  1. Sounds like a headcase, not a team player. I don't want somebody with that kind of attitude on the roster of my favorite team, and I'm not surprised that somebody like that would be the same kind of somebody who prefers the gaudy/tacky style uniforms. Give me throwback players and throwback uniforms 7 days a week and twice on Sundays.

Are ones that say Flickertails acceptable? :whistling:

  2. I believe they just use the cameras FSSN uses, like FCS does right now. But I'm not positive on that. For something like this they may use their own cameras, but I don't think those channels are HD at all.

CBS SN is broadcast in both standard and high definition (314 and 635 respectively on Midco in Grand Forks). Regardless, not sure on whether they bring there own cameras in or not.

  3. Notice how the REA stays away from it by not allowing the petioners to have them in the arena? The Great Oz is hiding from the truth. They remind me of the Koch Brothers.

Getting your information from the anti-nickname folks or Bisonville? Just curious so I know what kind of response you'll come up with next...

  4. Just to clarify, I gave my perception of what Miller was getting at. The transcript of the chat can be read here: http://www.grandfork...s/undsportschat so people can draw their own conclusions. It's his response to the question of why the Herald doesn't handle football verbal commitments similar to how Schlossman reports hockey verbal commitments that I found especially telling.

Maybe it was somewhat of a dig at our neighbors to the south who seem to have recruiting info in the paper whether its 100% accurate or not. Or at least that's what it seems, particularly lately with the article in the Forum how the RB from Wisconsin had committed (Horne I think?) when in reality, he hadn't. Same with the write-up about Mollberg leaning towards NDSU. Could it be that someone down there leaks this info the paper? Or I could be reading into it all wrong and Mussman is just tight lipped about it and that is it.

  5. I guess I didn't know that there were NDSU fans that were claiming to be the best Division I football team in the country.

The championship is what it is, a Division I football championship. Nobody is claiming to be anything other than the best Division I FCS football team when they win the FCS championship.

It isn't anything more than that, but it certainly isn't anything less than that. Don't try to downplay the accomplishment by saying it isn't any better than an old DII championship.

You obviously missed the NDSU/Alabama thread over on your home turf... :silly:

  6. As far as yard signs. I guess I can't argue with you there. I guess UND is perhaps not passing out signs to stick in peoples yards...really? Can't people make there own signs. Personally, I want no signs in my yard period. Political, Sports or otherwise. But yes you are right UND Marketing is certainly guilty in not providing me a sign for my yard. Shame on you UND Marketing ;)

They did this 2 or 3 years ago and you saw them all over town. I had family and college friends from across the state and region asking me to get them so they could put them in their yards. Felt pretty good pulling up to a friend's house in Fargo with UND signs proudly displayed in the lawn. Laugh about them if you want, but people like things like that. Pretty cheap exposure and it makes fans feel proud to be able to stick something simple in their yard to show their pride.

  7. i think the petition should be for und to mandate a new nickname be put to popular vote.

What could go wrong giving a voice to those that don't really care or even worse, those that would love to see something that is easily ridiculed put in place (i.e. our friends to the south).

  8. As other have said, good job by Faison to replace Central Arkansas so quickly. Both Massey and Sagarin have UCA and PSU ranked very closely, but it will be nice to get a preview of a Big Sky opponent a year earlier than planned. Still would have been nice to get a playoff team from this year at home though. Has anyone heard if its a one game deal with a guarantee for PSU or if we did a home and home deal? My guess would be a guarantee with the money from Central Arkansas but I haven't heard one way or another (might have just missed it).

It will be interesting to see if there is any room in the budget to get rid of the SD Mines game. As much as it pains me, I would rather see us go on the road against a counter than play a non-counter that is a no-win situation for the team.

  9. I understand you're trying to make an issue out of this based on technicalities, because when losing an argument always resort to technicalities. I'm much more interested in the spirit of the law over the letter of the law.

Seriously? Pot, have you met kettle? (Dave, from earlier arguments, you'd probably want to be kettle in this one)

  10. I've been critical of UND"s marketing, particularly of football and basketball, but I received a phone call tonight thanking me for my support of Fighting Sioux athletics and a reminder to be at the game this weekend to support UND in their quest for a Great West Conference championship. I was also encouraged to spread the word to people as they are looking to pack the house. I was going to the game anyway, but it is nice to see them stepping up efforts to get attendance up at the game and give them a chance to show off what has become an improved product on the field. Kudos UND athletic marketing!

