  1. I don't think the issue is the Jones is a bad coach, his Big Sky record and finishes back that up. The issue is that he also isn't a great coach. Hasn't shown quite enough to get a better job and performs enough to keep his job. In his defense, the revolving door at the assistant coach positions hasn't done him any favors. Typically his teams play better as the season goes on, hopefully he can continue that trend, though I'm wondering if the holes were just too big to fill this year, particularly the unexpected losses.
  2. You're probably safe.
  3. Where do you come up with this crap? He transferred and is playing for Crookston this semester.
  4. Start Avants over Shanks and have him and Dale the first two off the bench plus Jafar and Billy. You have a nice 9 man rotation and Kienan gets another year to learn and bulk up while playing some minutes.
  5. It was clear tonight why Idaho was picked to win the league despite not playing very well. They have shooters, a lot of length and are very athletic. Sanders only played 19 minutes and didn't even score in the second half. Lack of depth showed big time tonight with Jafar having to start for Jones. No length and no second guy to play in the post with Avants to help break up the zone. The struggle shouldn't be a huge surprise when you lose 5 of your top 8 guys (by minutes played from last year), which could maybe be mitigated a bit if 3 of them wouldn't have been unexpected, especially when the unexpected losses are all at the 4/5 position where UND is extremely weak right now. The rotation would look a lot different and a lot better right now if Drick, Shanks and Collins were available. There isn't really a way to plan ahead for that, when you don't have anyone waiting in the wings quite yet because you expect to have one or two more years. That being said, I'm not sure what that was tonight, especially on the offensive end. Couple guys seem tenative to shoot, which made breaking that zone seem impossible. I wasn't surprised to see them come out flat but that exceeded expectations in the wrong way. Need to hope Dale is back soon (thanks for the jinx Tom!!) and they can get into the rhythm they slowly seemed to be finding. Geno/Marlo/Tez have the talent to carry this team with some secondary help, but they can't seem to get on the same page. Hoping they figure something out soon.
  6. I wish the days of the tournament were better but obviously TV dictates that. The one silver lining is only the Saturday game actually interferes with any hockey games, so people won't be forced to choose. I don't see a reason to change the location, they do a good with it in Sioux Falls. I won't be surprised at a less than stellar turnout from UND fans the first couple years until they fully understand and get behind it.
  7. Walk-ons don't sign NLI however there is other paperwork they can submit to the school that allows them to be announced with the rest of the signing class, which is how coaches can talk about them. If they don't have the paperwork in, they can't be mentioned, which would be a recruiting violation, however it is not binding like a NLI is. This is why you don't always see every name you expect to, at least initially.
  8. NDSU can't introduce him unless he signs and submits paperwork otherwise that is a violation of NCAA rules by the school. He was introduced by NDSU on the 20th. The signing period ended the 22nd, which is after NDSU announced him, not before.
  9. So some random person on Twitter asks the Grand Canyon and UT-Rio Grand Valley AD's if there is any merger talks with zero sourcing (to which they both respond "No") and somehow that's the Idaho board reporting the AD is saying that? Unless you have more sources (like the actual link where someone "reported" it), the mental gymnastics to get from A to B on this one is even impressive than normal.
  10. He had an offer and committed before "decommitting" 6 months later. No clue on why or any details, but he's at UND now. https://www.landof10.com/iowa/wisconsin-lb-mike-bruner-de-commits-iowa
  11. Don't hold your breath... The only talk I saw of any conference stuff was some comments about setting up divisions in the Big Sky for football and playing a championship game. The problem with the theory is they completely forgot to include a team and you can't play a conference championship game in FCS if you want to be eligible for the playoffs. So I'd take any "reports" with a huge grain of salt.

    2018 Season

Doubt they'd do that since they know it would just continue to encourage FargoU fanboys to stalk and go after recruits on social media. There's anyway enough of that going on the way it is.
  13. Based on who's opinion?

    2018 Season

Pretty safe assumption at this point however the offseason is long and anything can happen.

