This is why I am not dumping my season tickets. But this is still unacceptable and the last straw for me. President Armacost is the only one who can change the tone and expectations around here. I honestly don't care what Chaves has to say about anything anymore.

Armacost has been an absolute shot in the arm for the athletic department with the momentum on all the capital projects and Alston payments among other things. Given all the support he has given the athletic department and of course the AD reports to him, do you actually think Chaves didn't discuss this with Armacost prior to it being done?

No, talking to people who were actually involved in the meetings. Notice I didn't say I anywhere that I did or didn't agreed with any of it? There's enough to criticize without making things up.

Bubba's body of work speaks for itself, but this contract is a reflection of Chaves lack of awareness.

He's paid the second lowest salary in the conference and the assistant pool is middle of the pack.
By the end of his latest extension he'll still be below the median.
I don't think that complaining he's overpaid compared to where they've finished in the conference is the argument that I think you think it is.

This is not saying he should be paid more or should have gotten an extension, it is a fact based comment on conference salaries.

This entire athletic department is being run like a high school and I am sick and tired of it.

Regardless of opinions, continuing to repeat this strange take, in whatever context it actually is supposed to mean, doesn't make it true.

It was also strategic to announce it on the first day of March Madness hoping that it would get lost in the shuffle and less people would see it. Our athletic department is a joke

I mean if it was a true conspiracy theory and they were actually trying to "hide" it, they would have released it tomorrow before the hockey game when the standard UND fan would be locked in to that.
Or they could have went full blown tinfoil hat, taken the NDSU route and just not announce it like they've done twice now with their MBB coach.

Who was blaming Chaves for not having an NIL in place?  He cannot be apart of it, officially.  I would say he is net neutral on that topic

I agree with you except for the net neutral part. I would feel comfortable saying he is supportive of anything that can retain the top performers at UND.
But I can go back and find plenty of comments that are contrary to that opinion.

You, me and a bunch of other people.

Blame the guy that donated $$$$$ to Penn State to start hockey.

That is what ultimately caused this.

Damn him for growing the sport of college hockey!!

His son had to physically restrain him from drafting Johnny Manziel. He hasn't changed as much as some people think.

If Russell Wilson (who is on the downside of his career) can be traded for multiple picks, then Justin Jefferson (who is in his prime as a generational talent) can be as well. Either the Vikings pay him QB money or they trade him to someone looking for that final piece to win a title. Letting him walk and getting nothing in return is not an option.

    Fun story, not true though....

    https://www.si.com/nfl/cowboys/news/nfl-draft-true-story-jerry-jones-dallas-cowboys-and-almost-johnny-manziel

Yes, Jefferson would be worth a decent haul. But no one has even remotely suggested letting him walk for nothing. Which is why they are working on extending him.

Jerry Jones wants flashy players to fill that 100,000 seat stadium of his. He's always been like that. He cares more about entertainment than winning. That is one reason the Cowboys haven't won anything in 30 years.

Again, when was the last time they splurged in free agency or gave away a giant haul in a trade? Maybe TO almost 20 years ago now?
Jones has significantly changed his approach for at least the last decade.
Not to say he wouldn't make a blockbuster deal but that perception hasn't been reality for a long time.

Next season is probably a lost cause. The coaches and GM know it but would never say. This offseason is very important for their longer term future. They need to get the QB situation figured out for the long term, which pretty much requires them to draft a QB in the first round, probably moving up by trading with San Diego. I would seriously look at trade offers for Jefferson. Really don’t want to lose him but I’m not sure it is worth paying any non QB 30+ million a year, especially if it’s guaranteed money. A top QB along with good offensive and defensive lines will give you a shot at a Super Bowl.

The books are set up very nice for 2025. If they can land a solid QB this year, they will be in good shape. If not, they are likely hoping to do it in 2025 if the season doesn't go well.
Guessing they sign Jefferson to a monster extension (that he's earned) to keep around some solid pieces heading into the next few years.

I bet we could soak Jerry Jones for a couple of first round picks for Jefferson. Jones is a sucker for flashy players like that. It would be sweet payback for the Hershel Walker deal.

What's the last big name free agent the Cowboys signed or traded a giant haul away for?
They are saving their money to keep their homegrown talent their, they aren't going to be your huckleberry.

