  1. I was one who would always lead these cheers and chants in the pit crew at the old arena. A guy talked to me one time about not doing this and being removed and also wanted to use me as a leader to change this. I probably didn't do the best job at this. I still yelled but just didn't swear outloud. I didn't want to try to stop others because I still thought it was funny. Now looking back I feel bad for the families and little kids around us that may have heard and I am embarassed. I think that is just the way we all were in college. We just didn't care like many of the high school students I now have in class. They always threatend to put a camera on the section, which I didn't think was right if they ever did. Anyways, I think that if everybody is still swearing that will be tough to change because it is part of our tradtition sadly enough. The only reason I ever started up was because I heard others do the chants and they were fun at the time. I think the game would be just as enjoyable with or without the language, but if I took my kids to a game I just wouldn't sit by the students. I don't think it is that big of a deal for Kupchella to get his undies in a bunch. I remember when Baker used to sit with the pit crew and he would cheer with us. What is Kupchella going to do? How would he ever get people to stop the beer polka cheer and fun stuff like that? It wouldn't be a Sioux game if the beer cheer isn't heard. Friends of mine and I still get together and sing it when we watch. I remember when we used to heckle the other team so bad that they would shoot pucks at us in warmups. This was an advantage for out team because it took these players out of the game mentally. Perhaps the opposing players were thinking about us or pressing too hard, but I think it helped us. I remember our team laughing a few times, which may have relaxed them and given them some extra motivation and causing the other team to take stupid penalties. That helped create our dominating home ice advantage and hype for each game. I don't know if this is possible in the new rink since the glass is so high, but it may not be the best way to go about acting at a game now. I agree that now we should cheer our team on more than we try to drag down the other team, but probably not to the extent that Kupchella does.

Why the name schmitzzz? It looks like the simpsons guy is yawning, hence the zzz, but he is tossing something in his mouth. Sorry, I'm just bored with nothing to listen to or watch.

I wish somebody would have said this stupid radio stuff didn't work earlier in the week. I could be watching at the bar but didn't feel like going out.

BC won 4-0. We need to top that performance. Also, Tech lost 6-0 to crumby CC. No goals for Connor, which is good for Bochenski.

Wait, so we got two goals? I heard the feed for just a second to hear goal. It sounded like it was waist high, good thing they aren't the same refs as last weekend.

Keep the updates coming. I was going to listen the the audio, but it isn't come through using a phone line connection.
  13. QUOTE Blais said it's in the past and they have to move on and take care of the future. He mentioned that the players go online and debate whether it was a good goal or not. That's interesting.... (I don't know how to do the fancy quote in a box copy, sorry) Dagies are you really one of the Parise brothers in disguise? Thanks you are the best PCM I know!!!
  14. "We will, We will, rock you!" With a picture of the rockies Mile high scoring differential again? CO=mountains & skiing ND=better hockey (nothing else matters or period) Pioneers=old history Sioux=continuing history or Pioneers=strong in the past Sioux=still strong (relating to heritage or does this cross the line?) Penalty box signs, quotes could be really funny since the teams are facing the box. You could also make many of these very quickly. Needed a breather? Throwing in the towel or giving up so soon? "This sucks" "Wow, that white team is good!" "I like watching, can I sit tomorrow coach?" "Quit looking at me, I didn't do it" "I just cost us the game, my bad" "Anybody got a newspaper?" "I just want this game to be over." "Can I go home yet?" (Thought bubbles) Leather penalty box seats, I wish we had an arena like this.
  15. Here we go again. Great success comes with higher expectations. In Charley Walters' gossip column he says, "Look for the Columbus Bluejackets to interview Dean Blais for their head coaching job at season's end." This happens every year and I don't think I see it going through. I think Blais is happy where he is and receives enough money without the big headaches coaching in the NHL would cause. What do y'all think? Has anybody heard anything? I hope he wouldn't consider it. They also have news on Potluny being out 5 weeks and talk about Paul Martin.
  16. I just thought this would be an interesting poll to see why we or at least I have become so obssesed with this team. I actually originally went to school up at UND after they won the championship in '97 mainly because I wanted to go to a school with a D1 sport that wasn't too big and hockey is exciting to watch, no I am hooked. It is fun going to games such as this last weekend and visiting with other fellow fans. The first thing they usually ask is did you go to school there? I know that many people haven't and like the Sioux for other reasons, which is why I started this poll. I am a teacher at a high school and my school pride has caught on, but many students just wear the colors because they think the logo is neat. Some actually have decided to go up there to school, I feel like a recruiter at times. Also, I noticed that the gophers moved down in the INCH poll, how did that happen? I would have thought they would have moved up after beating #1 and losing by such a small margin. The stupid east teams are always getting more recognition for their efforts. Oh well, polls don't mean much anyways.
  17. There isn't any reason to start mudslinging the gophers and their fans. I think both teams took some dirty or perhaps extra little shots at each other, but that's what happens in a heated rivalry. I am pretty sure that we will meet up with the gophers again this season whether it be in the final five or NCAA's and we will prove who is the better team at seasons end. Our teams actions then will determine who is best, not our words.
  18. I think the gophers played very tough this weekend. This is the first time in a long time I can remember us getting outshot for two games in a row. On Saturday it looked like we were already happy that we had won the night before and the fact that we had already earned at least a split. I also think that a loss to a tough team might just help bring us back down to earth, so we can start a new mean streak at home against Denver. Hopefully the team takes this loss better than some of the Sioux fans I am reading about. This isn't the end of the world and we need to move on. There aren't any excuses for the outcome and many things that happen in a game determine the outcome. I don't agree with everybody that is putting the blame on referees. It isn't solely their fault, though sometimes they make it a tough go. A good team will not use these excuses but rather fight their way through tough situations and succeed somehow as we have done thus far. As some others have said, it is very good to see that our goaltending gave us a chance both nights, hats off to Brandt and Parise who made some spectacular saves. We need to play a little more disciplined still, but I really like our composure. There is no need to panic, we split with a good team that worked very hard both nights. We needed a little swift kick in the behind from the gophers to keep us focused and ready for anything. I just feel bad for the Pioneers who come to town next weekend for we are going to take out our frustrations on them and swiftly kick them in the behind Friday and Saturday!

  20. Here is the WCHA preview posted every Friday morning on USCHO.com, in case some of you didn't know about it. Personally, I think Milewski does a good job but PCM would do better, then we would have plenty of Sioux coverage each weekend! http://www.uscho.com/m/wc/?data=preview

  22. So if we've grown to hate the gophers and Woog's comments, we should throw dead gophers and cats on the ice now? It sounds like other U of M status wanabe teams such as Mankato are starting to copy our tradition of the gophers. It must be tougher at the new arena to do this as I haven't heard of it happening yet. Or perhaps it is too sad to see a dead animal of any sorts on the ice in ND, which is probably highly unlikely with the great hunting and fishing. I am really upset right now because I had somebody guarantee me tickets a month ago and now it appears they aren't going to come through for me.
  23. Star Tribune brief write-up on the Parise boys (1-22-04) I tried copying the link, but when you do this it says you need to have a login and password. The best way to find this then is by just going to www.startribune.com and finding the story.