    2018 Season

Bubba wants to run the ball and control the clock. To do that, WR's blocking is a huge part of the equation. I think it can be assumed that someone recruited as a WR is going to be able to catch the ball, however not everyone can or is willing to do the tough part of run blocking. And frankly, out of the 3 that signed, Maag is the only one who you might consider a true playmaker. I didn't see the interview, so I can' comment on that, but I've heard plenty of talk from Rudolph about WR's making plays. I'm not saying that the offense doesn't need to improve, take deep shots or get more creative, but that all starts with the OL. Tough to stretch the field or run some of the patterns to create mismatches when the QB doesn't have enough time to take their drop and get set up to throw deep. I don't think the offense is as bad as some on here think it is (and numbers back a lot of that up) but it is almost universal across football for fans to rip the Offensive Coordinator when things aren't going as planned, outside of a handful of high profile offenses.
  16. This is 100% what I was getting at. Thank you for spelling it out better than I could have. The trickle down effect of the injuries hurts every facet of the game. I know that UND will sometimes use starters on kick coverage (Ratelle was always fun to watch), but at some point, when you don't have any back-ups because the third stringers are starting, you have to make sacrifices somewhere. I asssumed people just got tired of blaming the OC for everything so special teams was the next logical spot to look.
  17. I won't get into the hate on Rudolph, no one is going to change their minds but I don't get the hate on Kostich at all. I've heard nothing but good things from players and people connected to the program about him. I get the angst on the QB thing but I guess at this point the alternative was to sign someone they aren't sold on and UND would be their only offer, so no one would be happy. If they are going to do that, there's no reason they can't just do it in February. At least now they have more time to find someone they like.
  18. Guessing the actual license plate will look exactly the same as pretty much every other orgizational plate in the state and not be off-centered like the mock-up.
  19. He's got a bright future. For a RFr who missed that much fall camp, he showed some serious flashes.
  20. Your post was about enrollment. I pointed out that your statements appear to be false based on actual numbers publicly available. At UMass, they were trending that direction well before any FBS announcement and there has been no noticeable change because of the announcement. UT-A and Wichita State are light years ahead of where they were when they dropped football 30 years ago. I don't think that is actually relevant, but they were your example. Because they don't have football, Wichita State is able to pump more money into basketball, which they have become very successful at. It is just as logical to conclude that Wichita State would actually be in a worse position had they not dropped football. Same with UT-A. You could state that resources that were previously going to football have been reallocated and allowed them focus on other areas and that has spurred their growth.
  21. And here I thought we weren't going to see completely negative posts after giving the #12 team all they could handle and taking them to overtime in one of the toughest places to play in the nation. At least you let it build up for 4 days before having to let it out.
  22. Just curious which of those examples you actually looked into before tossing them out there? I'd guess not many since they don't really support what you claim. Coastal Carolina was growing well before they announced any FBS move and the growth rate has been flat or slightly declining since their announcement, which was in the fall of 2015. There was definitely no huge jump in 2016 or 2017 supporting your theory Georgia Southern's enrollment has been flat (actually down 0.8%) since 2012, so they have not seen an increase. UMass has seen a fairly minimal increase since their announcement (5% total over 5 years, average of less than 1% increase per year) and they were increasing before any announcements, so I'm not sure how you can quantify any increase specifically on the move when they were already moving in that direction prior to any announcement or move. Wichita State dropped football over 30 years ago, so I'm not sure how that's relevant but in 2017 they have recently been having record enrollments. However they dropped football in 1986 when they had enrollment of 16,843 and then proceeded to have increases for the next 3 years to a record high of 17,419 in 1989 before seeing any drop. UT-Arlington also dropped football over 30 years ago so again, not sure how relevant that is in today's world, but they too are currently having record enrollments and are around double what they were when they dropped football. However I can't find any historical data that supports a major enrollment drop when they dropped football.
  23. Hopefully he's not still waiting at the airport for that private plane to land....
  24. Very few guys are actually on full scholarship, so they could have been offering him more. 18 full scholarships to split up between up to 27 guys.
  25. Teams were complaining about the new 9 game conference schedule and having to buy 3 home games the years where they only have 4 conference home games. To help with that, they are allowing B1G schools to schedule FCS games in the years they have 4 home/5 away conference games.
