asked about Kaip before Kaip suited up for the Sioux. He was asked to compare Kaip to a current or former Sioux and he said that Kaip compares favorably to Rory MacMahon. He was dead on. Rory might have had a bigger offensive upside, but Rylan had more grit and more leadership (which is saying something because Rory was no slouch either). I know we have Hextall coming in, but I definitely think we'll be missing Kaip as much as we miss Prpich. Hextall has big skates to fill.

Here's the debate in a nutshell: CHL fans feel their system is superior to DI and can list a bunch of "reasons" why. NCAA fans feel their system is superior to or equal to the CHL and can list a bunch of "reasons" why. Neither side likes each other and neither side acts truly civil. Truly, though, they make the most arrogant Gopher fans look like the most humblest of people in the world. Seriously... There are advantages to the CHL, such as the fact they don't have to attend college courses to play hockey, they play more games, they can sign with the NHL and not lose CHL eligibility provided their age is within the age range the CHL allows, and they get some sort of compensation package. Not an argument worth having. Just one destined for trolling and flaming.

Chief- I really think that the professor is making this case, not the JSO. Listen, he's been the JSO for years. I was the JSO President when he became our advisor! He NEVER showed up to meetings or contacted us or responded to our communiques in any way. Now, suddenly this happens and he's a door thumping advocate for the Jews? Sorry, but this prof stinks of political motivation.

I can't automatically side with the victim on everything. Sometimes the victim does something to provoke (knowingly or unknowingly) the response. Sometimes it is sheer stupidity dressed up as a bigger piece of miscreance. I have no doubt that this guy was bullied and is a victim as such. However, is it purely because of anti-semitism? Hard to say. Look at it this way: The first swastika, I guess, was found as related to this guy in February. Nothing was allegedly done until April. No Press, no nothing. Guess what? The Press picks up the story and BINGO! Another Swastika appears on the Law School windows. Guess what! I predict another will appear within the next 30 days somewhere else on campus. And thereafter until the press stops reacting to it. These are acts of VANDALISM that gets a rise out of people. It is NOT anti-semitism because if it was, it wouldn't have taken the press to make a big deal out of the first one for a second one to appear! Interestingly enough, I'm surprised one hasn't shown up on the REA somewhere. I suppose it will happen eventually. The only issue I see with this incident is the sluggish response by UND. That's it. Nothing more.

He's about the same size as Lee.... and he was drafted by Ottawa.... He went to Shattuck... So Yes!!! The only things going against him is that: 1. He wasn't a first round draft pick 2. He didn't come straight from high school
-
I really think it depends upon which QMJHL team drafts him. If it is Moncton, then yeah, Clarke's gone. I don't know why Moncton is so successful, but they are. I don't even know where Moncton, Quebec is.
-
I heard he's a lot like Smaby. Not quite as good a shot as LaPoint is capable, but certainly a stay at home type with some offensive upside.

Ben Blood Hockeysfuture blurb. It just recaps Blood's season with the only interesting part being:

Well... every time I see your name, brian, I get all confused, frustrated, and for some reason angry. Yeah, I meant Brian. It doesn't help that our blogger is named Brad Elliott Schlossman.

No problem. Sioux-cia: I understand he went through a lot. However, let's not forget a few things: First ____ is a Jew isn't derogatory. I doubt someone going up to your wall and writing "Sioux-cia is a Lutheran" would be offensive, no? Let's also not forget that, though the intent was there, the swastika is actually not a Nazi symbol. Historically, it was a religious symbol that the Nazi's distorted into the symbolism it has today. Go to Southeast Asia sometime, you'll find swastikas everywhere and I guarantee they're not Nazis or Anti-Semitic. The naked truth is this: It is only offensive if you choose for it to be offensive. To me, I've received my share of ignorant statements by Gentiles. I've been accused of killing Jesus at the ripe age of 12. I got the Neo Nazi newsletter that stated that reports of the Holocaust was grossly exaggerated and most probably false. Being teased is never fun, but it happens. This is because a person or group of people decided that they want to do it. It has nothing to do with the University. The University doesn't support such activities but it can't police it as closely as these people seem to want it to be. We are not Big Brother ala Orwell. I sympathize with him for his bad experience, but it was just that: a bad experience. If he needs to talk it out, so be it, but it should be with a confidant such as a relative, significant other, a close friend, or a professional such as a counselor. It should not be with the press. Every time a swastika shows up on campus, the news is there to report it. That's just more attention for the miscreant. It's a game. Do the act, don't get caught doing it, watch everyone scream in horror. FUN! Ignore it, and it goes away. Go ape:bleep: and it becomes a game.

