In reagards to (a)- I find it comical that their fans were e-mailing radio stations to get it on the news, only to have the softball story break later in the afternoon.
You forgot to mention their campaign to keep the story on the most viewed list on the Forum's website by continuing to pull it up. Combine those with e-mails being sent to UofM's AD about hockey. Yep, the rivalry is dead.
-
Because they were charged with committing a crime almost two months ago and nothing was said. One player who was charged was never even mentioned in the initial stories. Bisonville and Mike McFeely shouldn't have to force the Herald to do its job.
Today the NDSU softball players were charged and guess when that was reported...today.
Well good for them. The AD of that sport knows how to drop the hammer on her players, unlike Gene (Winning at football is the only priority) Taylor.
Unless of course it is the AD who is suspended. That doesn't make it out unless someone accidentally stumbles upon it.
Please tell me how this..
In anyway refers to how these players may in anyway be potentially charged with any kind of crime, it doesn't even mention that may have potentially committed a crime. I know they were suspended and that isn't what I'm talking about. I'm talking about them getting charged with a Class A Misdemeanor and then having it go unreported for almost two months.
In UND's own press release, Faison directly stated that further punishment may be coming from a variety of places, including the school and law enforcement.

It doesn't seem strange to you that Mis charges are handed out to 5 guys because of an underage situation, and no MIPs are issued to the minors involved? Was that part of a plea bargain? That seem strange to me. Usually you would have both, and the players with the MIPs would not be discinplined significantly or suspended for a 1st offense, but at least it would be in the public record. I would like to see a media story or the university expalin what happened. Right now that situation seems very fishy, and Faison is far from out front on this issue. Obvioulsy he did not want it known that the majority of the team was involved. That's how it appears.
There were minors handed out to the players that were at the dorms when the police showed up. The police never showed up at the party, so how would they have been able to hand out minors to the others? Quite certain this was detailed in multiple articles in September when this happened.

Here's the UND way of handling it. Downplay the severity of it and make it appear like your so swift and hard. Spin it into an NDSU vs UND thing.
Then when 5 class a misdemeanors occur, dont report it and pretend like you handled it. Talk about some good PR people. You get to claim you handled it proactively while your lapdog media ignores it on command.
Glad that you are so concerned with UND athletics that you've now e-mailed Norwood Teague (UM athletic director) suggesting they don't play UND in hockey anymore and have also e-mailed the media with some updates on a story that was from 4 months ago. Must have some free time on the farm this winter.

Downplay it and not be proactive by issuing a release and suspending players before any charges are filed? That probably seems strange to you after watching FU's attempt at PR, but it was not downplayed and they did get in front of it. And I didn't see a word about FU in UND's press release so not sure where you get that from? You also must have missed this part:
"The behavior in this situation was unacceptable," Faison said. "Measures taken by the athletics department do not preclude possible additional measures by the department, or actions by the University or local and state authorities."Faison clearly stated that something more could happen and it did. If you want get upset about it, then send an e-mail to the Herald for not reporting anything additional.

With UND playing .500 ball in another league, and the bison winning NCs, it is easy to see why appox 58% of voters on this board want the game, and 70% of voters on another board don't want the game. Yes, it is a historic rivalry game, but it will also bring its share of toxicity. I think the ndsu folks know that the river will flow south during the week before the game with all kinds of media bs, and maybe even a few facts to go along with the selective memory bs. If I'm the AD from state, why even go there with a FB game and drag yourself into the muck. The current situation is w/o void. If one takes the time to consider the best interests down south, it is not difficult to see why the game is not scheduled.
Nothing toxic coming from the FU faithful at all....
Finally, from a Bison fan who identifies himself only as “bisonation@hotmail.com” who took exception to my statement that the fans were losers with NDSU and UND unable to get their football rivalry renewed:
“We are national (FCS football) champions and (Bison) basketball team that is 16-3. You are nobodies and no one cares about your old incessant whining like a lil’ bitch! Enjoy being the common denominator!! Racist losers.”
What a good ambassador you have representing FU. Doesn't look like law enforcement will have to follow up on this e-mail, but it sure makes the fan base as a whole look real good.

UND appears to be between a 3.5 and 5 point underdog. ESPN gives UND slightly over a 48% change of winning outright. NAU looks to be about .500 at home. Hopefully some people can take a minute from their quest to fire Hak and watch the game this afternoon. As always, will be interesting to see which UND team shows up on the road.

I just walked out of the Alerus Center, at Sioux Boosters, and my takeaway from Coach Hakstol was this: our defensemen need to "play with more sandpaper...Gleason and MacWilliam already do but he wants to see guys like Mattson, Panzerella, Forbert, and Simpson play grittier-not dirty/but tougher in the D zone. Second, Hak was very proud of Zane's play the past few starts since XMas break and that he's worked himself back into a battle for the starting job. Three, he said 9 of our 12 forwards played well on Saturday against the Gophers but that the Rowney line missed several key assignments and they must do better. Last, he said he was proud of Grimaldi and thought the Minnesota series was his best of the season.
Want to add that he included Drake in the Minnesota being his best series of the season as well.

