About 3 weeks away from the college game getting started.  I have many questions

Does Clemson and wunderkid Trevor Lawrence go back-to-back?

Does Saban and Tua get their revenge?  Can anybody challenge the Tide in the SEC?

This a put-up or shut-up year for Jim H and Michigan?

Does Oklahoma make it 3 for 3 in Heisman winning QBs?

Does Fleck and the Gophers break through in Year 3?

    Who is a potential sleeper?

Does Les Miles pull a miracle and make Kansas relevant again?

How does KSU do in year 1 post Bill Snyder?

Does the Pac-12 and Big 10 actually get in the playoff this year?

Norte Dame.... can they get back?

    Thoughts?

Do the bison go 8 for 9?

The simplest solution is to invite back Chicago St.  They have the correct sports and would be a good travel partner for Western Illinois.  But the Presidents will never go for them.

Chi St and WIU will be forced down to DII rather soon ( years).

Terrible idea, Chicago State.   Just secure necessary waiver until Augustana is on board.

You are probably right but nobody ever calls the guy on his habit of calling names and the moderators never intervene so I guess I got the impression the community approved of the behavior.  BV banned Lakes. That gave the impression the community did not support his behavior.

He’s a bully, that’s all.  Even the moderators don’t want to Challenge this guy cause he’s always on the edge of stability it would seem.  If you question his ideas, bam personal attack.  Just part of it if you respond to the guy.

The Summit should play 3d chess, and find a way to use football as a wedge to break apart the MVFC (public/private) within the next 10 - 20 years.  The MVC isn't what it used to be, and it will likely be just another one bid basketball league going forward.

If the Summit starts football, that will leave the MVC with 5 scholarship football schools and Youngstown, and who knows if Youngstown would stick around.  That will drive the MVC to invite 2-3 teams to the MVC, which in turn might come from the Summit.   That could result in destabilizing the Summit.

If the desire is 2 weaker football conference, and a destabilized Summit League, yes by all means start Summit football.  Bad idea for the Lesgue.

  5. I have no desire to see Summit football, not sure why Hawk fans want that.  Would prefer to remain connected to the MVC football schools.

also, I have no desire to form a conference with MT, MT St, Idaho, etc.   if I was going to join a western conf, I’d only do it for the MWC.

This board reads like und should have just stayed in the Big Sky.

I sort of agree. If UND does not want to commit to be a top-level FCS school in all sports, lets just become UMN-D again and save everyone the time and money.

FCS is a football only designation.  Schools are not FCS, football is.   Schools are DI, DII, DIII.

That was my point.  Presbyterian can’t keep FCS scholarship fb with a $100 million endowment.  High Point doesn’t even attempt non-scholarship DI fb with a $50 million endowment.

CSP could possibly make it at DI if it dropped fb, but the Summit would be digging deep worse than the Big South

CSP, not remotely interested regardless of the sports they keep/drop.   UST, yes interested.

St Thomas would be a short timer in the Summit if it ever happens.  UST would soon get an invite from the MVC almost regardless of how they perform.  The MVC would take them just because of the MSP market as they did for Loyola because of the Chi market.  The Big East would be their maximum, and could be obtained through success.  The Twin Cities market ensures that.  If Creighton can reach the Big East, almost assuredly UST can.

The MIAC is already a much more prestigious league than the Summit in academics and snobbery..  Their goal and vision has to be more than the Summit.

The Horizon would want them too, so UST may choose them over the Summit.  But in either league they would be a short timer for only the transition plus a few short years as the MVC has so much better payouts and respect.

Would be interesting how them accommodate the mbb, hockey and other programs.  Building or enpanding arenas and playing in the nearby Alliance Soccer field for a likely new sport like lacrosse.

UST is the rich kid that has almost all doors open to them because of where they sit.

If the Summit wanted a MSP school long term, they should offer Concordia-St Paul, which is a relatively poor endowment school (only $40 mill) and not nearly as respected academically (not saying its bad) but lower than  Vaipo.  CSP would need a sugar daddy to come forward.

CSP is already out-kicking their coverage as a DII member.  No way they could fund a DI Summit move.

NCAA says the play in game is part of the tournament but I just filled out the ESPN Tournament Challenge there they start with the field of 64 for filling out the brackets. They are not using the four play in games as part of the Tournament. If that is the case most people are going to treat the teams in play in games same way as they not part of the bracket. I think its a shame that they are putting our conference into playoff game it just diminishes the conference on national scene. Tv wanted to have conference tournaments but when they get upset then they want to move conference tournament champion to a play in game. These mid major conferences only get one selection at least let them have there day in the Tournament. Like I say mid majors have about zero chance to get into final 16 let alone even final four the last true mid major school to get into final four was Indiana State when they had Larry Bird. I will here about other mid major programs but some them are more closely related to big schools or are independent school that plays big  time schedule. I find it so interesting its fine that we have our own separate division in football but not basketball. I guess I will never get appeal of playing with large schools when you know you have zero chance of winning.

