I totally disagree with "The Commodore." Yes, he was a force. Yes, he took a LOT of penalties... many at stupid times. However, in no way would I consider Mike cheap. He merely finished plays that were heads up in a way that we, as Sioux fans, were not used to nor had seen finished in a number of years. I remember a game where Jason Blake was sat (for being a whiny butt) and we were on the road (either away at CC or DU) and Mike was playing behind our own net when he took a glove to the face which was uncalled for. Instead of letting it go - and while the player was looking at him (and even expecting it?) - Mike grabbed him by the neck and pinned him up about 3 feet higher on the boards and threw him to the ice and pounced him. I think he got a 2 and 2 minor, but Deano pulled him for it. That was vintage Mike. Not cheap. Not from behind. Just over the top and in your face. Man I miss that guy.

I look at it like this... You are down and it is a "must win" for DU and I "we really need to win" for UND. Hak has the choice and it goes like this: 1) pull the goalie and try and tie it 2) pull the goalie and try and win it Either way, unless something comes down to a tie braker for total goals, it was a non-call call for Hak. Since the odds of it coming down to total goals is nil, he probably make the right call. (DISCLAIMER: Please be advised that this does not constitute legal advice from my firm. Mother "TUC"er! Can MSU be a TUC with a win over UW?
UNDLAW replied to UNDLAW's topic in Men's Hockey
Only if they can find a way to miss the tournament and/or lose in the first round! Jan Brady University lives on... -
Probably wishing the guys team was in town and they were at Bonzers! (Will I get in trouble for saying that?)

Mother "TUC"er! Can MSU be a TUC with a win over UW?
UNDLAW replied to UNDLAW's topic in Men's Hockey
Man I hate being right! With the 3-2-1 bonus ranking, MSU gets a .04 boost and they are a TUC and 25 after all is said and done. That, as I thought, may have proved more beneficial than a win or loss at DU tonight. Plus, the WCHA has closed the gap the on CCHA and has flipped some comparisons (as well as some in HEA). All in all, and despite the loss tonight (to a VERY desperate and [choke!] VERY deserving DU team), we make some headway into the National Tournament. What more can you ask for? -
You know, as much as I hate DU, at least I respect them and they respect us (READ: as opposed to the Gophers) and having them play for something has made us: 1) a better team; and 2) .... uhhhh... what was I talking about?
-
Actually, we may even move up with the loss. I will check my numbers after the game, but some other teams may have helped the Sioux tonight. Remember, prior to this weekend (and with all things being equal) playing the numbers would have hoped for a split with DU and a sweep of Tech.

Maybe my favorite moment of the season. Gwoz: "Come on ref. Poor defenseless Puckmybit$h just got wood to his wood... call a penalty or I will make you smell the polish of my new shoes!"
-
Think it was more than that. With the lead, and after last night, and with the win giving them home ice, he wasn't just baiting him, it was a "we won" now lets have at it type of thing. We will probably end up with a PP on this if the replay and corresponding calls match up.
-
HERE WE GO!!! Think we can afford to be minus players against Tech?
-
It seems that although the "turn" helps, the calls have been stemming on "how far" from the boards and whether the checker is letting up or speeding up when the "turn" happens. In any event, the calls tonight were touchy but, technically, correct. I think the first 5 minute major we took should have been a classic "boarding" or even interference given the blatent "turn" prior to the check and the fact that the guy never even went to the ice or left his feet for that matter!

Mother "TUC"er! Can MSU be a TUC with a win over UW?
UNDLAW replied to UNDLAW's topic in Men's Hockey
Yes, but since they are all TUC/RPI teams, I thought it would just be easier to post it in a "Hey, these are the teams rankings as rank of making the tournament." However, and just for you: RPI-RANK-% Denver-14-.5323 Nebraska Omaha-10-.5413 Notre Dame-29-.5015 St. Cloud-20-.5243 Wisconsin-2-.5736 -
Was just looking and saw that MSU is very close to being a TUC prior to tonights game. With a win over UW, they "might" just make it to .500 in the PWR. With that, you can add two more wins to UND's TUC win/comparison table. With two wins over Nebraska-Omaha (4t PWR), over Notre Dame (28t PWR), two over St. Cloud (19t PWR), over Denver (16 PWR) and working on two against Wisconsin (2 PWR), this HAS to help the Sioux if MSU wins again (and now leading 7-3 with Elliot getting the yank!).

I hope my previous post wasn't taken in the wrong light, as I agree. I was only trying to comment on why it has become an issue here. Bina is gold for next year and his injury (although it didn't) could have come from innocent play just as easily as it came from less than par hockey play. That being said, and although I don't blame him for it, I am certainly glad that this UND team is still using it as (seemingly) a form of inspiration as that is one of the most complete hockey games (and at altitude no less) that I have seen UND play in a couple of seasons given the inherent weight of this game. Congrats, Sioux. Bring it home tomorrow!

Watched it again. Made me cry again... am I just a friggin baby or is this one of the coolest off the cuff stories ever. Kinda like the "throw right" story for Notre Dame and Chuck Weis in college football earlier this/last year except no one had to die to get their dream come true?
-
Amen brother. I was just working the numbers earlier today and, other than Bemidji becoming a TUC/Tournament Member, Mankato cracking the rankings is the best thing that could happen for the Sioux besides the Sioux taking care of business themselves.

Not since Christmas. Got two little ones (Skyler, Age 3 and Samantha, Age 1) who keep me in arms all the time. And you? I would say I will see you at the Final 5 (which we WILL make), but I have to have back/neuro surgery on the 9th of March, but will be in GF for the West Regional (which... again... we WILL make) whether it is in a wheel chair or on crutches or with a walker! Shoot me an email at harveyskees@hotmail.com so we can make plans to meet as it has been at least a year or two since we last met (Sensors in Bloomington I would guess?). Take care. Now, back to your regular flaming and banter...

Like I said in other posts. That is just the "bonus" that USCHO uses. If you use 5-3-1 or 6-4-2, look how far up the Sioux jump. Again... YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!
-
No shame in admitting that is made me cry like a baby. Wow. Just makes you think when you see these special people on a daily basis what special talents they may really have that we never have the luxury of seeing due to our own inate bias against them...
-
That was quick! YES!!!!!!
-
Bias and on point. Kudos my brother. Remember, Bina had to watch it... couldn't be in the game for it!
-
This is killing me. The RPI is up to date on USCHO, but the PWR is lagging. This game may have been bigger in the PWR with other results tonight than any of us thought.
-
It was a "normal" play away from the puck that happens 10X a game in any normal hockey game. Just because it happened to "What-the-pauk" doesn't make it any better or worse. Not that it didn't have "meaning" for UND, but don't think it deserves its own scrutiny in a single thread. JMHO.

Still have my "The Antique" button up baseball jersey as well as my "Get off my stool you a$$" T-Shirt. My wife wonders why I keep them. I always tell her "You just don't understand!"