What about Henrik Zetterberg (7th round -1999): Scott Kelman (#15 overall)? Barrett Heisten (#20)? Luca Cereda (#24)? This isn't counting two or three goaltenders who were drafted in the first round that busted out. But I suppose Pavel Brendl (#4) had a good career, yes? (Actually the Sedin brothers #2 and #3 and Tim Connolly #5 are the only 3 of the top 5 that have done really anything). Patrik Stefan isn't bad... Heck, Nicklas Lidstrom was a 3rd round pick his draft year!

My point is that this no named Advisor Wettstein(? I still don't know his name.) is making an issue of it. Maybe this finally got him involved with the JSO. Who knows what the JSO members feel about it. They were probably ticked off that it happened and very sympathetic to the student, but I'm also not sure they wanted to make a big deal of it. There's a LOT of Jewish history that makes a BIG DEAL about remaining anonymous. Every time, historically, that Jewish people made a "big ruckus" it ended bad. Everyone knows about the Holocaust or the Pogroms, but here is a lesser known example: If you go to Europe, you can tour your choice of ancient and beautiful Catholic churches and cathedrals. Search as you may, you will not find a similarly aged Synagogue. Why? Because Jews historically did not show their wealth by building expensive churches that are stone and ornate on the outside. In fact, they were made of wood. They almost had a Quonset style to them. The elaborateness comes on the inside walls where many had painted murals from wall to wall, ceiling to floor (not on the floor itself though) of every part of the Torah. So, once could start at the doorway, walk around the entire perimeter of the Synagogue and have, by the time they reached the door again, walked through the entire Torah. Why did none of them survive? They were all burned to the ground. EVERY ONE OF THEM. So, when you drive around towns that have a Jewish community in them, that doesn't have a separate suburb known as the Jewish part of town (for example, Minneapolis has St. Louis Park, which houses the largest of MSP's Jewish community), 90% of the synagogues (especially those built before 1979) will be built deep in residential neighborhoods. They are not found on major drags or roadways. "To remain hidden is to remain safe" seems to be the historic motto of Jewish society.

That wikipedia definition is flawed. Tell me how an 8th round draft pick or even a 6th round draft pick is a "can't miss" prospect. It's common knowledge that the true can't miss prospects are those that are drafted in the first two rounds. Good prospects fall in rounds 3-5. Projects and long shots fall in 6-the end of the draft. **Well, usually** Joe Finley was drafted in the first round and he's a project. Blake Wheeler was drafted top 5 and he's more like a late first rounder... so I guess there are exceptions. Many goaltenders simply aren't drafted due to the amount of time they require to truly develop. Backstrom of the Wild is one example. I don't think Belfour was drafted either. It's crazy. David LeNeveu was a HUGE prospect, but hasn't been able to crack the NHL roster in any length (21 games over 5 pro seasons) as of yet, however Tim Thomas plays all the time. Thomas was a 9th round pick and LeNeveu a 2nd rounder. The fact is, can't miss is subjective and so is their draft level. Tim Thomas was a 9th round draft pick, Ed Belfour was undrafted and both played/play extensively in the NHL. David LeNeveu can't stick in the NHL. Mathieu Chouinard (who was a first round #15 overall pick in the 1998 draft and reentered as a second round #45 pick in 2000) has only played 1 game in the NHL and is now out of hockey. You never know. Eidsness may be the next Belfour. He may be the next Kvalavog. We don't know. But anyways...

Does it? I seem to recall that the Blues made a big push to sign him after his Hobey year. Sure, it may have been half talent related and other half person reasons (The Blues thought that, if they signed Duncan, they'd get Oshie to sign earlier). However, Duncan turned down said money. Rookie max or not, he was undrafted so anything would be higher than he'd get just signing an AHL/ECHL or other pro league contract. Money may talk to many, and I'm sure Duncan thought hard about taking the money, but he came back. And he came back again. I'm sure NHL teams will wait. He may not get the same money that Toews or Oshie got (I'm sure he won't). However, I think NHL teams will be interested. Gretzky wasn't the fastest. He was just really smart on the ice and found ways to be where defenders weren't and had a stick that was unmatchable. You never know. I have my own doubts on Duncan and the NHL, but I think Duncan will get some looks even after his senior season.

3rd/4th liners, eh? No wonder why all of UW's pros go on to be pretty solid defensively. They certainly don't work much on offense while at UW. UW is the only team that is more boring to watch than the Wild and Devils (even though I'm a fan of the Devils...it's still true).
