  1. I agree that it is probably staff rather than the AD themselves that are watching message boards. But it is a useful tool to find out what some people are thinking. These are often people that are very emotionally invested in the programs. I highly doubt that decisions are made solely on the basis of what is said on message boards. But anywhere you can get more information is a good tool to use.

I agree and it is probably used more for marketing. I recall seeing Max Huber on this board come and post when there are specials.

  2. It would seem odd that a AD would care what people, more specifically fans of a specific team are saying on a message board.

I am not against message boards I think they are great but you would think that most AD are "above the fray."

While I said ad I don't think for one minute an actual ad is surfing the message boards I guarantee it is staff.

  3. It sounds like it, as long as he completes the required school work.

He is a pretty good player. I would assume that midway through this semester he will either gain the eligbility or perhaps he heads to major juniors.

    Thoughts?

  4. Penticton is going to be really, really good. MacMillan and O'Donnell are obviously going to be solid. SCSU will have three foward recruits on the team... though none of them are considered awesome, they'll all be better than your average BCHL forward. I hope Harbison does SCSU a favor and keeps them all on the same line.

FYI, Mark MacMillan's older brother Mitch is playing at SCSU this year after decommitting from Northeastern.

Did the brother just recently decommit? It sounded like they both were going to go to Northeastern at first and wanted to try stay together but obiviously if you have UND recruiting you then Northeastern is an after thought. At least they will be in the same league now. I proabably would have chosen SCSU over Northeastern as well. However you won't get me to say that about UND.

  5. Also, Chicago pushed Toews hard to sign after the summer camp between his frosh and soph seasons. That Toews came back didn't reflect so much Chicago's view of UND as it did Toews' view. Similarly, St. Louis wanted Oshie badly a year before he left. In those cases anyway, the extra year UND got wasn't because the NHL teams wanted another year of UND development, it was because the players themselves wanted to return, reflecting a pretty sound internal culture in the program.

However if I remember correctly both orgs were pleased to have both players come back another year at UND. So they weren't giving them an utlimatium.

  6. Was doing a little shopping at the Menards in Fargo yesterday and who is in my checkout lane? None other then Dean Blais himself. When we were both out in the parking lot I had to give him a Lets Go Sioux to which he kindly turned around and waved to me with a big smile on his face.

That guy is class all the way.

  7. GPL says TWO failed drug tests.

I don't know for what....pot? steroids? Although I just don't know how steroids could be the culprit.... does the NCAA or UMN have drug testing?

This is probably the most attention this program has received since they won back to back NC. Unfortunately for them it is probably the wrong attention they would like.

  8. Mpls Bison: I will answer your comment. I did extensive research into a Masters in Finance. After I had gathered the information I was seeking, but before I did on campus visits, this is how I rated the schools:

    1. Minnesota (Carlson) and North Dakota (tie)

    3. Wisconsin and Oregon (tie)

    5. St. Cloud

    6. Iowa

After the visits my ratings changed:

    1. North Dakota

    2. Oregon

    3. St. Cloud

    4. Wisconsin

    5. Iowa

My dad was a Vietnam Veteran and he and other Nam vets told stories of how they were treated after returning from Vietnam. They were made to feel little better than the lowest life form. After my visit to Carlson I can relate to that treatment.

I work at UND and I can attest that we are absolutely Military friendly. I have done tech support with many soldiers in iraq and afghanistan who through the fog of war are still taking classes. Unbelievable! I am also a senator on UND staff senate and whenever we have events that we take donations we always give them to Soliders Angels. As a service member that makes all the difference in selecting a school. Take note bison boy.

  9. So any news on the Canadian player that was weighing UND? Sounds like the team will be solid regardless, but it never hurts to add another of the best players in the world...

Not sure if you are referring to the Beer Swilling Marie Philip-Poulin. She decided to take her game to BU. I hope we spank them just for that reason alone.

  10. Welcome to Sioux Sports...

This picture was taken inside a C17 Globemaster by a friend of mine on his way to Afghanistan. He is a NDSU grad and proud Team Maker but he earns his living with the degree he obtained from UND.

    :D

That is awesome and gave me goose bumps. Thank you all for your service to this country. Welcome aboard Backpages and good luck with your graduate program.

  11. Schmaltz's dad played football for the Sioux. FWIW, I'd say it's more like 50/50 on Ohio State and UND. He decommitted for one reason, Osiecki leaving. Ohio State will be a player for this kid.

It was my impression that he wanted to stay in the WCHA. I assume could have changed his mind. My thought is why would you not join UW or UND and join Ohio State. I understand Osiecki is the coach now but they won't be close to a NC for at least 2-4years. I mean this is hockey not football. Being in the WCHA will probably give him a good shot at winning a NC. My opinion is that he goes to UND.

  12. Perry was a wonderful father, husband, and man. He fought the disease to the best of his ability; he never quit. Not only did he never quit, he never asked anyone to feel sorry for him or did he ever let us see him feeling sorry for himself. As I watched him these last few years, he cherished his life, his children and his family. I appreciate the gifts I have more today, and I know many others do also, because Perry showed us that life is short and needs to be embraced.

He was a good man and he will be missed but he won't be forgotten. :)

    Here Here. well said.

  13. Perry passed away today (7/14/10) a lttle after noon. He was surrounded by Mick, Brenna and Tyler. He will be missed.

God Bless a true Fighting Sioux warrior. God bless Nako family I offer my deepest sympathy.
