  1. Does anyone know if UND, UMKC, and St. Thomas received bids to play in the CBI or CIT post season tournaments and turned them down.

It would seem they have better credentials than several of the teams that are playing in these events.

I heard on this site that 5 teams in the tourney an exception can be made.  However, if you look at the non-UND hockey thread, I did find a bracket that includes 5 NCHC teams (based on current pairwise), and still avoids first round matchups.

They still avoid if possible. In 2008 the WCHA had 6 teams in the tournament. UND was a 1 seed and we had 3 2 seeds and 2 3 seeds.

Denver played Wisconsin in first round and then Kozek ended their season to send us to Denver.

  3. The committee is definitely hoping that the dice are thrown in the shaker and re-rolled next weekend with some movement.

    Current issues.

    2 2 seeds from B10 and 2 3 seeds from B10.

UMass is a 4 seed and host which means BU or BC would currently have to head west which means UND or DU would have to head east. DU and CC would be slated to meet but you have conference issue there and UND also has a conference issue playing CC in the first round.....The sound you hear is Boston University fans and administration losing their minds with the prospect of going to Missouri to play Colorado College.

Which regional do you put these games in? Do you have Sparty(#5) play Omaha(#12) or Minnesota (#8) play in Sioux Falls?

And though he is no Oshie, he is surprisingly strong on his feet with the puck--unless it's a tripping situation, and he knows how to sell that.    Quite unlike Schmaltz, who can be taken off the puck fairly easily.   And I like Schmaltz for what he does.

Of course if you take the puck from Nick he is probably going to take it right back a few seconds later.

Yeah I don't think he is a division 1 player. Watching him last year in the class A tournament i wasn't impressed.  Erickson either but his height has some upside

I disagree on Doppler. He had a rough state tournament last year but i watched him play several times last year and think he has potential to carve out a top 8 role. He is 6-4 but I am guessing he has closer to 6-6 or even 6-8 wingspan and he can defend. He also has good vision and has a little slash and shake in his offensive game.

NCAA mens basketball currently lists 351 teams.  Their tourney allows 68 teams which is just over 19%.  Men's hockey allows 16 of it's 64 members into the tournament which is 25%.  Unless a bunch more teams join, I don't see a need to expand the tournament.

I guess i should have scrolled before responding.

Ok, but might I ask why you think leaving it at 16 teams is good for now? Almost all other NCAA sports tournaments have been modified in the last 10 years with the exception of Hockey.

There are 351 teams in NCAA Basketball...68 make the tournament. 32 get autobids and 36 make it at large. Right now, hockey is at 6 and 10.

I think if you had 8 conferences with auto bids then that might be the time to add 4 teams to the field as hopefully the number of teams has increased as well.

Sioux Falls regional as of tonight would be North Dakota, Minnesota, Omaha, and Providence.

I think we would get R.I.T. with Providence going to Missouri since Western Michigan would have to go East. If they regionalize it we could get WCHA but BC has earned that.

  9. Nightmare scenario as it currently stands for the NCAA Tournament Committee.....things will change, but as of today I would not envy them.

    Natural layout.

    BC, Maine, Quinnipiac, Bemidji State

    BU, Wisconsin, Michigan, R.I.T.

    UND, Minnesota, Colorado College, Massachusetts

Denver, Michigan State, Western Michigan, Providence

last teams out Nebraska Omaha and SCSU.

Issues....Michigan vs. Wisconsin needs to be changed. How do they keep top 2 seeds out East with Massachusetts being a host team and as a 4 seed and not able to matchup against either of them. Providence is not host team but I am sure they would like to keep them in Providence if they could. What if Nebraska Omaha moves up and knocks Providence out? Do you then move UND or Denver out East and Bring BU west?

Wayzata and Minnetonka both got beat in section finals, but could be among the best teams in the state. If I'm not mistaken, Wayzata was No. 3 and Tonka No. 1. Looking at the participants, I think it's Edina the clear favorite, Chan as a distant second and the rest are significantly behind.

With the way the Sections are set-up you were going to lose 4 of the top 6 teams in the state heading into the State Tournament.

Kansas City is a team that worries me, depending upon the officials.  They play brutally physical and handsy.  We are a finesse team and didn’t handle that well in the blowout at home.  The next game when they played NDSU they had everybody in foul trouble.  Really depends whether the officials swallow their whistle at not.  If they let them play, they are a handful due to their physicality as ORU is finding out right now..  ORU may not get 45 against them.  Definitely do not want to slow down and get into a bruising game with them.

and they are on a 6 game heater heading into the Tournament.

I thought if two teams were tied the tiebreakers were

    1. head to head

    2. record against the next team in the standings.

    We split with UMKC

We split with St. Thomas and St. Thomas swept UMKC.