  11. The conference by adding Belmont (Nashville) is moving south. UNK would be a move east.

Football would make perfect sense for them. They would have 4 teams in MVFC closer than their closest team in OVC. Indy State would be a quick 50 miles away. In other sports it is a little more spread out but would have a decent footprint with IUPUI, IPFW, Western Illinois and UMKC. It wouldn't be as tight as the OVC but it wouldn't be completly outlandish.

I thought the MVFC was "full"? There was a last minute push by Douple to get the MVFC just to add USD so he could keep them in the Summit, how is he going to convince the MVFC to expand another time so he can get another member into the Summit?

  12. 21 years for NDSU 10 years for UND, who cares both are ancient history. The fact remains that NDSU is a few years ahead of UND in the transition to Division I. At this point comparing the two schools NDSU has had more success during the transition process, doesn't mean it can't change.

Of course football games are played on the field and when that happens in a rivalry game anything can happen. But, I feel any objective observer of the two programs would have to say NDSU is on the right path looking forward while UND is in need of some serious changes to compete in the Big Sky let alone nationally.

I've always respected UND's program and sincerely hope they can find the path back to being a successful program.

And then proceeded to fall flat on their face as soon as they were eligible. It doesn't matter what you do during transition, it matters what you do coming out of it. Probably why they call it transition huh? SDSU struggle through theirs for the most part and then made the playoffs before NDSU. I'd rather do that than be 3-8 in UND's first year to prove themselves (hopefully its not both).

  13. 8>1 While I would love to have the Nickel, I am more than happy to polish off National Championship trophies, keeping one clean can be tough, but keeping 8 looking good is just a nuisance, I suppose UND doesn't know what 8 championships feels like......unless you combine sports ;)

I'm dicking around, as a hardcore Bison fan and a student with friends at both schools, NDSU has taken losing the rivalry a bit more hard cause UND had a chance to stay with us, go D1, and have a great time in what is a top 3 FCS conference ( better than Big Sky, USD beat EWU tonight), but UND chose not to, if it was the other way around, I'm guessing it would be a similar situation. I really loved the rivalry, even though during my lifetime UND won more, they were generally really good games if you go back and watch them. I wish they were in the same conference so both sides would HAVE to play one another. Obviously right now there is some bad blood between the Athletic Departments and I don't want an annual game( 6 home games is really nice), but even every 2-4 years would be nice. MVFC is the place to be right now, can only wish UND had been able to see the hindsight that they can now and would have joined when NDSU and SDSU moved up.

    1) USD is in the GWFC, not the MVFC. Next year you can use that, but not this year.

    2) By your definition the Patriot League is better than the MVFC since Lehigh beat the MVFC champion UNI on their field in the first round of the playoffs last year.

    3) If you really like the MVFC, you should be happy all four Dakota teams didn't go together. After the Big Sky told NDSU no, their only option was the MVFC. They only wanted one team, and it was SDSU because of location SDSU said it was a package deal only and both teams were accepted. Do you really think that if all four Dakota teams were sitting there that SDSU would have taken NDSU over USD? Or that the MVFC would have taken all four teams? Highly doubtful.

  14. If you are Brian Faison, Josh Morton, or someone else in the know at the athletic department I would love to meet with you and discuss why UND didn't secure more tickets...I am guessing you are not so our conversation is over

....bottom line is that UND could have, should have, and now wishes it would have secured more tickets...I called them on it and yes, looking back I was too harsh, but I, like you, want as many Sioux fans in the building as possible...my frustration with UND on this matter stems from my knowledge on this matter and what opportunities for tickets were available and lost.

Last comment...those of you without tickets who are on the fence ...make the trip...tickets will be available on the street...championship game tickets will be easier to get as the losing teams will be selling...even if you don't get tickets the atmosphere will be awesome and you won't regret it even if you have to watch it in the bar acoss the street. :)

So you went from saying each team in the field of 16 got 600 tickets (which as other have pointed out, would be 9,600 tickets and over half of the arena) to now saying that the other schools might have got some tickets, but you aren't sure. But regardless, its UND's fault. Do I have that correct? We all have our frustrations with the administration, but you have taken it a little far.
