It is an interesting dynamic that on the UND hockey team, anytime a solid/star player leaves early to better himself he is still revered.......while on the UND basketball team the player that leaves early to attempt the same thing is ridiculed.

Would your hockey guy be revered if he left early to play college hockey at say . . . Minnesota.   See the difference?

Right, but by leaving out that information the reader would assume that this is only a UND problem when in fact it is a nationwide problem.  I get the exclusive factor of having no female head coaches is the hook of the article.  But this problem is an issue across the country, including the other 3 Dakota schools.  Is Matt Larsen aware of the lack of female coaches at NDSU?

If UND had 2 female coaches, no article is written. 0 problem, 2 not a problem.

    Rule #1

Never trust a Fargo or Sioux Falls journalist, as they spout what the XDSU’s want everyone to hear, not the truth.  Chapman was a master of this deception, and it continued with Bresciani.  The story was always how NDSU barely got in when the MVFC went to nine, because the eastern MVFC teams didn’t want to pay for a flight and SDSU insisted upon it or they wouldn’t join either.  Well, guess what, with only seven conference games then, many MVFC schools had to fly anyway to fill out their schedule regardless if NDSU was out or in.

But now, lo and behold, there isnt any anger or angst coming from the MVFC when UND got in.  Imagine that?  Fargo sportswriters were just part of an NDSU propaganda machine designed to keep UND (and USD) out.  SDSU relented earlier because it knew if the Big Sky got USD, the Summit would have fallen apart.  NDSU didn’t want UND to have any sort of recruiting angle or play ND games, because they wanted to own ND football and had a morbid fear of UND.

The NDBoHE doesn’t want people to know how NDSU leadership deceived even them, so they keep a lid on the story by not revealing it.

Straight From the SiouxVolley propaganda machine.

And your point?  It doesn't matter what people thought at the time, in hindsight, he had some major miss-steps when it came to the D1 decision, etc.

My point, don’t act like RT was in the 1%, he was in the 99%.  Heck it was 50/50 down south with the water already going over the bridge.

Roger Thomas?   Geez Louise, he was as bad you could get.    His hatred for NDSU pretty much screwed UND over for years.    I'm sure the only reason he wouldn't push for us to move up was he wanted NDSU to fall flat on their faces, and ending the games with them hurt us far more than it did them.   We should have pulled the trigger and moved up the day after the Bison did.   In fact, we should have moved up the day before they did and been the leader for once.  RT set us back 10 years.

Monday morning QB’ing right there.  Roger had almost unanimous support from admin, fans, media, etc, etc.  Go read what your media had to say in 2003.  Rogers position was strongly support by the loud voice of, we are already DI.

I disagree. With the exception of the NCHC, which I cant say for sure, Faison was FORCED to do most everything else. Kennedy and Schafer were the ones doing his job for him. Kennedy specifically gave directives on the Summit/MVFC and the budget cuts, which Faison should have proactively been in front of on his own.

Football alums were told by Faison that the Summit/MVFC had no interest in having UND in their conference. That was all Kennedy's doing. Kennedy arrives on campus and magically the tone changes within the next 6-9 months for the Summit/MVFC? He was a hindrance more than anything regarding the conference move.

His hyper-delegation of duties and responsibilities were another big problem. Repeatedly falling asleep in important administrative meetings was another. Faison fell short in so many areas and basically just coasted when he was allowed to.  It's no coicidence that Faison was forced out when he was. Kennedy had seen and had enough in a very short time period.

Und quite frankly could have gained Summit/MVFC membership if they had so desired at any point after 2010.  It was not pursued due to Faison Butt hurt with the initial Summit negotiations.  Und was in a leverage position the whole time, go figure.

When WV and Rutgers left the Big East, the football contract value went way down.  Boise St and San Diego St, which would have had to pay the Big West routinely for membership, bought out their Big West and Big East fb only contracts and hightailed it back to the MWC

The MW could strengthen itself by re-adding BYU, but there’s a lot of BYU hate and no ones in a hurry on either side of that one.

    Top 4?

so you thinks the FCS playoffs should have been . . .

    ndsu2 vs jsu3

    jmu1 vs UCA4

End of story, the other 20 teams check in their gear? thats what you think a playoff should be?

What “season” is this ruining?  The playoff isn’t a season, it’s game or two.  It’s Clemson vs Alabama every year.  Oh the drama in that.  This would include top teams and all champions.

So you advocate that the FCS playoff is . . .

    JMU vs Central Arkansas

    NDSU vs. Jacksonville St

    Winners decide it!

The current FCS playoff is gross and ruins FCS football?  That’s your opinion?

    Solution:

8 team playoff. 5 autobids from the P5 conferences and 3 at large bids. Teams like Ohio St get rewarded for winning their conference Championship game in a P5 conference and teams like Alabama get rewarded for having a great season but failed to win their conference. Plus fans get 4 more real college football playoff games. Everybody wins!!

See 12 Team Playoff.  This 8 Team format sucks.  No diversity

  13. 12 Team Playoff:  Here’s my Bracket in 2017

    Conf Champ/Rank

    ACC Clemson 1

    B12 OK 2

    SEC Georgia 3

    B10 Ohio St 5

    P12 USC 8

    AAC UCF 10

    MW Boise 25

    MAC Toledo 28

    CUSA FAU 31

    SB Troy 35

    Washington 12 (out)

    TCU 13 (out)

    ND 14 (Out)

Play-In Round 3Games: (No Shares) Loser not in Playoff, could goto Bowl Game. Winner in Playoff Bracket and earns 1 Share.