Multiple former players have said that Moody was kicked off for having a kid. A former coach denies it. Truth is probably somewhere in the middle

Fair to clarify that the players (at least that were mentioned) who stated that, didn't leave on the greatest terms with the coach and left to find playing time elsewhere.

Well, with Sam Darnold at QB, the Vikings might get the #1 overall pick in 2025. So maybe we should wait.

Clearly they aren't looking at anything long-term with Darnold. They signed him to a very fair one-year deal based on what QB's of similar regard are getting in the market (with more than a few signing 2 year deals). The 49ers were comfortable with him (at a lower price) to be a safety net/backup for Purdy this past season. He fits well into what KOC's offense is as well.

And if he bombs, then you're right, good shot at a QB next year without mortgaging the future.

    Darnold over Fields? SMH

I know MIN would have to give up a pick or 2 but Darnold? Really??

This I agree with. Sounds like the cost has went from a 2nd or 3rd round pick to a 3rd day pick to acquire him, which is crazy. And for that price, a team wouldn't even feel obligated to pick up his 5th year option at $25+ million.
Guessing the Bears have zero desire to trade him within the division, at least yet. He could still be an option because I doubt they want him hanging a shadow over (likely) Caleb Williams.

Now that Cousins has signed with the Falcons, the Vikings should do whatever it takes to get that #1 overall pick from Chicago. The Bears are probably going to stick with Fields at QB, so trading the #1 pick would give them loads of extra draft capital. The Vikings would have the pick of any QB they want. Get that franchise QB and build around him. In today's NFL, if you don't have a QB, you don't have a team. Period. #timetogetserious

You can't be serious. The hit rate of first round picks, let along QB's, is something like 30-40%. Mortgaging multiple years worth of 1st and 2nd round picks, which is exactly what the team needs to get through some salary cap issues, would be an absolute abomination of an idea.

well look on the bright side - there's going to be a NEW MCDONALD'S and a new STARBUCKS going up around 40th Ave. S!!!!*

    * - (sarcasm alert) - I'd upgrade that to WTF??  Now Crooked Pint, Famous Dave's and now Vinyl Taco have all folded in that area.   Jersey Mikes has decent sandwiches but don't look at the kitchen floor if you go in.  Pretty soon the Canadians are just going to say f-it and go straight on to Fargo if they haven't already.

Do you think those restaurants are closing because they made too much money? And the ones you complain about are opening new locations because their current ones are unprofitable so they are going to throw some more money out there and see what happens?
Blame the community for not supporting more local options.

Literally nobody said they should be recruiting only North Dakota girls. This roster is a mess no matter how hard you try to spin it.  Minnesota, South Dakota, Iowa, Wisconsin.  All recruited by our other teams, why not WBB?

There are 3 MN players and one WI player on the team, so it isn't like they aren't recruiting those areas. Also, the staff didn't have much for connections in those areas which is fairly important. However with Bledsoe being added, I would expect to see that start to changing even a bit more.

For anyone to think we have enough talent on this team to compete is delusional at best.  Coaching is hardly the main issue.  The players are below average outside of a couple.  They are not even close to being upper-level Summit players.

which is why you see us losing by 50+ points.  She isn’t ready to run this program and it is showing.  And what was the point of bringing back Motherwell?  He is the main contact that got us into this mess.  Ignoring the four-state area and going to Canada/Michigan.  Great idea

Don't we have a bunch of commits from the local area right now coming in over the next couple years?

Anyone heard any news?? Crickets coming out of Football?

What exactly are you looking for?
They had two light practices before going on spring break. New QBs, OC and OL coach, going to work through figuring stuff out.
Guessing there will be some content once they are on a more consistent schedule next week.
Practices are open to the public for anyone that wants to go.

I'm sure the SDSU fans that made the trip up saw what a joke we are for basketball.

A handful of them joined in on the joke and acted like a bunch of teenagers.
It appeared they took offense to the UND football team's antics (which is no different than they have done at any other game) and decided to one up them and act like high schoolers. Not a good look for some of those parents/fans.

SDSU has a really good team. Two solid bigs and then Mayo. Mims was chasing guys around all night.
UND didn't get the rebounding edge it needed and SDSU got hot from 3 (partially due to some second chances and also missed assignments/rotations).