I wanted to pose this question about Brekke and his current situation. Lets say for whatever reason he cannot play the rest of the year (to me its starting to look more and more likely). Can UND be able to get a medical redshirt for Brekke, or has he played too much?
I'm not 100% sure on this, but I'm not sure that a sixth year of eligibility is allowed if the first redshirt year was voluntary. I believe a player has to lose two years to injury, but can't find the exact NCAA rule on it at the moment. Trying to navigate the NCAA rulebook is a nightmare.
That being said, if he was eligible, he would have had to play in under 30%* of the games and none of them after the halfway point. Brekke has played in 8 games so I think he would be OK there. I believe the same questions (having a non-injured redshirt year first) came up about Emmett Lynch during football, though he ended up being able to come back and play the last few games.
*Edit - The old rule was 20%

Yes, but your Average Joe on the street and in the ND legislature doesn't know that. All they'll see is NDSU shelling out $400K for an opponent and then Bresciani crying about funding in a different section of the newspaper. Your assuming that the ND populace is as informed as the people on this board when circumstances have proven that the vast majority are not.
This. And while state money isn't used directly, the athletic departments are subsidized in some shape or form.
-
Wow Darell you're obsessed with this. You have two of your biggest rivals that really don't care to schedule you. Yeah it's MN and NDSU's problem.
Again, NDSU is the one with the scheduling problems this year, not UND. But thank you for your continued interest.
-
Not a good sign when the announcer clearly sees the players foot on the line but the refs don't on a 3-pointer.
-
Huff feeling it from deep. Down by 6 with 3 1/2 to go.
-
Huff with the 3, UND down by 7 with 4 to play.
-
The lack of an inside game is glaringly obvious tonight.
-
Wow was that a terrible call/great acting getting an And-1 on the off balance 3 pointer..
-
Need to play the last 10 minutes like they did the first 10 minutes and forget how ugly the middle 20 were. As ugly as that was, still very much in it.
-
I doubt the television had much to do with the attendence. NDSU's football games are well attended and on tv, same with UND hockey.
Answer, I don't care if it keeps going or goes away. UND didn't seem to care too much about the rivalry back in '03. If it was that important they could have kept playing. Neither school needs the other one.
How old were you in '03? 10 or 11? I doubt you have a whole lot of insight of what went on other than some revisionist history you've read on the intertubes.

I grew up in a much different household than my peers. Had you been to the basketball game this year in the FargoDome, you'd see it is dying. 3 years ago when the two teams played in the dome, there was 8-10,000 there. At the Ralph last year I believe attendence was around 6,000-ish? This year at the dome was in the 5,000 neck of the woods.
Without football, rivalry is going away.
Yet it was still your highest attended game of the year. Even more than your "rival" SDSU. Same with your volleyball team.

I like it when QBs move to safety because:
(a) they, as you said, think like a QB, and
(b) tend to have a lot of pent up frustration from being hit and want to return some of it.
If he's 6'2" and runs a legitimate 4.50 40-yard dash, you find room for him on the field. Haven't saw any film of him on defense, but wonder if he could match up at corner against some of the Big Sky receivers.

This poll has be open for almost two years. Go back and look at one of the handful of other polls on your board that seem to pop up once or twice a year. The results are more in line with what you are seeing here. And again, UND's schedule is full this year, they aren't putting NDSU on it and playing 12 games in a row without a bye. They already have two tough non-conference games with what will be a brand new QB (likely a red-shirt freshman). The only thing I see changing UND's mind is Montana buying out their game.

SFI has Kurt Palandech listed as a verbal on the side of e blog - must have missed that one although we knew he was visiting
That page and this one both list his 40 yard dash at 4.50. His highlights show him playing mainly QB in high school but he is listed as playing DB as well. If that speed is legit and he's 6'2" 185lbs, there are probably a handful of options to find him some time on the field.
Per this article, the newspaper named him a first team all area and:
Notable: Two-time All-Southwest Prairie. Completed 60-of-122 passes, 49.2 percent, for 981 yards and 12 touchdowns. Rushed for 684 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 7.5 per carry. Excellent defensive back when needed there. Made 17 tackles, 12 solo, broke up four passes and had three interceptions. Being recruited by MAC, Ivy League and D-II schools.
Coach Tim Kane: “Kurt has been a great leader and made so many plays on both sides of the ball. As a QB he is dangerous due to his speed, athleticism and throwing ability. Numerous times he made positive yards when it had looked like a play for a loss.”
Welcome Kurt!

Actually I dont know. Hence my query. If there was proof that Faison had indeed sent the contract for one game and it hasnt been acted on then I would have to question why GT hadnt acted on it. Darryl stated that Faison had sent the contract. If that was so the media would be all over it. But alas there has been no shatstorm in the media in this regard. So I would have to assume that Darryl was wrong and his statement was nothing more than hyperbole with an agenda.
You see I would love to see the rivalry restarted. But if you are going to be accusatory at least try to be factual.
"Until contracts are signed, it's still tentative," he told the Grand Forks Herald. "We'll be sending (NDSU) contract drafts ... the first of next week."
Short of checking GT's mail for him, I guess you should ask Izzo or Kolpack to follow-up and see if it got lost.

As much as I would like to see the two teams play, the game isn't happening this year barring Montana buying out their return trip to Grand Forks. UND is not playing 12 games in a row with its only bye week being the final week of the season. NDSU will have to solve this year's scheduling problems with another expensive one-time game.