Loyola last year, Butler with a final four run.   Lots of sweet 16s.   Actually it happens with some regularity.

OU was an unathletic team that relied on the jump shot. Most prognosticators had them circled as an upset candidate before the brackets came out. NDSU gets the credit for beating them though...especially after not closing them out in regulation as they probably should have. Most of the time the underdog who lets the favorite come back late in a game ends up folding and NDSU regrouped and took them out. Very impressive win.

Buddy Hield, Isaiah Cousins, Spangler . . . Not athletic?  You have no clue what you are talking about.  That was by far the best bison team in recent history.  Bjorklund, Braun, Wright, Brown, LA and some good backup bigs.   Good team, good win . . . Not a fluke.  That team would rough up 2019 team.

  11. 5 hours ago, SIOUXFAN97 said:

yes...it should.  As a conference you want your best team in the tournament to win games, win money, and increase  the profile of your conference.

Fair?  You win the regular season conference title you get to reward your team, school, and town with a nice weekend tourney.  Didn't know Brookings was the end of the road...if so, why are we losing so many recruits to them them?

Nothing wrong with Brookings as long as they are not hosting a conference tournament in that town.

the goal of the post season tournament should be to get your best team in to the ncaa's...that team hosting the tournament on campus in front of a partisan crowd....packed to the rafters is what the summit should go to.

don't feel too sorry for sdsu bc it is basically a home game for them in terms of fans but this tourney should have been in brookings.

No it shouldn’t.  If that was the goal, you wouldn’t even have a tournament. Sdsu is the best team, but the tournament is used to choose your representative.

The goal is to have a fair/equitable tournament for all teams to generate fan interest, money, and crown a champion.

    what's wrong with Frost?

Dining, logistics, hotel rooms.  Everything bad, including a small arena.  If you could sell 12k tickets, why have it in a 5k arena?

nothing wrong with Frost, but it’s not the premier Center on tv.  Hosting on campus, yuck.  Do you see the NEC arena?  Small time.

after seeing a lot of empy seats at the denny and even tho it's pretty much a home game for sdsu i think it's dumb not have the #1 seed host on campus...the whole point of the post season tournament is to get the best team to represent your confernece at the NCAA's...neither ndac or omaha have much of chance of winning a game...sdsu (if daum shows up) could pull off a shocker...or two and make some $$ for the summit (and it's conference members)

Totally disagree, but I guess we are both entitled to our opinions.   PFW or Western hosting, entirely possible under your scenario would be utter disasters.  Think about that possibility.  On campus in Brookings?  Not great either.

That wouldn't be definitive. A teammate could only report what they observed.

Robbins, NDSU, and the NCAA knows what the substance in question is. They have the test report data.

Yes, and they are legally required to keep that confidential.  At least NDSU and ncaa are.

Well someone is ticked, obviously! Oh to have so much wealth to be able to say that!! Sounds like this has been brewing since last year. Time will tell.

Engelstad family member was not calling for firing, when first asked, but then said yes when pressed.  Clearly states that they are not going to do business with Kennedy.

So nothing came of any of this?

    no ncaa investigation?

no additional internal investigation by su??

    is anybody surprised?

Hmmm, same outcome as Clemson.  Oh, I guess NDSUs situation and reaction is normal.  Nothing to see here

It would much easier to read if you broke it up into paragraphs.

There’s no advantage, it’s a Sioux Volley power trip to one up NDSU, so logic be gone.

Unless you are an FBS team in an established league, you won’t be able to bring in good competition and make the situation viable.  (MWC, MAC)

Going FBS in a new league would just be more expensive football, nothing else.  Would be a disaster.

Jones still can’t beat Omaha since they moved up. And people are laughing at Augusta potentially joining the SL? We can’t beat old NCC foes.

The NCC is long gone.  The fact that you think you should win in the Summit because you did in the NCC  shows your flawed logic.

And no one is laughing at Augustana.  They’ll spend 3 million on BB in DI without FB and Hockey to feed.

I think most of us see this as an opportunity for the Bison to fall from graces. Something has to knock them off the top of the mountain and if it is because of their own undoing the. We will take it. I rather our football team rise to that level, but no team in the FCS has been able to do that consistently out side of one year (James Madison). We are tired of the Bison and all their good luck which is sometimes undeserving.

we smell blood in the water and we will attack

You better attack real hard with your keyboard, rather than relying on your team to get it done.  It’s your only shot, so you better spin this story really good.
