  1. It's a tough debate on whether joining a quote "FBS" conference is advantageous.

    • If the FCS level completely loses it's ability to schedule games vs. P5 or G5 teams, then it becomes more of a priority.
    • If you just move to a watered down FBS WAC and play the same teams, is it really worth spending and extra $4 mil for no playoffs and playing the same teams?
    • If the Top level of football expanded to a 12 team playoff with all conferences having an avenue to the playoff, then I'm listening.  i.e . . . 4 Top Conf champs, 5 At Large Bids, 3 Play-in games from lower conferences.  Just playing a conf championship game doesn't interest me, some playoff is needed.  No access, why spend more?
    • Is there a split coming with P5/G5?  Why, the P5 is having their cake and eating it too.   The G5 gets games vs the P5, but that's about it.  The are locked out of the playoffs save a 2nd tier bowl for 1 team.  What the draw?   FCS move ups are not tying to be Ohio State, so there needs to be an acceptable scholarship level below the 85 top.
    • If FBS splits scholarship at 85 for the top, 70 for the middle, and 50 for low end, Yes, then you move to the 2nd Tier.  Not a lot of incentive to move to 85 for an FCS team.   If your at 85 and at the top, why?  You won't be top 25, you won't have access, you are not Ohio State.  (neither is most of the 120 teams in FBS)

And you do realize to use leverage you need a fulcrum.

USD's fulcrum was the league's willingness to be at 10 teams (but not 11).

Said fulcrum was handed to usd by und.   Some would say usd gave you the rope-a-dope.  Hope they at least sent you a fruit basket.

Not moving goalposts, just talking about 1990's playoffs and championship records.

we asked for 4-5 years and were told to pound sand.  I am sure there are still discussions but we are in the Big Sky because the Summit/MVFC said no to UND over and over and over again.

Oh really?  I remember und planning a summit visit, then canceling.

So Big Sky exit fees and Slummit and MVFC entrance fees will be paid HOW?  The Big Sky has a big exit fee if the school leaves without much notice.

On the other hand, swapping the WAC for the Big Sky will cost nothing.

So, you are going to join the WAC and fbs football, so you can add another 4mil to your budget?  Those exit/entry fee will be less than joining fbs, which will require  adding women's sports.

I said when the first cuts were made that it wasn't enough.

Has anyone heard how the fundsraising for men's golf is going or is this the answer to that question also?

I'm thinking M/W S&D should be concerned. I'm thinking non-core Big Sky sports should be concerned.

As far as "conference alignment" unless there is an offer from the MVFC plus Summit there is nothing to talk about .... Unless there is something wild, radical, and new to talk about.

They won't add you unless you ask to be added.  They won't offer you unless you ask for an offer.  That ball is in your court.

Deadspin.com has a new NDSU article today, calling Bresciani's pomposity breathtaking.  That goes for NDSU fans too, as their pomposity knows no limits.

Coming from the most pompous and arrogant poster on any board that I have every read, your assertion above is pretty humorous.   Your content here would quickly draw a written apology from DB or Rob Port had they penned anything close to it.  If that weren't enough, you've even tried to envoke Devine support for your drivel during brief moments of conscious awareness.

Port meet kettle, is all I have to say.

Yet how many bandwagon fans have you gained after the last 6 years? 100% more 50%? Once the playoff success goes away will you retain those fans? I see not. A majority of the people in the state want this game every year just like it used to be and just like it should be.

If both school were FBS with a 12 game schedule it would be much easier.  With an 11 game sch, not so much.  Just the way it is.

He got caught not being honest.  Whatever the medias reason for looking, they found exactly what everyone knew was going to be there.   No one else's fault but NDSUs leadership.

Brescani provided a narrative to explain the poor decision that was made, and to correct it.   It's similar to the narrative that you get from CEO's and HR folks in corporate America on a daily basis, except we don't have access to their email and text messages.  Should someone get all the detail on Ports driving record and DUI and publish the detail on his actions?  As a university system reporter, he should probably be subject to open records on his worst moments.

Lying to the press and throwing your AD under the bus for a decision you agreed with aren't good progress towards improving "communication and teamwork".

Also laugh at FU fans who feel Port is on a witch hunt.  He really didn't even have to work for this story as it pretty much wrote itself.

The truth is they thought they were putting right policy actions in place, but they were wrong and corrected it within 3 days.   No committees, polls or taxpayer dollars affected.  What he knew or didn't know should not be if consequence, unless you are on a witch hunt.  Thanks God they don't goto the texts for the leaders in corporate America on a daily basis, when poor initial decision are made and corrected.  Pretty stupid situation.

Are you serious, that's all you took from the article?  Nothing about DB lying to everyone on purpose...see that part?

DB basically called you and every NDSU fan "beneath him" and not worthy of a response.

Starting to think those sheep out on 19th are symbolic.  :silly:

There may have been parts of the media policy that he didn't fully understand.  Who are we to say.  He certainly didn't know what the reaction would be, and fixed it appropriately.

Using an open records law to look at text messages is a chicken !@#$ action of a idiot with a ill advised Vandetta.  The fact that he went to that level is uglier than anything that Brescani might have done.   You can thank God they didnt look at your recent Presidents texts over the years, or the other guy they just forced out for all the conduct with giving raises and taking trips.  Where Ports texts on that guy?  I guess they just pick and choose the school to sttack.  Disgusting chicken !@#$ action.