For 10 seed  Troy 35 vs UCF 10

For 11 seed: FAU 31 vs Miami 11

For 12 seed: Toledo 28 vs Boise 25

Play-In: At home of Higher Ranked Team

    1st Round Playoff / 2nd Round Matchup

    Penn St 9 vs USC 8  / Clemson 1

12 Seed Above vs Ohio St 5 / Alabama 4

    11 Seed Above vs Wisconsin 6 / Georgia 3

    10 Seed Above vs Auburn 7 / Oklahoma 2

1st Round Games - Home of Higher Ranked Team

2nd Round Games - Bowl Sites

    3rd Round - Final 4 Site

    Championship Site

    Financial Shares:  awarded to Conferences

    Spots 1-12:  1 Share each (12 Shares)

1 Share awarded for each win (11 Shares)

    Total Playoff Shares = 23

    Benefits:

Each FBS conference has an Avenue to the Champioship via Play-In Games. Bottom 6 Teams Of 15 Play-In.

128 teams competing for a national championship, not 4.

This Playoff would generate huge mo

Top 4 Ranked Teams only need to win 3 games to be Champion. Get Bye to 2nd Round.

Revenue can be earned by Smaller Conferences.  Distributes outside P5. At least 2 G5 Conferences will earn $ shares each year. Creates competition.

Uses same Committee Ranking system in place today.

Fyi: I would eliminate Conf Championship Games, just play 12 game schedule to select Champs.

Guess we've located at least one spot where NDSU is cutting funds. Their lame duck volleyball coach, who was already told her contract won't be renewed after this coming season, is leaving to take the head coaching job with Southern Illinois of the MVC. It looks like SIU has consistently had been in the upper half of the conference and had an RPI of 71 this past season, so they are definitely no bottom dweller.

Instead of doing a national search now, they are waiting until the end of next season and choosing to put the interim tag on a current assistant coach who's resume includes 2 year's on NDSU's bench and 2 years coaching Fargo high schools (though she is a successful former NDSU player).

The existing coach was thankfully not renewed.  Never accomplishing must of anything in her tenure.  She can be thankful she was not term'ed 2-3 years ago.   As for the interim coach . . . It's Lopez who played for our most successful coach/team ever.  If you had any knowledge of history, you wouldn't question that move.  If she is not able to take the ball and run, then open it up . . . I totally agree with the move.

Clearly you don't understand the situation.  I'm not surprised.

Doesn't the NCAA test a number of players randomly from each squad after an FCS playoff game?

Do the teams also do testing outside of what the NCAA does for playoff competition?   Seem like a lot of this stuff is uncovered at playoff time in general at the FCS level.

If IPFW and WIU bail look for UND, NDSU, USD, SDSU to try to convince UM, MSU, ID and IDS to join. The Summit could sponsor FB and with the new precedent set by Liberty's conference invite waiver the possibility of FBS would be very real. If that happened and NMSU joined it would be one of the better G5 conferences instantly and a pretty good mid major BB conference too. Not to mention that's 9 impressive academic state schools!

Liberty has a waiver to go FBS.  They do not have a Waiver to start a new FBS conference.   If 8 FCS teams joined NMSU in the WAC and declared an FBS move, it would be a big IF on whether an FBS WAC would be allowed or not.

Should we beg PU-FW to stay once they get their new name?

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that IPFW is gone.  Just a matter of 1 day or 1 years, but they gone.

Realignment happens one move at a time IUPUI leaves now it's the next move. Northern Colorado works for really everyone and doesn't hold back any future moves.Ideally a conference with six good travel partners that bring something to the table is ideal. UNC-Denver, Dakota four, Montana's, EWU-Idaho, UNO-Northern Iowa. Northern Iowa would have to be the last pick up as this conference would be superior to the MVC.

Would UNC seriously consider a move to the Summit, or is that wishful thinking?  They'd need a football invite too.

If they came over, that would be great IMO. If they don't completely move, could their baseball be louered into the Summit?

    http://www.spokesman.com/stories/2017/may/12/ewu-initiates-process-to-examine-fundraising-prosp/

So why is EWU so concerned about keeping up with the Montanas in the facilities race if everything will stay status quo, as numerous trolls and posters have said?  But in the very slight chance that those schools are moving to the Slummit and FBS, then is a very big deal for EWU.  EWU has been fundraising for some time for an alternative stadium or bigger Roos, but just hasn't made headway.

Why do you continue to use Summit and FBS in the same sentence?  If a move up would occur for football for NDSU, it would involve some new term, not FBS, and it would be something other than the Summit.  You are lost in the Forrest.

This goes back a ways, but my old school, the Ellendale Cardinals, prevented Kenmare from getting a three-peat by beating them 63-49 in the championship game of the 1967 State Tournament. They ran the table that season, going 28-0. I had the privilege of playing with those guys up until two years prior.

From my understanding is Bemidji St., St. Cloud, and Duluth have to have a women's D1 team because they have a men's D1 team.

If any of the DII schools in MN actually went DI (not just in the hockies) they would face massive athletic restructuring and budget issues.  They would need to make major changes ala Omaha.  Unds changes from 21 to 16 serve to reinforce this fact.
