1) The article was about undergrad admissions only. 2) I do find that intersting and it actually suprisesd me a little. 3) But doesn't get back to my original point to start this thread. The last 15% of applicants accepted at SU (again 85% to 70%) from a mean deviation standpoint have to be lower qualified student from a similar app. pool. 4) The article also shows that the undergrad population total is with 20 students, if my memory serves me correctly. between the 2 schools with compareible average GPAs and ACTs from it's app. pool. NDSU has grown, but don't think they haven't grown without taking students that they probably wouldn't have taken 5-10-20 years ago from a qualification standpoint. You just can't twist the numbers to say they haven't and don't.

Harvard was rated the #1 university in the nation. There they accepted 9%, yes just 9%, of incoming apps. According then to Bison Dan's theory, Harvard gets a lower "class" of student then UND, which gets an even "lower" type student then NDSU. Because the higher % of apps. accepted means you have a greater number of "top" students applying. Ah, the wonderful world of reasoning via Bison Dan? Bottom line, ask any admissions director at any college, the lower your acceptance % means you have a larger, better qualified application pool. You think Bismarck State gets a "higher" qualified student pool then NDSU. No, and you could probably count on two hands the number of applicants they turn away per year.

I'd like to meet you face to face to see what a really stupid person looks like! Nice spin. No, what this probably says is that NDSU, based on the numbers, takes a lower quality of student to reach it's enrollment goals. If UND and NDSU have roughly the same number of incoming students, which I thinks is safe to say, and NDSU accepts 15% more applicants this statistically makes your reasoning invalid. You are a piece of work, Dano! And if you want me to draw you a picture, a simple bell curve statistics graph would be easy for you to understand.

Thought this was interesting. In the fall of 2007, UND accepted 70% of incoming applications. NDSU accepted 85%! My question is everyone here in Fargo is beating their chests that NDSU has a bigger enrollment, but at the sake of accepting a lesser quality student? Proceed...

Fixed your post!

Good points!

Which is why for generation after generation there has been nothing but unaccountabilty and dysfunction on the reservations of this state and thru out the nation. Why change when that cash pipeline keep the dollars flowing?
-
And you know this how? Were you in the meetings with UND and the Higher Ed board? You also probably believe the world is flat and no one is going to make you believe different. Again, for the sake of continuing to show your complete ignorance, you should stay out of these conversations. But you probably got an A+ in your deductive reasoning course at NDSU!

If changing the nicknames takes some of the tax burden off my back because now some NAs are going to feel more empowered and less abused and then decide to take more responsibility for their own lives ...great! But at 5'8", white and 39 years old, I think I have better odds of playing in the NBA than that happening because the Sioux nickname is dropped!
-
Exactly. For some it's easier to point out the zit on someone else and ignore the big wart on their own face.
-
You're a tool!! If you're lucky at best, you're a NDSU grad, but even at that you're too stupid to understand this situation. What university doesn't have their share of "troubled" students. Again I said UND is not without blame in this situation, but as an outsider, you're simplification of this issue shows your ignorance. The tribe's have said first and foremost that the abuse of the nickname/logo is the main reason they want to get rid of it. You think UND is the major abuser of the name and logo? Come with something legit or stay away because you're clueless here.
-
And who would that be? Pull your head out of your ass!! I'm sure the student section at NDSU over the years, with their vulgar t-shirts and chants tarnishing and trashing the Fighting Sioux nickname, had nothing to do with the tribes taking the stand they have! UND is not blameless in this mess, but what other university in the NATION has done more to promote NAs within it's programs over the years?
-
Pay me a living wage NOT to plant corn or wheat and I'd vote for those 3 misfits myself! It is a joke though as you implied!
-
Totally agree. Goetz keeps hitting the "easy" button in hopes this just goes away. And NAs, from "leaders" on down, have demonstrated for generations that they can't even stay out of their own way in any attempt to make progress on any issue!

Then I'll look for mine this week. Thanks.

With that being said, has anyone in the FSC received their season tickets yet?

It is amazing at the potential to recover oil in that region. Our family, although extended, received notification early this summer that an oil company wants to drill on family land in the Parshall area. The road to the land suspected of having oil is being completed as I type and drilling to start in Oct. My grandmother, who is 92, has said for years that she believed oil would be found on the farmland she grew up on before she passed away. Would be a good 93rd B-Day gift for her!

I hear what the last few posters have said--good points but I didn't miss any facts. D1A and D1AA , or whatever you want to call it, are not the same classification as far as football goes. But really it is insignificant though. I see DaveK's point in the fact, and again we are talking about JUST football, that saying SDSU Jacks and OSU Buckeyes are D1 FB programs is true but not completely accurate. A Kia and Mercedes are cars, but not really the same. Semantics I know, but it is interesting to see some of you get your panties in a bundle.
-
Let me give this a shot on DaveK's behalf. IF NDSU plays Wisconsin in basketball, you have 2 D-1 teams playing. If you have the same 2 schools playing in FB, you don't have 2 D-1 teams playing. They are not in the same D-1 classification. That is Davek's point, I believe, and I tend to agree with him. When NDSU, Montana St. and soon UND advertise they are playing D-1 FB that is not entierly correct as they are not like D-1 Wisconsin in FB like they are in basketball. DaveK, I'm with you on this one.

I guess "marginal" is the key term. The teams I stated are in that bottom 60, but you are dealing with decent SEC & PAC-10 teams. They are marginal for their conference but the type of athlete that UCLA and Ole Miss put out is highly superior to what NDSU puts out. I think the W vs. the Gophs last year was great for NDSU as was the win over Central Michigan, but I do think you are giving the FCS a little too much credit even though I do see your point.
-
Really? So (hypothetically) if NDSU has all these teams, UCLA, Wahsington, Arkansas, Navy and Ole Miss, at HOME this year, they would win how many of these games? I say zero with the exception of possibly Washington? These are all teams in the bottom 60 of the FBS.

When did McFeely get a new pen name and take a 2nd job? Pathetic is the one word that comes to mind after reading that trash.

He does work...in polymers and coating. Which would explain why he has so much time on his hands. (See Sports Marketing thread post #66)

Ah yes, this state and country would so much better off without physicans. If only our healthcare system was like that of...(you can fill in the blank you troll). And building farm sheds and making games for PS2 is so noble!
