The Wild are in desperate need of talent at Forward in general. After Gaborik and Koivu (and MAYBE Bouchard), there is a steep drop off in talent. I'm not sure whom the Wild will go after. All I CAN say is that the chances of the Red Wings drafting a collegian in the first two rounds are next to nil. I wonder who is the top rated Swede. If he is still available when the Wings choose, I'd bet on him. Love the Red Wings, but they typically look overseas first, MJ second, college next.

Not at all bad. However, I wonder about how strong the SJHL really is. Sure, we've all heard about the Notre Dame Hounds (lots of Sioux players) but after that....

Him and McGourty.. Neither's writing skills are too impressive. Nice to have a write up on a Sioux recruit, but both delved deeply into crap (aka filler). McGourty made a big deal about Irish or Scottish crap. This guy just wastes space and has a few quotes from Cory to make it hockey-related. Sorry, I'm cynnical.

It's unbecoming to agree with a Sioux fan. Sure, some fans (like brianvf and dagies) make it easy, but around here Gopher fans have a rep to uphold. You need to be more snobbish, arrogant, elitist, and derogatory. If you don't, you'll end up like sagard (widely considered a closet Sioux fan, and therefore, not a "true" Gopher fan).

Shows what a coach can do. I don't think last year's Notre Dame team was all that special. They just gelled at the right time and played well over their talent level in the NCAAs. Jackson should improve that team drastically.

Yeah, that's where our mailbox was, but we used to sit just outside that office in the couches that used to be there. Then we'd usually go off campus to a restaurant and eat. When the Maidenbergs retired and moved (I think they moved to Arizona or something like that), Weinstein (I don't care much to look up his name) became our advisor and our group lost all direction. It deteriorated into a snobby social club and I quit shortly thereafter. In any case, who knows what the state of the organization is now.

Then many times I am the most informed around.

I agree with this. How will UMN's offense and special teams fare this year? Will the defense continue to improve? Kangas won't slump, but if he is relied upon as much as he was last season, I can't see Minnesota going too deep in the playoffs. You can't be all goaltender and nothing else.

The letter isn't all accurate. There are oil drilling operations in Western North Dakota and I think some other midwest states as well. Also, there is a new refinery being built in Iowa? Or somewhere thereabouts... if it hasn't washed away. Otherwise, the letter is right on. Also, Sen. Specter is a glory hound. He beats cancer (good for him, seriously!) and uses that publicity to rail the NFL and the oil companies.

As of 2004, the "Jewish Center" was the Student Union common area. In other words, no building exists. The Jewish Synagogue is so far off campus and so well hidden that I'm not sure how many of us knew where it was. Before Weinstein, we had the Maidenbergs being our advisor (Maidenbergs were well known at the time as Mrs. Maidenberg was a prominant professor in the Nursing department and Mr. Maidenberg was the Publisher or Editor or some other bigwig with the GF Herald at the time). She used to arrange rides for us. Admittedly, a lot can change in 4 years time, but we're nowhere near as privileged a student minority as the Native Americans. We won't have a nice Jewish Center built for us. As for your final statement, 85% of graffiti is for "look at me look at me" purposes, 10% is for simply artistic expression, 4% for defacement of the property it is painted on, and 1% for political expression. That's MY opinion.

True. But the roster brings up a question: On the Halifax roster, Malone is listed at 6'3 190. On the Sioux roster, he's listed at 6'1 197. Which one is accurate? How do you tell?
-
I don't know if "they" do, but MJ fans certainly do. I'll tell you all what, but MJ fans make Gopher and Wolverine fans look like Saints as far as arrogance and elitism is concerned. And if you doubt what I'm saying, just ask the MJ fans. They're not afraid at all to agree with it, though they may not state my words exactly.

Probably everyone said this one but... Queen - Killer Queen http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MMz-wi50ACU REO Speedwagon from 1971- 157 Riverside Avenue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QXHhgM_zW8

I thought the band had to start with the letter of the alphabet. My fault.
-
Good points, but then why did the WHL team blow a first round pick on him then?
-
Maybe not. I thought Measure #1 would allow these smoking ban-opponents to put the issue back on the ballot every single election. I guess I'm wrong?

Leonard Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama (sure this is a repeat but I want to get to M, dang it!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwWUOmk7wO0 Mahavishnu Orchestra (I don't know the song, but they're darn good in a really off beat, jazz fusion, obscure sort of way): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZNJEpaZXbs

Ok, since the Home Rule Charter passed, then why are we all in a tiffy over this? The Smoking ban passed...for now. But it will now appear on EVERY ballot from here until they repeal this Home Rule Charter... Or am I completely off? I could live with a partial or full smoking ban either way. I was really hoping the Home Rule Charter wouldn't pass.

Is Ford Motor boycotting the REA over Sioux name?
redwing77 replied to star2city's topic in UND Nickname
Ford was also Anti-Semitic, so obviously the reason why they didn't sponsor the Curling Tourney is because UND has a Jewish Student Organization. But... wouldn't that work in REA's favor as Ralph was a Nazi lover too? At least, according to everyone not associated with UND or the FBI anyways. -
The Enterprise, called the "Big E" during at least World War II, was the flagship of the entire US Navy during that time. It may still be considered as such for all I know. Sad about the Kitty Hawk. A grand ship that was. And, yeah, I was joking Hammersmith. Nevertheless, I'm not sure I see the symbolism behind having a sub named after North Dakota... unless of course, it is more of the U.S. government ragging on the Sioux. Bear with me on this, I'm donning the victim mentality mindset for a moment: Now, everyone knows that the word Sioux was a derogatory word of those not of the Sioux tribe to signify deceit, slyness, and even acts that of a "snake in the grass." Isn't a sub's mission very similar? They slink around the world's oceans, sneaking up on "enemy" ships and coastal targets and striking silently then sneaking away? Hence, of course, a sub named the USS North Dakota would be hostile and abusive. Hmmm.... There's something to that victim mentality. All you readers of Germanic ancestry owe me money, clothing, jobs, and pity! Now... PAY UP!

I agree with Roben for the most part. The "home of the Sioux" chant will linger for sure. The Sioux Yeah Yeah thing may go away in time. I know for a fact that many great chants that were seemingly cemented into UND hockey tradition have gone the way of the DoDo bird. True, most of them are lewd and obnoxious, but how many posters who have only known the new REA know the: Black hole chant? The Mickey Mouse chant? All the variations of the "Give me an..." chants? The Tech song? "Eff the Gophers/Badgers" song? Can anyone remember the last time the REA played the song "Mona Mona"? Those mostly died with the opening of the new REA. With the nickname, I'm sure the Sioux chants will eventually go into the "Do you remember the..." section

Hmmm.. I might take a different approach and go completely dark horse: 1. CC 2. UMN 3. DU 4. UND 5. SCSU 6. UW (UW holds the tiebreaker) 6. tUMD 8. MSUM 9. MTU 10. UAA

Good points. 7th overall? Isn't that pretty highly drafted to make a recruiting pass on him? Every league has its diamonds in the rough, so I suppose DeHaan could be just that.

update as per another thread here: Fienhage is coming in next season. There you are, the next target after Finley.
