  1. But Mariucci and other Gopher fans would prefer to see Big 10 hockey expansion. Can you imagine the intensity of a Minnesota/Rutgers college hockey game on a Tuesday night in New Brunswick? Or an Ohio State/Indiana hockey battle royale in Columbus on a Thursday? Maryland/Michigan State? There is NO WAY 70-some years of North Dakota/Minnesota could replicate potential future Big 10 rivalries like that!
  2. Well, enjoy Big 10 hockey now. Hopefully it is as fun as a watered-down football and basketball conference once Rutgers and Maryland join the party.
  3. AA was added by agreement between the CCHA and WCHA. Each league had to take one of the Alaska schools. You Minnesota homers can't have it both ways. On one hand, it's "pat pat my back, we have more D1 schools than anyone...more kids in the state playing hockey...North Star Challenge Cup...great tradition in the entire state..." and on the other hand its "Bemidji and Mankato suck and don't even deserve to be playing schools the calibre of the Gophers...St Cloud is terrible...watered-down league...UMD can't hold a candle to the Gopher program..". Which way do you want it?
  4. The 2005 Frozen Four in Columbus was a hoot. Every Ohio State fan I saw walking around campus had absolutely NO IDEA that the NCAA Frozen Four was being played that weekend. Several I talked to thought fans were in town to see the Buckeye spring football practice. Hockey fever in Big 10 Country.
  5. I coach 10 and 11 year old baseball kids in fall league (August-October). Each year, I deal with kids who are playing football and baseball for all three months and when October rolls around, most are playing football four days a week, have baseball practice once a week plus games on Sunday afternoons, and then basketball clinics on Sunday nights after baseball. It's insanity.
  6. Towner Cardinals? Didn't they make an appearance in the state tournament in the 1980's somewhere?
  7. I'd rather serve time in a Soviet prison-camp as opposed to enroll in a dance class.
  8. I'll spot you the fact that I was wiped out from a late-night on Wednesday night. Dead crowd...dim lights in the Kohl Center...neutral zone trap...it was the perfect storm...zzzzzz....
  9. Wasn't it 2005 or 2006 when Alaska-Anchorage made the Final Five for the first time ever? I know UND defeated them in the semi-finals and their goalie was totally robbed of all-tournament team honors. Pretty sure it was the Blake Wheeler year when Minnesota won the title. It was awesome watching A-A take the ice for the Thursday game...standing ovation from all the fans in attendance as the Seawolves were welcomed to the Final Five for the first time. That was pretty cool. You couldn't help but cheer for them. But I'm sure the Big 10 Hockey Tournament will have memories just as good as that one...
  10. The 1986-87 WCHA consisted of this: North Dakota Minnesota Denver Wisconsin Northern Michigan Colorado College Michigan Tech Minnesota Duluth North Dakota and Minnesota were the only teams above .500 in the league that year. And you're complaining about a watered-down league AFTER that?
  11. Yea, I'm sure that Thursday night Gopher/Wisconsin game was a ratings bonanza for the Big Ten Network. I watched about 15 minutes of the first period...and almost dozed off. Literally.
  12. Got your Big 10 Hockey Conference Tournament tickets yet, Dave?
  13. I thought this was pretty cool... http://espn.go.com/sportsnation/story/_/id/9561234/uni-watch-power-rankings-rates-nfl-mlb-nba-nhl-uniforms-1-122
  14. Has anyone seen a nice TV schedule for men's hockey?
  15. So says pro-Pittsburgh anti-Flyer fan DaveK. Not surprised at all by this comment.
  16. For a buck or two more (or maybe three or four) per shirt, we can up the shirt quality and get Gildan shirts. Gildans are good quality shirts - I have lots of them.
  17. I've been waiting...for a girl like u...(here's where I throw up in my mouth a little)...
  18. Greg Trebil left the Bantam A program at Jefferson and took the head coaching job at Holy Angels Academy in 1996. He and Tom Saterdalen (then Jefferson's head varsity coach) had a HUGE falling-out over four of Trebil's Bantam A players then heading over to AHA for the start of their run of glory on the high school team. Trebil's last season of '11-'12 was a train wreck. The Stars that season lost to Breck by an 8-2 score, Burnsville by a 15-3 mark, and Benilde-St Margaret's (the new "it" school in Minnesota) by a 15-2 tally. They also lost to New Prague for the first time in I believe 20 years. Ouch.
  19. I don't know if it changes...I think Kennedy's varsity team is still a two-line ONLY team because they can only get about 14 kids to go out for hockey. Jefferson's program has been in a steady decline for about 10 years now.
  20. I forgot to post this last week: Bloomington Kennedy HS boys defeated Jefferson last week 2-1...their first victory over their cross-town rival in FOURTEEN YEARS! The king is dead! The king is dead!
  21. July 17th. The down-side is Target Center, but I'll take what I can get. I've seen Styx five times since 2006...and have yet to be disappointed in their show. MN State Fair (2 times), Target Center, St Paul's Midway Stadium, and Treasure Island.
  22. Foreigner and Styx coming to the Target Center in July. Yea baby!