  12. Brescani and Larson put a poor media policy in place, saw the error and corrected it within 48-72 hours.  I don't really see why anything else should matter.  Brescsni and Larson fixed the policy.   i really don't care about the witch-hunt from the fat bastard.   If you do, I'm happy for you.   What he knew, what he thought . . . Who cares, the policy was correctly fixed.

ESPN and the ACC have announced a new ACC Network.   Now the Big 12 is the only P5 conference without a cable network, excepting Texas's Longhorn Network.   The Big 12 originally wanted Clemson and Florida St, but the ACC teams signing all Grant of Rights for all schools prevented that for a decade, and now the new ACC network will make the Big12 the slum lord among P5 conferences, excepting the Longhorns of course.

Every P5 league having a network begins to water down these networks and create commoditization.  The B1G used to have a special thing, now almost everyone does.  At some point these networks will begin to lose their value. Ho-hum, the ACC has a network, another channel I won't pay extra for.

Lol what? A school who wants to be FBS is worried about the Missouri Valley teams beating them for a few years??

    What school? Wichita State specifically.

Wichita State fans have had their noses up in the air for a lot of years about mvfc football.  They would avoid mvfc football at all costs, maintaining their perception that mvfc football is beneath them.   Getting kicked around in the mvfc (and trust me, they would get kicked around for 5 years at least) would not stroke their egos very well.   They'd be playing GaState and UTSA type schedules with lots of naia/dii/diii/low fcs  type comp for their first 2-3 years.   They might pick a game vs MO State or IN State, but they would not play UNI, IL State of an of the better teams.

UND is much more capable of an FBS move than Coastal.

UND hockey will end up affiliated with PAC12 teams.

What are you waiting for then?  If joining today's FBS level provides a boost to self confidence to the alumni and will get them to buy tix, then by all means join up if you can find a conference home.    Being a the bottom of today's FBS or being at the top of the FCS is pretty much the same football being played.

Still no word from any of the bizon trolls where Wichita State is going to find an FBS home.

WSU hates the idea of MVFC.  Troll minds can't wrap around that concept.

Wichita would get their Asses kicked in the Mvfc for a lot of years.  Yes, they hate the idea of Mvfc football.  As an FBS startup, they could play a weak schedule and avoid the Mvfc.  Their basketball would eventually get them in the MW, AAC or CUSA.  Und's hockey and basketball profile could get you in the WAC or the NSIC.

  19. 7 hours ago, SiouxVolley said:

Since bizon trolls are such all-knowing of everything FCS, why does Wichita St hate the idea of the MVFC?  That has never been answered here even though even Kolpack has written about it.

Why does the Wichita St President want FBS and seems likely they will get a football only invite?  Which conference will give them that invite?  Those questions have never been answered by trolls.

Wichita St is a lot like UND.  Basketball school vs hockey school.  Similar enrollments.  Both emphasize aerospace, business, and entreprenship.  Why would Wichita St be after FBS, when they could be in the penultimate FCS conference, but clearly reject  it.?

Wichita obviously sees itself as nationally relevant in Basketball, and also wants its football to be as nationally relevant as possible.  At this point they are nieve enough to think they could be top 25 in FBS football.  If Wichita would stoop to the level of WAC sports, it would be for a cup of coffee until they moved to the MW, AAC, or CUSA.

Hey if UND wants to be FBS, go for it, anyone can do it.Coastal just did it, anyone can.  What are you waiting for?  Your hockey profile will be a huge boost . . . Er money drain.

Big 12 Commish Bob Bowlsby was quoted in the Des Moines Register that an NCAA split is likely coming.  Possibly a school would have to be FBS plus a few higher basketball conferences like the Big East, A10, WCC, and MVC.  Approximately half the DI school would get demoted.

That is the biggest reason that UND should move up.

What's the difference whether you move up and are demoted from the top level, or whether you are FCS and not part of top level?  Either way you will be able to move to tier II.  It doesn't matter if you move up or not, you won't be part of tier I.

In Tier I, a champion has always been crowned, yes.   But there is 1 FBS champion, not 2.   Sorry, you haven't a clue.

The Sam Houston St - UND series announced Friday is interesting to say the least.  2018 is when an FBS transition will begin IMHO.  Sam Houston State stadium hold 14,000, but temporary bleachers in one end zone can be installed to make it more than 15 k.  SHSU has hosted games in Houston's Reliant Stadium that drew 26 k.  Also. Sam Houston and Lamar had flirted with the WAC back in 2011 to go FBS.  NMSU and a Wichita State FBS team need a Texas presence.  Could Sam Houston St be a part of the future FBS WAC?  Lamar too?  Missouri St fb could leave the MVFC and join the WAC for football only, as it wouldn't want Wichita St to get ahead, as those two are basically geographic twins.  Those two want FBS as they would move in tandem later to CUSA or the American, but need an FBS invite from someone without ruining their basketball.

So perhaps the future FBS WAC will be even bigger than I imagined, with Texas schools for NMSU and Wichita State's benefit. Sam Houston St and Lamar have both been rebuffed by the Sun Belt as FBS teams, but haven't made much noise about FBS in the last couple years.  In Texas, a school almost has to be FBS for its football to be taken seriously.

Sam Houston St and UND may have just signed a non conference series as the conference  schedule doesn't have them playing.

Interesting that Bresciani said that he doesn't envision an FBS move now and the NDSU is in the Tier II sweet spot.  Personally think FCS is in Tier III, and G5 or soon to be G6 is in Tier II, but I'm just a lowly poster.

I'm trying to remember who won the Tier II National Champioship last year, but I can't remember?

Tier I was Alabama, and Tier III was NDSU, but I can't remember the Tier II champion.  Does anyone remember?
